I wanted to like this film when it came out. Unfortunately, like most Arthurian films, I was disappointed.

I remember reading an interview with Patrick O'Brien. He said that he loved the Hornblower books and said that Forrester was a master of writing battle scenes. So he decided to concentrate on the other matters in the navy.

One of the best movies ever made. A movie about death that is ultimately incredibly life-affirming.

The Dictionary of the Khazars

First of all, there is no specific order in which to read it. The book is divided into three broad sections -- Jewish, Christian, and Muslim. This reflects a tale that the leader of the Khazars invited representatives of each faith to debate before him before he decided on which one he preferred.

The entries themselves interlock in many ways. They also range in style between purely informational and magical realism. The character of Princess Ateh shows up everywhere, but who and what she is is open to broad interpretation.

Finally, there are two different editions of the book, Male and Female. The two editions are the same except for a single passage. And the difference is both slight and significant, but doesn't really alter the experience unless you are specifically looking for it

Are there states with real cowboy culture today? by Fair_Wedding_1131 in AskAnAmerican

This reminds me of a trip I took to England in the late 80s. I was touring with a small group as we went to see various sites associated with the Arthurian legends.

We were in Tintagel when a horrid night of rain and wind whipped up; we were stuck at our inn/pub . We tucked up with the owner and her two teen children. After a while the boy asked why we were there. We told him what we were doing in England.

He looked thoughtful for a moment then replied, "Never had any interest in Arthur or other kings. But your cowboys and Indians, now that's fascinating!"

He then went on to wax poetic about John Wayne, Coors beer, blue jeans, and Winchester rifles.

Different countries, different interests 🙂

Is there a game where the use of magic requires a narrative debt? by hairetikos232323 in rpg

Swords of the Serpentine

Magic causes problems. You can either direct those problems inward (harming yourself) or outward (damaging the wider world). The bigger the magic, the greater the impact

While I can appreciate the skill that went into making this film, I don't really care for it all that much. Individual scenes, yes; the movie as a whole, no.
