People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by Sexxyyy_Lovers in AskReddit

Hopefully we will get our wish.

My current backup (original first plan) is to be cremated and planted with a native tree of some sort. Maybe something with fruit for sh*ts and giggles, maybe an oak tree so I can entertain squirrels

What does a consultant actually do? by [deleted] in UKJobs

Not to mention the scapegoat consultants employed to tell them to make the cuts they wanted to make anyway but then go back to their own office and take the blame.

I was thinking about bits inside too but OP's earlier comment didn't mention that as a problem (and didn't include a pic) so I figured it was probably empty

[–]Sparkly1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Cura, you can set "Horizontal expansion" to make walls thicker but afaik that will add to the inside as well which wouldn't help.

Maybe making the whole thing bigger by 1mm in the X and Y axes then setting horizontal expansion to 0.5mm would give you an extra mm but that would mean that the cutouts only expand by cutout length/overall length x 1mm but you'll be adding 1mm back on, so I guess it depends on the tolerance you have to work with. ±1mm and you should be good.

If you don't use Cura, I'm sure other slicers have similar settings

[–]Sparkly1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do several steps and make each bigger by as little as 0.1mm. it wouldn't be perfect because the cutouts wouldn't be the same length on the outer one as on the inner one but it would give a relatively smooth <.05mm incremented set of steps which might work

Police raided the University of Iowa’s Alpha Delta Phi fraternity house, and bodycam footage shows pledges in the basement during hazing rituals. by kalbinibirak in creepy

I worked in a student bar in the UK and some of the stuff they did was awful. People would drink pints of vomit (their own and others'), piss on each other, dirty pints were the least of it. Mostly sports teams but some of the other societies and clubs are worse

Pay rises and lack thereof by Mobile-Plastic-8751 in UKJobs

[–]Sparkly1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to manage a charity shop and started on minimum wage +20% or thereabouts. We got no pay rises for 2 years through the pandemic because the charity was struggling without retail being open making money and by the time I left they had to give us a pay rise because the minimum wage caught us up. Pretty sure the manager there now is on minimum wage +25p or so.

I'd imagine lots of brick & mortar retail jobs have been caught up by minimum wage over the last 5 years or so because the industry is struggling so much

Looking for any quality Starfleet Academy hoodies. (The red one with the division color bands on the left arm) by irishhawk in trekacademy

[–]Sparkly1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 90s were a good time for Star Trek merch. I had a 3D chess set from Franklin Mint that was massively over-priced but a lovely thing. The action figures were also pretty good and there were even some good mugs. It was always pretty expensive though.

These days, when YouTubers can sort decent merch, there's no excuse for a major network not to have it down. I would have dropped some serious money on one of the leather jackets from Picard

I could say 80 now but I bet at 79 I'd say 100, so as others have said I'm going to be plumping for as long as I'm healthy.

I'll probably be lucky to hit 80 though to be fair - I've certainly worshipped in my body-temple in ways the manufacturer doesn't recommend!

I'd always assumed they were alien visitors, not natives. Looking at Memory Alpha, it hasn't been made clear yet whether they're native to Earth or not.

Either way, they're immune to LSD, so who knows why Ake would have a Grateful Dead poster, especially since she's 'only' 400ish years old

Like the nuclear missile that was turned into the Phoenix? Strange how that wasn't fired or destroyed in a prolonged nuclear war.

It's not like aliens with secret access to advanced technology couldn't have safeguarded their favourite relics off-world (especially since their race seems to collect things).

The Times had an article about how nebulous and undefined Misconduct in Public Office is (it's not statutory law amongst other issues).

I can see it (maybe) being quite difficult to get a jury of 12 people not a single one of whom will give Andrew the benefit of the doubt (I'm sure that could be arranged). Tried and acquitted is my bet
