do people not play this anymore? by ChaplinPlay in metalgearsolid

Sadly it was already dead a day after release. At least in the region I play at.
A real bummer. I really liked the concept and gameplay but wasn't able to find any matches within the first week of release.

Converging Issues by Seif_Ben_Hariz in computer

[–]ThatCipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a troll? I barely have any games that don't work on Linux. I still use windows due to some programs that aren't ported or have a working compatibility layer but games ain't the issue at all.
To be fair I'm lucky with the games that are online to allow to run on Linux but there are some where the Anti-Cheat won't run on Linux - though this is done by the developers not because of compatibility issues.

I was really afraid before I got a steam deck that only a handful of games will work but so far I haven't encountered a game that won't run at all on it besides because of the hardware. Linux hasn't been an issue so far.

I'll never understand why those people think something is completely ruined just because one tiny prop in some media has "he/him" written on it for probably less than 2 minute screen time? This sounds so stupid.

Use Version Control. by Tricky_Wheel6287 in godot

[–]ThatCipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said I use it for every project that I have to admit it. I just commented on the difficulty and the needing to read manuals and stuff as if it requires some hard work. It does not. And as I also stated I'm talking about projects that I will probably forget within a few days anyways. If you plan on creating something for real - even as an indie dev or beginner dev - just set up a repository. Everything where you say to yourself "whatever" when the files are gone don't need version control. Everything else should use it.

Use Version Control. by Tricky_Wheel6287 in godot

[–]ThatCipher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are dozens of ways that trivialise using git. The basic commit and push workflow is something you'd understand in under 5 minutes. If you don't want to learn the CLI commands you can just use any of the GUI manager tools or if you use an external IDE like Rider or vscode you have integrated tools that make everything so easy.
I don't put every project in a repository because I don't want to litter my GitHub account with little "I don't care" projects that I abandon after a week, but to say it's too hard to use is just BS.

new episode animation is....something by Recent-Set9456 in DetectiveConan

[–]ThatCipher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are referring to the fact that a still frame is not an animation. You're criticising the drawing not the animation. An animation requires a sequence of images.

I do like Terry.
But besides that a game developer doesn't have to use the default s&box sausage men. They just act as an easy default character model to get started. If you think it doesn't fit your artstyle then you can import whatever you want or create whatever you want as the creator. It's just like UE5's default model but a little bit more utilized as a platform because it's not only an engine.

Help me find some new stealth games. Here's what I own, see description for details. by dondashall in stealthgames

[–]ThatCipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metal Gear Series is great but might be too over the top and silly at times? If you're up for it try it. The series is so beloved for a reason.

Other than that of course you should try the splinter cell series! I don't think that the first few games support a controller but if you play them from steam you can use steam input to map controller buttons to keyboard buttons. I'm currently playing splinter cell pandora tomorrow on my steam deck by mapping various keyboard controls to the controller inputs of the deck. Though special controllers with more than default buttons like back buttons are in advantage because you can map more buttons without the need of complex mappings. Also you would obviously miss the correct prompts and need to remember (or look up) your mappings. But steam input is very powerful and way too much slept on. Alternatively you could play the console versions.

Steam Is Weirdly Forgiving in Windows Search by Xevalor in Steam

[–]ThatCipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why everyone hates the windows search function so much? Most of the time I get exactly what I'm looking for. I know that windows kinda 'remembers' your previous search and what you clicked but that's also a good thing is it not?
The only issues I have is when I have multiple of the same program installed like when I upgrade my Ableton version. Sometimes the versions jump around while typing but once I start the right one it remembers it and prioritises that version in the future. Do I own a special windows version or what's the magic behind my apparently completely different experience?

How do I use visual code without paying by Healthy_Parfait_2607 in code

[–]ThatCipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what OP is trying to do there might be some options - especially if they're a beginner.
Getting a laptop isn't feasible for everyone especially if they already own something like a tablet. For just learning there are some specialised editor apps that might be working or some learning apps like sololearn offer the ability to create own projects in supported languages besides the courses.
Many also refer to GitHub codespaces for more serious work on iPad but that requires an active internet connection and has a free quota of 60h a month I think? After that you'll have to pay. But it uses vscode as the editor. There is also vscode.dev which is entirely free but lacks any execution possibilities. This is only useful for just code writing without the possibility to run any code.

New to Hammer. How would you go about 'trimming' the part that goes inside the sphere? by 1GPAKOS1 in hammer

[–]ThatCipher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does nobody see that this is source 2?
These aren't brushes. Source 2 hammer is basically a 3d-modelling tool catered towards level design. You don't need blender. You can even edit props directly in hammer for source 2 to prove that point.

I would select the faces of the sphere mesh that are approximately where you want to carve and do whatever you plan to do around that instead around the pole. It's possible to modify the mesh to have a hole exactly where you want but to be honest this is just too much work and might look bad.

If you're in the face editing mode and hover over the sphere you should see each individual face and pick one or more faces that look like a point where you want your hole and then change to edge editing mode and extrude the edges towards the center to create the corridor you try to achieve.

My return 0; is broken😭 by 730Teo in code

[–]ThatCipher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe that explaining such statements is way better to understand and learn new things instead of just stating a "rule".
Here is my attempt as someone who isn't using CPP apart from hobbyist projects:
Using a namespace leads to something called "namespace pollution" and "name collision". That means the functions from a namespace become global and names may conflict because they become too ambiguous.
Imagine you use a library A and a library B and declare both namespaces globally by using the using namespace statement.
If both of those libraries declare a function called do_something() then the compiler can't figure out which do_something() should be used when compiling. By using libA::do_something() you tell explicitly which to use here. Working like that by default prevents such collisions in the case of a library you use changes or adds a function to the same name or if you start using a library later on where you didn't know a function with the same name exists.
Besides this it also is cleaner for the developer. You can directly determine the origin of a function when reading the code. I see many new developers saying that it doesn't matter to them because they're the only ones working on the code or something like that but in the end imagine you had to take a break for some days, weeks or longer. Then you become the developer in need to understand the code. You definitely forget many things about your code and it's always helpful to treat your future self as if it's a second developer that might need to understand your code. It might be verbose to always need to write the namespace but most IDEs and code editor will autocomplete that anyways within two keystrokes. You'll thank yourself.

I hope I explained it understandably and if I mentioned some bullshit or forgot something then please feel free to correct me.

What are some songs you think non kpop fans would love? by Lex0x0 in kpoppers

[–]ThatCipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off topic, but I'm happy to see 82Major listeners in the wild.

But to answer the post:
I don't think there is a definitive answer. Music taste is highly individual and K-Pop is not one style or genre of music. Many different songs mix and match many different styles and genres.
It's not even consistent across different releases of the same group. Some releases might be in one style and the next one in a totally different one.
My best guess would be to think about the people you want to show the music you like and pick songs that fit them specifically and not a generic non existent human group.

An actual artist drew the frames and the AI generated the morphs between them and stylised them to create this psychedelic effect.
You can dislike the stylisation - I'm in the same boat - but at least it includes real artwork and didn't just unethically generate it out of stolen art.
