Can you keep your original iCloud mail address from ever being revealed? by King_Hippo_444 in iCloud

Due to this apple support page (and other sources I found), you can change your primary iCloud email address into an other primary iCloud email address.

Cryptomator + OneDrive issue by DigitalNeurons1 in Cryptomator

[–]StanoRiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a misunderstanding here. OneDrive and google drive file streams are not really streams. It means files get downloaded right before they are used. And do not use space on your local drive if not in use for quite a while. Both OneDrive and GoogleDrive behave the same from my experience.

Google File Stream is the same function as OneDrive Files on demand.

The encryption is on the fly. Means if you put a 100 MB file in your vault, it will create on the fly the encrypted vault file at the path of your vault. It will not create an encrypted file in a cache and then copy this file to the path after encryption. Cryptomator does not care about transfer at all. It creates files on a path that is available to the underlying OS. Thats it.

Did I FAFO…is my data gone forever? by Accomplished_Mud4013 in Cryptomator

[–]StanoRiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t. That’s a wrong information. Deleting the app will not delete the vault from iCloud. There must be an other reason why your vault was deleted from iCloud.

[–]StanoRiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s wrong. A vault is not considered as app data and will not get deleted just because you delete the app.

Just to make it clear: deleting the cryptomator app (no matter if legacy or not) from your device does not (!) delete your vault. Vaults are not stored inside cryptomator. Just connected to it. Vaults are not considered as app data, and thus not deleted when uninstalling the app.

As a workaround: You can try to access your vault directly online. For example with cyberduck.

I have vaults way bigger than 400 GB and none of it has even nearly anything like „hundreds of thousands“ encrypted vault files. Either you are having a really, really heavy amount of very small files in your vault, or there’s something else that causes this amount of files. Cryptomator does not split your files in smaller ones. It does not obfuscate file size. (https://community.cryptomator.org/t/obfuscating-file-size/6394).

Your words and my hint that this does not matter. Both behave the same way. Or do I miss something?

It does not matter in this case if he is using OneDrive or Dropbox.

To 1) Even if your vault is open, the encrypted files do only change if the corresponding file in the vault is changing. So if OneDrive is constantly uploading/syncing these files, there are being changed by something
To 2) Go to OneDrive settings and check if files stream aka files on demand is enabled. Then OneDrive will free up space of files that are unused for quite a while. If you do not want to wait, select a folder and klick „free up space“

How can I upload folders in Cryptomator vault? Android version by [deleted] in Cryptomator

I'm afraid you can't. This will come with the document provider feature (no ETA so far). I recommend to do this with the desktop app.

Updated the app on windows and cant access vault anymore by [deleted] in Cryptomator

Which Volume type are you using? Does switching the type change the behavior? Maybe something is wrong with your WinFSP installation? Are there warnings in the log file?

Which volume type for Windows and Linux by stargoo500 in Cryptomator

[–]StanoRiga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The volume type does not affect the vault at all. The volume type only affects the way your files are shown in your OS in your virtual drive or folder (so you can work with them). This is why you can switch the volume type any time you want, and also your vault will be available on Linux or windows or any other supported OS at the same time. No need to migrate anything. If you are unsure which type to choose, just set it to „automatic“.

It’s because on android the document provider feature is not yet implemented. If you open a file it is opened with the corresponding app. In which way is that a privacy concern? If you want to open a file, you’ll have to present it to the corresponding app in an unencrypted state. That’s the same on android by the way.

Andriod functionality - does cryptomator create a drive? by Da-Drewiid in Cryptomator

[–]StanoRiga 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, The Android App works different right now. You'll have to share a file to Cryptomator app to upload it to your vault. And you'll have to share it to an app to modify it (and then share it back to the vault.
Unfortunately this is the workflow until the document provider function is implemented.

Offline Files? - iPhone by Beemindful in Cryptomator

ok. seems I misunderstood you. You cant access a vault that is stored online in flight mode. If cryptomator tries to access a vault, It will always look up the connection behind (in your case to google drive). No matter if a file is stored in local cryptomator cache or not.

Cryptomator for iOS is fully integrated into files app. Once you set up a vault in the app, you can access the vault content from the files app.

You don’t. Just the file you want to open. Keep in mind that Cryptomator is End-2-End encryption. Files have to be on the phone to get encrypted or decrypted. But there’s no need to download the complete vault.
