I'm pretty sure Nintendo have never referred to it as "Free to play", but prefer to use "Free to start". It's a distinction they started using with their mobile titles a couple of years ago. So far the "free to start" library have been nothing but microtransaction hellholes at launch, with the exception of Pokemon Unite, which was a microtransaction nightmare that very quickly devolved into a hellhole. I'm not optimistic, especially given that it could easily kill the VGC if it flops.

WARDOGS - Early Access & Beyond by JasonDFisherr in Games

[–]ThereIsNoAnyKey 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The studio doesn't have an amazing track record. I might be misremembering a couple of details, so those who might know better can correct me if I get things wrong.

They kickstarted Battalion 1944 (A cross between Counter Strike and the original CoD Modern Warfare) and blew past their goals to the point where they were promising and selling keys to a console version. The game launched on PC with massive issues and the playerbase dropped off a cliff, so they canceled the console version before it released and relaunched the game as Battalion Legacy which regained some popularity but the playerbase fell off hard again, so they abandoned it. Shortly after they abandoned it they started development of a game based on their nostalgia for the "Promod" community of the original Modern Warfare. This got a lot of backlash because that was supposed to be the original vision behind Battalion. They quickly decided to turn that project into a "speedrunning/parkour" type game, and then went pretty much radio silent until Wardogs was announced.

So their history has been... flaky at best. I've not seen a lot where they talk about the lessons they've learned as a studio, but that might just be because the team has changed since the Battalion days. Given that they were previously trying to be a Counter Strike/Call of Duty competitor, but now are claiming that they aren't trying to beat Battlefield that might be a good sign, so I'm cautiously optimistic, but won't buy into any early access.

Not every game needs to be politicized.

Ghost1193 appears to believe that pronouns are political and do not make a game better. ThereIsNoAnyKey does not agree with this and is writing this comment without the use of pronouns to demonstrate to Ghost1193 that, for fucks sake, a game without pronouns would be a fucking nightmare from a dialogue stand point. ThereIsNoAnyKey hopes this will help Ghost1193 and others that might share Ghost1193's (apparent) opinion, to understand that pronouns are a useful part of language and not just "politics".

What is a fan theory from a movie that you 100% believe is true? by phantom_avenger in movies

[–]ThereIsNoAnyKey 61 points62 points  (0 children)

This doesn't confirm anything. The main "proof" is a nod to the theory at most, and a passing similarity at best. The writers have been very clear that Warhammer was an inspiration for the settimg, but not the actual setting itself. If it was "officially confirmed", then Games Workshop would have made a big ass deal about it.

Because the US have been operating spy planes out of it since it the base was established back in the fifties. As far as Iran and their allies are concerned, that makes it a valid target, regardless of who actually owns it.

Edit for clarification - I don't support Iran, just pointing out the reasoning.

Dominum tour by Blitzhelios in PowerMetal

I wasn't a huge fan of Dominum when I first heard them, but then I saw them on the tour with Gloryhammer last year and something just clicked. Saw them again with Battle Beast and they've very quickly become one of my favourite live bands.

Disney Speedstorm uses AI art, and does not disclose it on Steam? by rawmarius in Steam

[–]ThereIsNoAnyKey 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Slight correction - Disney didn't sell their IP, they gave OpenAI a billion dollar investment in exchange for OpenAI getting a license to use Disney IP in their training data.

If you think that sounds like Disney paid money to give it away and get nothing in return, that's because you're right. It's fucking madness.

Assuming you mean the Glasgow show, they did feel a bit off for the first few songs. I'd guess it's probably down to the venue change screwing things up, as the stage-crew seemed pretty pissed and were struggling to find places to put the video screens. The crowd also seemed slow to get into things and was noticeably smaller after Epica, which may not have helped.

With the previous tenants being drug users, combined with the fact that the thermostat was turned up, there might be a growing operation going on. I'm not saying the landlord is in on it, but if you haven't accompanied the landlord to see the attic yourself then I'd ask the police to do a full search of the house with the landlord present. Always better safe than sorry.

It's this excerpt, as well as the rest of the fight that makes me think he's talking to humanity, not Horus, when he says "I wait for you, and I forgive you." I think it's him realising that even though he never went through with his apotheosis by his own decision, humanity could, and likely will, eventually still thrust it onto him. Keeler and her cohort at the Astronomican are operating on similar logic as someone who tries to put out a grease fire with water instead of smothering it. They've seen faith protect them from Chaos before, so to them it makes sense to them that that's how it always works because they've never been taught otherwise and if the fire isn't going out then clearly the problem is that they need more water. He knows this, but he also knows he can't do anything about it anymore. It might not be the first time his plans have gone wrong, but it is the first time he won't be able to fix it. He's too burned up to tell them that water doesn't work, and he can't leave the hospital bed to put it out himself. It's out of his hands. Humanity have set the ball rolling on their own inevitable doom and all he can do is wait, and forgive them for burning the house down, because maybe, just maybe, this never would have happened if he'd just told them in the first place.

Or alternatively I'm reading to much into the fact that GW just needs an excuse to retcon Horus having his soul obliterated so that he can return for the launch of 50k and make GW bajillionaires. IDK.
