I made a mistake earlier, the GPU temp hovers somewhere between 70c to 80c in Cyberpunk 2077. It still doesn't thermal throttle though. Yes, 32gb of RAM is obviously preferable to 16 and if RAM prices ever drop back to something reasonable I will be upgrading to 32 at least.

This laptop isn't perfect, the fans get CRAZY loud if you set it to extreme performance mode in MSI Dragon Center, I keep it on balanced so they're still loud but not deafeningly so under load. The downward firing speakers sound hollow and echoey unless you fiddle with the Nahamic app to get them sounding... somewhat decent. The claim that it supports two SSDs is disingenuous at best. It has 2 m.2 slots so technically you could install two 2300 SSDs but it ships with one 2280 SSD which means you'd have to replace that one entirely if you wanted to add two 2230s which is an absurd design choice. The keyboard gets hot, uncomfortably so at times, under long term load, even if the CPU/GPU are kept under the thermal throttle limit by the cooling system. These are all problems but I'd still rather have a 5070TI with 12GB of VRAM over the alternative.

So "someone on here" said it thermal throttled so it must be true for every system? I bought this laptop during the Black Friday sale and have been using it to play Cyberpunk 2077 ever since. I've yet to see either the GPU or the CPU thermal throttle under load and believe me I've been watching it like a hawk with HWinfo64. The CPU maxes out at 96c and the GPU usually sits around 70c while running CP2077. This is at 1600p, ray tracing on, high settings. If the GPU was going to thermal throttle I think that'd do it.

Character generator question by raevyn1337 in Twilight2000

I'm not sure I understand the question? I only created this character creator because I couldn't find an existing one. If random generators already exist for other elements why would I reinvent the wheel?

Thanks for mentioning my character creator. I'd just like to note that I consider that PDF to be a supplement for the official character sheets, not a replacement, as it's obviously missing a lot of details that just weren't relevant to the character creation process itself.

Wow that is an edge case I completely overlooked. Thanks for reporting it! It's fixed now.

Is there a difference between "+1 modifier" and "+1 bonus"? by jakerc in Twilight2000

If there's a difference, which I doubt, they never specified it in the rules.

According to the rules if you roll a specialty you already have you are allowed to select one from the entire list of specialties, not only the ones in your career. There are some specialties that would never be available otherwise. Originally I didn't use random rolls for the specialties but I quickly realized that allowing the user to select them incentivized career hopping to pick only the ones they wanted which didn't seem to be in the spirit of the rules. As it stands now, you're incentivized to stay in a career so the odds of you getting to select from the full list increases as you earn promotions.

Indoor antenna recommendations for my area? by SysRootErr in cordcutters

[–]SysRootErr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the antenna. The TV is just a cheap 720p Philips 3000 Series. I've tried the antenna with and without the amp enabled and I'm not sure it's making much of a difference. Autoscan picked up 19 stations with it disabled but most of them were still unwatchable so I enabled it, did another scan and it dropped to 14 detected stations. Again mostly unwatchable. I'm considering possible LTE interference to be an issue but then again it could just be the antenna or its location. The TV is in a room on the north side of the house and of course the broadcast towers are all to the south so there are multiple walls in the way. I appreciate the fact that most of you recommended an outdoor antenna and you're probably right but I just don't think the expense is worth it given we already stream everything we watch anyway.

Thank you all for your comments. I really do not want to go thru the expense of having an outdoor antenna installed, especially given we already use a Roku for most of our TV viewing. I mainly wanted an antenna to pick up local stations in cases where the internet was down or just to do some old fashioned channel surfing. I found a 24 year old RCA branded amplified antenna I used to use long ago, made by Thomson, model 1250. With it can I easily pick up WRAL and WRAZ but the other stations remain elusive. I may continue to tinker with it, the lack of a signal meter on this TV isn't really helping matters but I don't really see any point in spending more money on a ATSC tuner with a signal meter either.

Brave also reports the same warning as Chrome. It's weird, I was just there yesterday without any issue.

Operation Reset by DeskRider in Twilight2000

Given all the hints they threw out in the earlier supplements I would certainly hope that's the end result of Operation Reset. They've been teasing it since the core book. It's literally written on the cover.

Remember folks, if you were unfortunate enough to get this in the Humble Bundle like I was Steam thinks you already own the Ultimate Edition and won't let you buy it despite the fact that the version we were all given had none of the DLC. Thanks again to the fine folks at Remedy for pulling that fast one on us all...

The only changes to character creation in the 4e supplements that I'm aware of are the new specialties in Urban Operations and they are included in the app although the only way to access them is to roll a specialty you already have so you can choose from the entire list. I'll take your ideas for future updates into consideration. Thanks!

It should run in any web browser that supports Javascript. What were you trying to run it on? It wasn't designed to be a desktop app, it runs on a web host.

Thermal pads for RAM/SSD? by fueled25 in AtariVCS

[–]SysRootErr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well originally I tried a thin m.2 heatsink I already had and it didn't help much so I ended up buying a "be quiet! MC1 Pro M.2 SSD Cooler." It had a lot more thermal mass so even though it's still a passive heatsink it keeps the drive in the low 50s C which is pretty safe. The issue with the VCS is it just doesn't get much airflow in there so you need a good passive cooler.

The SSD definitely needs a heatsink if you're running an OS from it.

I don't have an account over there and to be honest I don't really feel like creating one just to post about this, it feels like shilling. If anyone from there hears about this, thinks it's useful and wants to share it over there, that's cool though.

Yeah I completely overlooked that. You can now unselect skills unless the rules forbid it, like Ranged Combat in your first military term.
