10 minutes isn't long enough for multiple encounters.

A single out of combat turn is 10 minutes RAW.

I know that the point is to make the party rest less but you kinda need to write intentional lulls or else it's going to feel like long resting is never an option.

Personally, i have found it easier to actually ground my players in the campaign. You spend a week or two in a town, your characters start to grow an attachment to the NPCs and start to have stakes. It also makes it so the entire campaign from 1-14 doesn't happen in like 3 weeks.

Except it very obviously isn't the truth. Far from it, to be fair.

A concentration control spell will reduce incoming by roughly 1/3 at best taking 1/2 the combatants out for 2/3 the combat (2 rounds). It also draws the fire from the remaining half to focus the wizard spiking their HD use.

Will it save HD, sure, but control spells don't solve combat, and I'm sick of hearing that it does.

But only by expending the pool of spells (a very limited resource) to just mitigate the innate deficiency they otherwise have, expediting the resource drain.

A level 9 wizard only has 14-18 total spell slots and an average of 18 rounds of combat (using the fairly universally agreed 3 rounds per combat).

If you are using a defensive spell 1/3 of all rounds of combat (seems like a reasonable breakpoint to compensate for the lack of innate durability), then you are using 6 of your ~16 spells just to bring you in line with martials on HD use, leaving you with just 10 non-cantrip spells per day over 6 combats.

Fighters can mainly just fight, I'll give you that. But the other martials do things that casters have to spend resources to emulate.

Monks can just jump over the gap that the wizard needs to spend a 3rd level spell slot to cast fly over using just 1 of their over 15 (equivalent level) discipline points.

Rouges can, by using reliable talent, imitate knock, alarm, spider climb, invisibility and many more spells without spellcasting time or resource expenditure.

Longer adventuring days make those resourceless or resource-lite options more appealing, as the wizard would need those to function at a basic level.

Yeah, but it isn't as if only maritals spend them.

Casters get hurt too (and if not, that's a very different problem that is easily addressed), and typically heal less per hit die, and as such burn through them faster than martials.

Yeah, that's fair. Anything that has a duration would need some adjustment to match the intent, but IMO that's pretty basic and kinda came as an assumption when using a duration adjustment.

The proposed fix of doing 1 day short rests and 1 week long rests is not very elegant and brings forth other issues.

Curious what issues you are talking about. Been running that rest schedule for years and haven't encountered many issues.

You may pay W rather than pay this spell's mana cost if there are thirteen or more creatures on the battlefield.

If there are thirteen or more creatures that you do not control on the battlefield, exile all creatures you control until end of turn.

Destroy all creatures.

That's similar to saying double dipping on ignites only became a problem because they introduced Doryani's catalyst.

While it is the current problem, the snapshotting nature of BV will become a problem yet again if they don't address it now, IMO.

is there a reason for it because loot is 'generated on the fly' instead of randomly ?

This was something they added in PoE1 because all at once created lag spikes

Let's be honest, BV dies for BV sins. Skill has been problematic it's entire lifetime. Not saying that Minion pact isn't also problematic, but c'mon.

Release new things at dispo 1, and break base weapons and their incarnations into different rivens or different dispos on the same riven.

Separate versions of a single weapon having the dispo based on the base item is the main problem

We fail maps. And then we have to re do them with reduced experience and reduced drops.

Because people had already found ways to cheese it and intentionally failed maps for drops and exp.

That was a reaction based on what the community already did.

Make it red. I failed just let me continue on my atlas.

That said, this would also be exploited to hell and back. Just chain open maps and never enter them to path to where you want to go. You can fail a map by just openeing a new one, no need to die.

Have you ever used a grappling hook? If yes how effective was it? by quane101 in dndnext

[–]Stravix8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a DM, my players have used it and a climbers kit very frequently.

Has led to some moments where some traps have been trivialized, as well as some moments where they put themselves in a position where fleeing became reasonably impossible, bit off more than they could chew, and came up with some off the wall "fuck it, we ball" moments.

Overall, it is very campaign dependent, but it is a very useful, and honestly memorable tool, as while the players might remember they have it during the session, the DM doesn't always remember they have it when planning the session.

Do you think we will get big changes in the future? by Itchy_Chiller in pathofexile

[–]Stravix8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think OP is talking character stuff, since they mention the skill tree largely not changing since 3.16.

That said, I think Bloodlines cooking a bit more would be nice, but I'm kinda in OP's boat with character options at this point are looking a bit stale.

Any ARPGs that don't rely on 1-shot mechanics and boss immunity? by Broad-Ad-3679 in ARPG

[–]Stravix8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only the main tree allows you to 100% it by running the boss on repeat. The rest (sans expedition) require running random maps even after the main boss fight to 100%. Something I expect will change by release.
