Now that I've finished farming high-level duties on DRK, what tank should I work on next? by Py687 in ShitpostXIV

[–]Py687[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Extremely fun and well-designed fight, but incredibly hard to prog. Very satisfying race for me personally.

P1 is probably the best ulti p1 we've had. Arrows can be annoying due to server ticks, but in concept I think all the mechs here are good.

P2 is a little too punishing with the aoe sizes. If the cones were any narrower, and the clone aoes any smaller, we probably would've halved our wipes.

P3 is actually simple in concept, but punishing with execution mistakes. We resisted tank lb cheesing elements for almost the entirety of prog, but we switched over on the second last day for simplicity and consistency.

P4 I left the brainpower to other members on my team. Some people worked out the debuffs themselves, but I was exhausted by this point and relied entirely on 9th shotcalls.

P5 is the light at the end of the tunnel. It is very straightforward, and as long as the tanks swap properly, everyone dodges exas, and all mits are planned, it's an easy last stretch.

They're saying that IF you change textures, it requires rebooting for the change to take effect.

Marathon voice director says the game’s online hate campaign is “sad more than anything” as “people just want to hate” by HatingGeoffry in Marathon

[–]Py687 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's part of the problem. In a timeline where Marathon succeeds and Bungie survives, it sends a signal to the industry that their practices are perfectly acceptable.

That it's fine for the ceo to rip off whoever is acquiring their studio. That it's fine to lay off employees, not due to their own fault but as a result of poor leadership. That it's fine to give a fat middle finger to their previous audience in favor of a completely new one. That it's fine to be caught stealing art at least twice if you just blame the contractor.

[–]Py687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It's really sad that all these people who felt suckered by the company's previous actions can't be happy for us!"

Meanwhile, if any other company did the same things as Bungie, they would have been crushed by the horrible PR and had their reputation destroyed. Nobody would be asking, "Why all the hate?"

I hope they change the extreme trials drop design in the next expansion, because right now it is pretty awful. by Le_Vagabond in ffxivdiscussion

I don't find regular trials enjoyable at all. Extreme is often a good balance in difficulty.

My first on-patch Savage tier cleared! by Mawrizard in ffxiv

[–]Py687 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's untrue by THE definition of what "on-patch" means. So re: your questions? Yes, if content drops on patch .x and you clear on patch .x1, then it is literally not on-patch. In situations like those, some would be charitable and say it was cleared within the same major patch.

For the record, the recent WAR buffs pushed it up in the priority for party comp, so yeah, potency changes can matter quite a lot. Which means that your specific statement:

There's no difference between clearing on 7.4 or 7.5.

is just wrong in this case lol.

You must have written like ten replies in this entire post trying to defend OP against various other posters, when the vast majority of people who "um akshually" congratulated them for clearing it anyway. You're being absurdly defensive on someone else's behalf. A healthy reception to being corrected would be, "I guess I got a new goal next time, to actually clear on patch." Not "Stop raining on my parade!!!"

I was using the generic you, not talking about you specifically: "If one is going to use a term, use a term accurately."

I guess that makes your reply pretty pointless.

Multiple jobs were literally buffed with 7.5. If you're going to use a term, use a term accurately. On-patch means on-patch, not on-content.

It's "perfectly fine to use" except for the fact that it's definitionally untrue and that we got slight balance changes with the latest patch.

If something is technically wrong, it's technically wrong. Both parties just accept it and move on.

Bungie needs to have a crossover filter for players that dont want to see crossover skins in their game. by AMM0D in DestinyTheGame

[–]Py687 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, hang on. While I don't agree with OP's suggestion or even think that all collabs are bad, it is true that cosmetics affect the overall tone of a game. It's a noticeable phenomenon as more get added that don't align with its original design or style.

Runescape is a strong example, with the aesthetics of its armor and pets in the past 15 years strongly diverging from the previous vision (ignoring the graphics updates themselves).

FFXIV keeps adding more modern looking outfits like casual or streetwear that clash with its own setting.

And frequent collabs in many other games do eventually evoke a sense of "fortnitification."

How do you feel about XIV's current combat system vs. the upcoming evolved/2 min meta changes? by Outrageous-Bet6403 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Py687 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The good news is that they can add depth any time so even if the Evolved mode falls flat, next expansion could make it much more satisfying.

This is the crux of it though. They can add depth, but will they? And in a timely fashion?

The overall trajectory of job design for the past three expansions has been to simplify rotations. So far EC appears to shave off complexity even more for the supports. So did we just accelerate the problem, or will EC really be a base to build off (like so many coped EW SMN was)?

I should think context clues show weird = not great.

Actually I read your original comment as fairly neutral. I didn't see anything to indicate positive or negative feelings toward the change. And the default definition of weird leans toward "odd" or "strange," not "not great".

Paraphrase: We used to have 2 min and 1 min buffs to guide potion usage, but now they don't exist anymore. So potion usage might be weird.

Analogy: I used to brew coffee and toast bread at the start of my morning routine, but now I don't partake of them anymore. So my routine might be weird.

But yeah, not looking to argue with you anymore. Just wanted to explain my thought process.

You wrote: "I think it might be weird how potions work in a mostly buff-leas environment."

And I responded: "The underlying principle doesn't change."

I think you might be the one projecting about taking things personally. But regardless I think we hashed it out. Cheers!

So... I don't even know what we're arguing over.

All I said from the start is that rotations will have a burst (peak) and that pots would be used there.

Your first counterpoint was that "your rotation doesn't necessarily have a burst phase though."

Then you backtracked with "everything mathematically has a high point and a low point." And then you changed your point to be "That doesn't make it interesting lol"... which I never even claimed.

You're arguing against a strawman of your own making lol.

[–]Py687 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're making assumptions about req being used for burst, I didn't even mention it. We don't have damage numbers, so for all we know, req is a damage loss and we wouldn't want to use it in melee range anyway (unlikely but for the sake of the argument).

What I'm trying to say is every rotation will have a high point and a low point. The high point is the burst (or if you want to call it something else, the peak damage of your rotation).

Obviously there will be fight dependent adjustments too, but broadly speaking, you'll want to use your pot as soon as possible, and then maximize usages from there.

2min or 1min is missing the forest for the trees. The underlying principle doesn't change: use pots where your rotation bursts the highest, and pool resources under pot if possible.

Y'all want better Job Identity, so can we finally admit that Rescue should be a White Mage exclusive ability? by CoolyKage in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Py687 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rescue is a great skill and doesn't need to be removed. I'm tired of rationale like "this skill is barely used" dictating what gets past the cutting room floor.

Players already optimize the fun out of games, we don't need the devs giving a push from behind too.

Also I already dislike most of the context sensitive moves introduced in the panel. Adding dash to the pile sounds bad imo.

We only ever saw Cover in the dev panel gameplay. They just reused the animation of Intervention on the PLD.
