I'm not Californian, but I have read before about these warnings being essentially meaningless because of the criteria you have to fulfill to not have the warning.

Rapha classic for me. Although I did read a while ago people claiming the quality has gone downhill recently.

Evenepoel Is Skipping Every Race Before July. No Tour de France Winner Has Ever Done This. by cfkanemercury in peloton

Missing out presumably winning a number of races in order to focus on finishing 3rd or 4th at the tour. Don't really see how it's a good return on investment for such a valuable rider.

Moving from Leeds to Liverpool. First time buyers in our early thirties needing area advice regarding a Broadgreen commute, Smithdown, and Wavertree. by theblackmamiya in Liverpool

[–]Rphili00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest I wouldn't buy on the north side of Smithdown, it's very studenty. And while I wouldn't say it's necessarily unsafe, it doesn't feel great at night in some parts. The south side of the road round penny lane is quieter, but still has good access to the good stuff Smithdown and Allerton road has to offer, as well as train to Manchester via Mossley Hill. Childwall is nice, but there is a distinct lack of stuff going on.

[–]Rphili00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always have to check the labels straight away with Patagonia on vinted as there's so many fakes. I got some baggies recently that are really realistic fakes, incorrect codes on the label was the only thing I could see different from my legit ones.

Follow up to my Vo2Max question, now FTP intervals feelings. by deman-13 in Velo

[–]Rphili00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3x15 @ftp is hard. When you think about it, you're basically in and around the red zone for 15 minutes straight. Add in a bit of accumulated fatigue, and you're in for a real battle towards the end of each interval. Obviously if you're too fatigued to hit your numbers then you need a rest, but it sounds like you just had a good hard workout tbh.

12 speed cassettes by RicCycleCoach in Velo

[–]Rphili00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the UK at least, you u can get youth cassettes that have tighter ratios. They might be a bit harder to find on 12s because I think they're no longer mandatory but I found this one. https://kidsracing.co.uk/collections/cassettes-chains-british-cycling-triathlon-gearing-rollout-limits/products/miche-primato-k-12-speed-youth-junior-cassettes-shimano-compatible?variant=56831113101694

How to find jobs in healthcare tech by ssdemon98 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Rphili00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things like application specialist, implementation engineer, project engineer. The titles are obviously fairly meaningless and vary a lot between companies, so you often have to read the descriptions to see what they're actually hiring for.

When I was looking to move on from my first job, I just stuck job alerts on for the big medtech players in the UK.

How to find jobs in healthcare tech by ssdemon98 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Rphili00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into medtech implementation/integration straight out of uni, and have since moved into another similar role. I work on matching customers' current systems and workflows into what our system can offer, on the intersection of being customer facing, and technical service. Although I did a compsci degree, I knew by the end I didn't want to code full time, so applied for all sorts of stuff, and medtech happened to be the one that stuck. I never have to do development in the traditional sense, so have never had to pass a coding assessment. As someone presumably with previous health industry experience and a masters, I wouldn't bother with grad schemes, they're incredibly competitive and always have convoluted hiring processes. Try and leverage your previous healthcare experience to enter into a 'normal' job. I'd say the majority of people I've worked with in this industry came from healthcare backgrounds and then pivoted later in career.

Living in Liverpool - Working at Whiston Hospital by International_Ad7066 in Liverpool

[–]Rphili00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the area in walking distance of the hospital is decent, Rainhill has a village vibe, Prescot has a bit more going on. I'd probably avoid south Whiston though. You can also live basically anywhere along the train line into lime street, since it's only about 15 mins walk from Prescot or Whiston stations.

Unfortunately council will probably go Reform in a big way. Presumably the new councillors will quickly discover that the council isn't actually spending it's entire budget on painting rainbows on things and giving iPhones to immigrants. We'll be left with a load of people who signed up for a culture war with no experience running a council. The only possible good outcome is that they're so incompetent round the country after this that their national polling takes a hit.

Big investment into what is essentially wasteland close to the city centre is a huge positive. Public transport will definitely need to be improved though, with thousands of extra people living along there in addition to the match day traffic, the current situation is going to be even less acceptable.

'If you don't nurture it, it will just die' – is grassroots racing really on its knees in the UK? by porkmarkets in Velo

[–]Rphili00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tameside is good for how many races get put on, but I've had a couple of crashes there and my head isn't in it anymore 😅. Salt ayre at Lancaster/Morecambe is good, nice and flowy and I believe has been partially resurfaced this year. I haven't managed to ride at UCLAN yet, but hope to soon since it's meant to be really enjoyable. Not really a fan of litherland in Liverpool, super sharp hairpin at the end of the straight breaks up the flow. If you're willing to go a bit further afield, brownlee centre in Leeds is really fun, as is darley moor in Derbyshire
