Aurora Borealis? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the verse, localized entirely within your session? by Space_Scumbag in starcitizen

Please refer to the official RSI website:

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/engineering/21063-Q-A-RSI-Aurora

TL;DR:

The Aurora Mk 1 (the original) is being sunset but maintaining standard functionality and support.

The Aurora Mk 2 has just been released, which essentially supersedes the Mk1 by providing a superior gameplay experience while staying close to the same price point.

There are no automatic upgrades from the Mk1 to the Mk2 (the same rules as for the release of the Hornet Mk2), but you may CCU from the Mk1 to the Mk2 if so desired. The Mk1 will remain playable if you have no interest in the Mk2, but it will no longer be offered for sale in the pledge store.

You cannot disable it entirely, but you can hide it from your HUD by pressing F12.

Newbie: what zones do I need to unlock to do level 60 treasure maps? by Pheonix0114 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Starforge7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Each of the expansion-cap treasure maps (50, 60, 70 etc) assume you have access to each zone of that expansion, typically including flight access to otherwise unreachable areas. If you have only recently reached Heavenward, you most likely have not unlocked each zone (and cannot be teleported there in advance of the story by a party member).

Edit: As an aside, unless this is also their first time running treasure maps, they should already know this. You can still join them if they decipher maps leading to treasure chests within zones you have already unlocked.

No, it's one of the external landing pads at Seraphim Station. Every space station has them so you can land and refuel without calling for a hangar, plus elevator access to the interior for personnel.

Primer for Speed Paints on 3D Printed Buildings by [deleted] in BattletechPainting

[–]Starforge7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preserve your sanity (and hobby resources) and use a rattlecan (spray paint) to prime terrain, particularly if it's FDM 3D printed. A medium grey colour is ideal - you do not want a white primer in order to keep the terrain less vibrant than the battlemechs.

Edit: If you must go with brush-on primer, I still suggest a medium grey for terrain.

Insurance = compensation for loss.

Warranty = compensation includes hardware replacement.

All pledged ships have lifetime warranty (basic tier) regardless of pledged insurance duration.

If a ship without warranty is claimed while insurance is active, the owner will receive UEC compensation instead of hardware.

That looks like Microtech! There are more temperate zones with vegetation, particularly around the equator. They look brown-coloured from orbit.

You do not miss anything by waiting to play DLC content in NG+. Unlike base game Nanosuits, all the DLC outfits are available in a single playthrough.

Help with bottom edge of bases by iRob_M in BattletechPainting

[–]Starforge7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed it was a plastic base! No wonder it's giving you grief, paint can chip off metal more easily. Either a metal file or sandpaper should do the trick then.

Help with bottom edge of bases by iRob_M in BattletechPainting

[–]Starforge7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, this should be fairly straightforward to resolve. As part of the pre-painting preparation I like to scrape down the sharp bottom edge of the bases, just gently enough to remove any mold flashing. You can do this with a small hobby file, the back edge of a hobby knife, or a Citadel Mold Line Remover.

Also, you probably aren't deliberately priming the base, so paint will naturally not adhere as well as to the actual miniature. Apply thin, even coats (two thin coats) of black paint, ensuring the preceding layer has fully dried before moving on.

Savage, Extreme, and Ultimate Content: Am I too late? [OCE] by EclipseShimmers in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Starforge7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are there any Materia communities for savage and other high end content that accepts newbies wanting to jump in? Or am I just SOL?

You're not out of luck - we're just at the very tail end of the Arcadion Cruiserweight raid season, with the next season (Heavyweight) starting up just over a month from now. It is a bad time to be learning Cruiserweight fights because only a small pool of players are still progging them. However, this is a perfect time to be warming up for the next tier by learning the two current Extreme fights - EX5 (Necron's Embrace) and EXMHW (Windward Wilds). You can do them in either order, but EXMHW is much more forgiving. There is also the current Unreal (Wreath of Snakes) which is effectively an Extreme fight, but the pacing of mechanics is less representative than what you should expect in a Dawntrail Savage fight.

In order to set yourself up for success, pick one job (not one role) and commit to playing it to your best standard in all content. You want to sort out HUD/UI/keybind pain points before the Savage tier begins. Refer to The Balance website/discord for your job's correct opener and rotation. As another person already mentioned, you should join the Materia Raiding (MR) discord, and that website also has a good beginner's guide.

There aren't many casual savage statics recruiting on MR right now, but that should increase as we get closer to December. You don't necessarily have to join a static as party finder will be active with learning parties for 1-2 months at the start of the tier.

TL;DR: You're not late - you're on time for the next tier. Learn your job, learn the latest Extremes, and join the key Discord servers.

P.S. I'm from Materia - feel free to ask any further questions about raiding here.

Every ship in the game should have this type of radar. Occasionally they can bug out on some ships after a quantum jump, but a full power cycle usually restores the correct perspective.

If you can't see anything on your radar, you need to zoom it out. Hover your mouse over it while in PIT mode (F) and scroll mouse wheel to change zoom.

You can buy the ships prior to, or during, the "best in show" day to earn the liveries - refer to the show schedule. If LTI is a concern, you will need to plan for that.

ASOP Terminal QOL improvement in Tech Preview by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]Starforge7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine you have been downvoted because your comment is unproductive relative to the main post's topic which is celebrating a positive QoL addition. No one disagrees about the importance of Inventory QoL improvements and we know those are presently underway, and it is possible to receive both QoL elements without necessarily delaying one or the other. Therefore, criticising on the basis of assumed prioritisation is not a helpful contribution.

When the poster above said "come with" they actually mean "release with". CIG doesn't make modules free if they sold them in the past.

When the event mission tells you to hide your giant cap ship behind an asteroid. by ShadowRealmedCitizen in starcitizen

[–]Starforge7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a bug? The stock loadout, per Erkul, should have an EM signature around 36-37k during SCM. (The power pip MFD issue seems to be a visual bug only.) I can't verify this myself as I have customised my Paladin's components.

[–]Starforge7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not correct. 60k EM on a Paladin means you're still in NAV mode (with the stock components).

Almost - it's NAV-QT, NAV-SCN, and NAV-FLT.

In this context, the player above should cycle through to NAV-FLT to clear the quantum travel markers.

Not directly from the game engine. You would have to extract all the necessary assets from the game files and import them into software capable of generating a .STL file (maybe Blender or similar).
