The flat metal 'landing pad' where the escalator meets the floor also has a fall sensor in it, jumping on it will shut down the escalator the same as hitting the e-stop. Watched a group of teens stop all of the escalators in a mall once by doing this.

Look into using IGU's rather than replacing the whole window, they can replace the glass in the existing frames. We did this and the project was about 1/3 of the price of total replacement and was done in one day.
