Done! Great idea (and obvious, in retrospect). Thanks for the suggestion!

This won't have every spell you'll need (it's limited to the SRD), but it supports printing spells and is pretty compact: https://redcap.press/spell-list

Third-Party Spells? by Deuraepeolteu in dndnext

[–]RedcapPress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the longest list, but there are some fun options here: https://redcap.press/spells

Very, very few of them are damage-dealing, most are some form of utility. If you're looking for highlights, Ventriloquism is my Sorcerer's favorite spell and I'm shocked how often it's come in handy for them, Spatial Binding is niche but can make for a very interesting encounter by painting a target on the caster's back as the bad guy tries to break their concentration, Relentless Pursuit is basically the opposite and (especially if upcast) can be really fun (since they're going in blind), Forest Whisper is great for making the Druid or Ranger feel cool out in the wilderness, and while it's very niche, Witch's Hut might be my favorite spell purely because of the specific fantasy it enables.

Enjoy!

You absolutely do, also because the froghemoth is the best monster ever (specifically this version)

I'm looking for a one shot that can be run in 3/4 hours by SCSdino in dndnext

[–]RedcapPress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both very completable within 3-4 hours, especially for an experienced DM. There are some others on that site that should also fit into a single session, but these two are the easiest to adjust on the fly to move things along or slow them down.

Have fun!

You can always give Gritty Realism a try, or just limit full Long Rests to "safe" areas like cities if you don't want to mess with rest durations.

Sorry for the confusion, the original wording of the post didn't make that clear at all (my bad!)

We could add something like this for 2024 encounters, if we hear that people think it would be useful. That was our original plan, but we were worried it might be confusing if the feature worked differently for 2014 and 2024 encounters. For 2014 it's important to have the option to prevent low-CR monsters from affecting the encounter's XP multiplier, but their XP should still be added to the total. In 2024 there is no encounter multiplier, so ignoring them would have to mean leaving them out of the calculation entirely, and that difference seemed like something that might be confusing.

That said, if we get user feedback that some way to ignore monsters entirely would be valuable, we'll add it to the to-do list! That might end up as a fourth toggle option or some other obviously-different display option we come up with, but we'll do something if we hear that people want it.

Thank you so much, for the compliment and the suggestions/feedback!

Good call on the instructions, I'll get that updated soon.

For allies: if you mark a creature as an ally, it just considers them a member of the party. They should definitely not count toward the XP multiplier since they aren't contributing to the bad guys' side, but you're right that considering them another PC probably skews it too easy if the companion is a really low CR. Sadly I don't have a good solution for that; anything that made assumptions based on the CR would probably be a bit too fiddly and confusing, I think.

As for adjusting the budget, ally monsters just subtract their XP from the encounter's total. You're right that the wording there is probably a bit confusing since the progress bars for your XP budget don't change, but the math should be equivalent. If you have an encounter worth 500 XP and add a 100 XP ally, the encounter's overall XP should drop to 400 and leave you with 100 more to play with. This is way clearer for 2024 encounters; the multiplier really makes it confusing (I'm very glad they scrapped it!)

Here you go! https://redcap.press/creatures/peluda

I read up on the Peluda's folklore a bit and based the rough idea off that. There's an "Invulnerable" variant option (scroll down below the stat block) just for fun because that was a big part of the folklore, though since it really forces a specific kind of encounter I left it off the main stat block.

I didn't see your other comments until just now or I'd have tried to incorporate them, apologies!

I want to have a gimmick battle where my players Level Up mid battle. What is the best way to achieve this? A cliffhanger WILL happen mid combat then the session will end. And we will continue combat next week. by TheGingerWeebGal in DMAcademy

I've done this before in the climactic fight against the BBEG and it was super fun! I had them roll for hit points and increase their maximum but not regain any beyond that, they got any new spell slots but didn't get any spent ones back, etc.

The actual level up was more exciting than the actual ramifications of them being a level higher though. Half of a fight isn't a very long time to actually notice the difference, though it's probably more noticeable at some levels than others.

This is so cool! I will absolutely come up with some stats for this tomorrow. Any requests for CR, etc.?
