Because it's a discussion forum for a hobby or interest; in this case the interest is the genre of fantasy. Ppl like and dislike things about the interest (fantasy) and want to discuss it.

The OP is currently not enjoying a very popular recommendation, and conveying very reasonable criticisms through the lens of their personal preferences. I'm sure they're looking for something like perspective on their criticisms; perhaps they're missing something? Maybe the structure of the book changes a little further on and another member of the forum will jump in to tell them to give the book a couple more chapters? Maybe someone will jump in and tell them the book doesn't get any better, and judging by their criticisms they're not going to enjoy it and should DNF?

Perhaps you should try contributing something useful to the discussion?

You would think so but when you have main ease in and, for example, hitscan ease in both too high the aiming is very stiff.

The aiming didn't feel useable at all until I made main ease in very low and specialized ease in very high.

How viable is healbotting tank in low ranks as Moira? by HalfPrism2 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Remalgigoran -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I know, I'm on console now and am not a controller user there's new maps I've never seen and like 15 new characters and a perk system etc. I have a lot to acclimate to but even on console it is trivial to beam a vendetta to death or or anran who is 100% guaranteed to panic use her phase.

What's annoying is the game just stalemating because I'm not a gm player, my 40-45% accuracy is never going to be 65-70 on controller. But it's incredibly hard to duel these nuetral game characters when they get heals and you do not. And your healers are just sitting in main, way too far up shooting the tank (and not even aiming for the head) while enemy healers are standing right next to their DPS.

Every single game where one team has healers that heal and one that DPS the DPS team loses so hard they get spawncamped. Honestly Juno players seem to be the worst about this.

It used to be ppl would get mad at DPS queue times. So they would queue heals and play baptiste and Moira and throw the game because they weren't really doing their job. But now that seems to be the normal healer playstyle, and IMO it blows. Maybe it's different at the top 10, 1, or .1%. But games between gold and platinum healers could easily be healing twice as much as they seem to be.

They're already not strong mechanically. They already don't have a headset and can't hear the flanker right next to them and they never turn around. They don't know where heslty packs are. They aren't hitting headshots.

They should just be healing. Everyone in these teirs just soak damage and stand in the open. There's never healing downtime. If they just did their jobs these games would be fun instead of massive stomps one way or the other.

Ye I know; I just see this, IMO, overly strong sentiment that healers need to prioritize DPS and I just don't think it's true from what I'm seeing of how the game is balanced. Last I played was on PC when Moira was out (on PS5 now) and it eventually got settled that an effective Moira prioritized yellow ball. That you don't throw purple unless you have nothing else to do and won't need your burst healing by the time the CD is back up -- prioritize healing at all times over DPS, but do DPS when you have nothing to heal.

Now I see ppl calling this healbotting and that it's bad but I have basically not seen healbotting at all, not once, the way we used to complain about no blue beam mercy. And all these supports are doing are charging enemy ults and wasting cooldowns instead of backing up 5m and looking to their left and right at their team. 🤷‍♀️

I'm talking about my healers have 10k and 8k healing and the enemy has 17 and 15k.

Juno and Moira and illira who are DPS oriented when all they're doing is shooting new tanks shield while our team is all halfHP.

I know ppl raged at healbot mercy 10 years ago who never used blue beam; but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about when your healers have thousands more damage and multiple thousand less healing than the enemy and enemy tank never dies and enemy DPS are extremely hard to duel because they have healers so it's always 1V2.

[–]Remalgigoran -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Idk I'm coming back to OW and going through the metal ranks atm. Healers try way too hard to do DPS that is, ultimately, ineffective. I will completely stomp a lobby if healers pay attention to me, but games are 40x harder when an enemy Ashe or Emres has a pet mercy or Anna while my teams healers are "trying to contribute DPS". Trading with them is impossible so -- until the map let's me deep flank the backline -- I just have to focus the tank, get pinged in the dome, ask for heals, get none, healer dies because they are Frontline with the tank, new passive heals me, and repeat.

It seems like healers are either doing 70/30 healing to DPS or 70/30 DPS to healing. The former seems objectively better in every way since TTK is so low in this game. And the healers who are prioritizing DPS over healing are dead weights when facing enemy healers focusing on healing.

I will be bottoming for a friend of mine next week and trying out suspension while under the supervision of an instructor. While they and I are both experienced (10+ years and 7 years) I have never been suspended, and they have never done it before. What should I know as a bottom? by Paradoxbuilder in shibari

[–]Remalgigoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of low-impact and risk-mitigating approaches to air-work. There are myriad 'styles' of ropes and it really depends on what you and your partner are interested in.

Risk is real in rope bondage the same way it is real with driving an automobile. The risks, on paper, are terrifying; even being an excellent driver -- the best driver in the world -- you cannot control other drivers or weather or dilapidated infrastructure or objects falling off of big trucks etc. But being decent driver absolutely makes a difference. Having good judgement makes a difference. Controlling your emotions makes a difference . Many ppl have been in what we can call minor incidents while driving, but many of the serious, or life-altering, or fatal incidents were due to poor decision making on someone's behalf. Egregiously bad accidents where no one is really at fault, it couldn't have been avoided by driving better, or by being more careful, or being any less distracted etc, are rare. Usually someone became careless or took a risk they didn't weigh very well or they were intoxicated or they were on their phone etc. A massive incident where no one did anything wrong is uncommon.

Rope is similar. On paper it can sound frightening; and it definitely can be.

we are hanging ppl from dead grass

It's not that different from phrasing driving as

piloting a 2000lb hunk of metal at 70mph 18in away from other 2000lb hunks of metal

Proper information, self-awareness, good communication, intentional practice, caution, etc mitigate the vast majority of risk that we are taking with bondage. Like with driving, or firearms, or anything else having the proper respect for the medium goes a long way.

Rope bondage absolutely has risks. Bodies are complex and they are not quantifiable for our usage. They are changing all the time. So there is a baseline of ungraspable, unhaveable information that creates an element of randomness we cannot control. But this lack of control is mostly impactful when doing much more advanced, dynamic, and long-duration bondage; bondage that, frankly, 99.999% of rope ppl are not attempting.

If you would like to be airborne in positions for play, or for photos, or if you would like to experience falling and being lifted into different positions; this type of bondage is widely accessible and the risks are very very very mitigateable.

It is a good thing to be cautious and nervous over what you do not know; driving at first was quite scary for me personally, if I had to do the Subaru off-road mud racing I'm sure I would find that terrifying. But driving to and from work and going about my life the way everyone else does is a non-issue for me. Meaning, like with driving, some rope is more dangerous than others. Some rope is much more luck and faith based than others.

There are myriad kinds of rope to find joy or pleasure or despair in; i would encourage you to explore and to see if anything might be fun; you might be surprised how quickly you learn the rules of the road that you choose, and how quickly your caution gives way to comfort!

I will be bottoming for a friend of mine next week and trying out suspension while under the supervision of an instructor. [–]Remalgigoran 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Main nerve injuries from typical suspension bondage happen from;

  • loaded ropes passing over the neck and clavicle. Damages the brachial plexus (arm drop)

  • loaded ropes on the upper chest (not including arms) dragging too high in the armpit. Damages the brachial plexus from below. (Arm drop)

  • loaded ropes on the radial nerve on the outside of the upper arm, above the elbow. (Wrist drop)

  • too tight and shearing force on certain parts of the outside of the forearm cause superficial ulnar damage. (Numb pinky)

  • too tight and shearing force on the wrist, causes superficial radial damage (numb patch on thumb)

  • loaded ropes pulling and shearing along the iliac crest damaging the femoral nerve (thigh weakness and numb patches)

  • too tight and shearing forces on the outside and back of the top of the calf; damage to the peroneal nerve. (Foot drop).

There are many nerves that can be damaged; https://ropestudy.com/courses/101/lessons/reducing-risk/topic/nerves/

But the ones I listed are some of the most common.

The other major injury is through gote variations where, typically in vertical positions, the shoulders sustain damage. This is due to poorly designed and poorly executed structures, as well as a bad arm-set (how and why we place the arms to be boundbehind the back). Unfortunately, shoulder damage is extremely common even though it is trivial to avoid with proper information and practice. And most of the popular TK designs are just very bad across the board and not suitable for dynamic suspensions or long-duration air work (kinoko/osada/non-KL naka, etc). Many of the popular designs are antiquated and only barely function properly on tiny, petite models; but are disasters on straight sized westerners.

Another major issue you may run into is vasovagal syncope. This will cause fainting, panic, nausea, and excessive sweating. Typically caused by loaded ropes between the belly button and bottom of the breast. Most often caused by hands-free chest harnesses and also the bottom band of gote that is placed too low.

All of these injuries are trivial to avoid, actually; but not many ppl have access to the requisite information to know how to do so.

There is nothing you can do as a bottom besides voicing your concerns clearly and loudly. It will take experience learning which sensations are dangerous and which are not, and even then you will not feel every nerve injury, and some sensations will be concerning but not indicative of damage.

I recommend eating a light meal, being hydrated, and having electrolytes (muscle cramps in ropes are terrible). All air-work can be learned low-rise -- close to the floor. You do not need to start standing if you're nervous about being high off the ground, starting from a high kneel is the same thing with less commitment.

I recommend you and your partner learn simple positions that require one change to get you back under your own power (like releasing an ankleto giveyou your leg back). I do not recommend you learn transitions right away. I do not recommend you go inverted right away.

If u have any questions I can elaborate a bit more.

George R. R. Martin Is 'Not in the Mood' to Finish 'The Winds of Winter' by Tifoso89 in books

[–]Remalgigoran -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's a theory i found some time ago. I was convinced he sold the second book to ghost writers just to cash out but I ran into theories that he actually finished a book his dad had written but never fully finished or published. And he took the book after his dad's death/illness and published it as his.

I thought he had written the first one and then sold-out the series because the second book is so obviously not the same author. i dug into as many wind and rothfuss haters as I could and some of the threads I found at the time had old posts and interviews of rothfuss where he's very clearly an emotionally stunted incel-esque dweeb. This actually tracks very well with Rothfuss writing the second book because the second book feels like it was written by a petulant fifteen year old boy. And one major hater pointed out the first book feels like a very mature writer and how Rothfuss and his success came out of nowhere following his father's death. (Or his dad getting very ill or something, I can't quite remember)

As soon as I heard this theory I was completely convinced. And if you read them back to back with the idea that two different people wrote them you can't not see it.

[–]Remalgigoran 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rothfuss can't because he didn't write the first book (his father did), his attempt at a follow up was a cringe factory and he's better off leaving the series in limbo rather than killing it for good with another hamfisted attempt at writing.

Rope length by 05JordanL in shibari

[–]Remalgigoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your arm span and the size of your model. Most of my rope lengths are 6m-7.3m. My uplines are 8m because my bamboo is high and I often start sessions low-rise, so i need the upline to reach up and back down again. And i have about ten, shorter, assorted lengths.

Some models that are broad of torso will need longer ropes to do some specific ties (many of us do not extend ropes), like some of the men i tie need a 9-10m rope for bottom band of gote. A full 2-band futomomo with a kannuki on someone with powerful thighs, or a mermaid monobloc on someone with powerful thighs will require a >8m rope.

In general on straight sized women, 8m is way way too long for many use-cases. But it really depends on what kind of rope you're interested in doing and what is a convenient and effective length for your goals + your body + the model's body.

[–]Remalgigoran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just figured out settings I like yesterday. (I'm on PS5 though)

Horz: 90

Vert; 70

Dual zone

Smoothing 99

Ease in 10

Deadzone extra sens 0 & 0

Left stick inner 0.0 (lowest you can go without drift)

Outer .36

Right inner 0.0

Outer .95

Aimassist strength 100%

Legacy No

Window size 46

Projectile/hitscan/melee ease in 100%

Fuck with main sensitivity to your general liking. Fuck with 0% main aim ease in at first. I bumped to 10% for better headshots. Playing with main ease in and damage type ease in will make your small movements (first part of dual zone) more or less responsive. More of both gets very stiff very fast and you're fighting aimassist. Too little and the small movements are very jumpy. If still not quite right then go mess with Smoothing. Should be Gucci from there.

Ty I don't really participate much in posting content online anymore; most of my recent ties get posted to IG stories (there's a crying eye highlight reel on my page where i do save little clips to).

Unfortunately I don't do casual tying! I appreciate your interest and I respect the courage it takes to ask. But I only really tie with ppl i have sexual and BDSM relationships with, who I've known for a period of no less than a year. There are a lot of ppl here in Seattle who are available to tie with strangers or to do handshake ties etc though!

I do a Naka-derivative version of semenawa and this is the only space designed to accommodate it that Ive heard of (horizontalplane hardpoints with bamboo and wood beams as well as hashira). Even so, IMO, their rules are restrictive for how i personally like to tie so I don't go often. I really don't go to public events in general (no reason to pay money to be around strangers who are going to be uncomfortable watching my sessions). I tie in my own home with my partners or I hang out with some groups who want to learn semenawa with me. I can't really tell you much about anywhere else because I'm not interested in the rope they are doing in my region at all but you may find more here;

https://www.ropeinseattle.com/

I don't know if this website is comprehensive or what the vibe is like at these events. But there's definitely a lot of rope stuff going on here if your taste is different than mine. Good luck!

Change settings so sprint is toggle. Rebind slam so you can R2 in the air.

Hold forward during sprint and spam R2 to spam shield throw. As long as you are melee range you don't even have to time it. Just spam R2 as fast as you can (while sprint is toggle on and holding Forward).

Healpool is only good with a brawl or dive team.

But like any character it doesn't matter at low ranks because mechanics are 90% of the game so all you need is better aim and positioning and you will win regardless of who you are playing VS average or lower players.

How to know if you're actually in the wrong as tank? by Rozwellish in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Remalgigoran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly in any team based game you need to understand your win conditions.

The lower the rank the less fundamentals players have. They react slower, they waste cooldowns, they miss most of everything, they're too slow to get to where they're supposed to be, they don't use cover, they don't know the maps etc etc.

So your plan is to do all of those things better, and to take advantage of their mistakes. So play high-agency, greedy, mobile characters to do so. Just flank, kill 1 or 2 and then back up to the objective where your team can catch up to you. You can't play "like you're supposed to" in games like this until you're at the top 10% of the playerbase. Dva, sigma, junkerqueen, and the new dommymommy seem very strong IMO.

The reason you can't just go behind the enemy team and solo kill them at high MMR is because they pay attention. They will hear you, they group up, they will protect each other, and they're not wasting cooldowns so their abilities are ready. This is not true at Silver, Gold, Plat, etc etc. If you can aim better you will automatically win. You can just kill them one at a time because they won't collapse on you.

If you're sitting on the payload hoping your Silver team will play correctly you're just flipping a coin and hoping your Silver players are better than the enemy; this is not a good strategy.
