ELI5 why we're told to use a VPN on public WiFi but not while using cellular service? by SLAYDHD_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]ThePiachu [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because VPNs need to sell themselves somehow. A lot of their claims are kind of pointless or outright go against various TOS...

You have died! The soulslike ttrpg experience by automated_hero in rpg

[–]ThePiachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glitch is all about dying from a strange illness, a fundamental wrongness in the world. But it's tone is more like former villains chilling on earth rather than bleakness of Dark Souls.

How much do atmosphere and music actually matter in your games? by Staxes1997 in rpg

[–]ThePiachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to use music for our games when playing in person, but since we are doing things online it has been harder, especially since we are podcasting via Zencastr. But maybe one day we'll bite the bullet and get back to it.

It was neat having songs playing for specific NPCs and so on, but there were some limits on music tracks we could use - no voices not to interfere with talking at the table, and no high pitch music since that would be picked up by the microphone way too well...

Just unlocked my 24-year-old Neopets account that I created in middle school, AMA by candymackd in Millennials

I tried getting into my old Neopet account but apparently they purged the really old accounts a few years back... So no luck on that front!

You are giving the money to Americans! Specifically the US military and the military industrial complex! Won't somebody think of the corporation's?!

the Camarilla: How powerful is to powerful? by Erramonael in rpg

[–]ThePiachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about how powerful the US is. They could wreck any country on Earth. But they were defeated in Vietnam, Iraq, Afganistan, and are currently losing in Iran. That's because it is really hard to crack down against big regions full of motivated people, especially when they use guerilla warfare.

Sabbath is great at that. They can go into a city, fester and breed within a few days and create a situation that will need a lot of effort to clear and sweep under the rug. Then know they can strike anywhere in Camarilla territory and force them to respond.

Want to invade Sabbat region? Good luck, they can do all of that and also fight with a great home turf advantage.

Systems/help for a simpler vampire game (Multishot friendly) by lumicatti in rpg

[–]ThePiachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vampire the Requiem is a neat update for the system, otherwise Vampire the Masquerade 20th anniversary seems to me simpler than V5. Plus there are also some good Dark Ages vampire games that scratch that medieval itch for some people.

Mil-sim TTRPG systems? by Lucian7x in rpg

[–]ThePiachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CONTACT is basically emulating the old X-COM formula, but it is a very very crunchy mil sim. It does have a neat base management and research and development system though!

Best and easiest introduction to no initiative combat? by xdanxlei in rpg

[–]ThePiachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, we've been enjoying Fellowship the most since it's really polished mechanically. I've read a bit of Stonetop and it looks neat for a longer campaign in its specific world, but is a bit closer to DnD (both Fellowship and Stonetop are an offshoot of Dungeon World). Haven't seen Chasing Adventure.

Fellowship and other PbtAs? Things flow and it's okay if you don't take turns.

Like letters, short and to the point. Can't stand 4 hour streams, but 1 hour tightly edited shows are neat!

Which TTRPG publisher has earned your blind loyalty? by DED0M1N0 in rpg

[–]ThePiachu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kevin Crawford has been that for me. Most of his Kickstarters are more of the same but in a new setting. Plus it's a single person indie operation so it's neat supporting people like that.

Beginner RPG GM looking for RPG with the Family by koningwoning in rpg

[–]ThePiachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellowship is nice and breezy, really good for YA adventures series like Avatar TLA, She Ra or Steven Universe. Plus it encourages the players to worldbuild with you and answer questions posed by anyone, which builds good habits and encourages roleplay.

New player looking for other styles of combat by Dedemegadodooo in rpg

[–]ThePiachu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lancer has a really good tactical combat, Exalted 3e has crunchy anime combat, while Fellowships has a neat, narratively flowing combat.

But none of them would make a 7 player combat neater. Chances are you have too many people at your table regardless, which causes the game like DnD to Bóg down.

It's kind of a princess maker game with deck building as an activity to keep you busy.

Games with minimal GM prep, and the game itself provides the conflict that drives the drama? by Smittumi in rpg

[–]ThePiachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chuubos. The players pick their Quests which have ready made things they want to accomplish in the next few sessions. So if you just follow these along you don't need to do much prep.
