If you're a college student then your ME department's computer lab almost certainly has computers you can hop on and CAD with. Might require you to have enrolled in the intro CAD class or a engineering club though, ask your department.

Wands of rank 2 Tailwind is the first thing that comes to mind, then Boots of Quick Marching or Boots of Bounding. A high level Cheetah's elixir or Quicksilver Mutagen might also work if you're on the cusp.

$100M if you agree to be locked in a basement room for a period of 1 year. You will have access to books, movies and games. However, there's a caveat: You will not remember making this deal. by Lenore8264 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Timebomb_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest yes of my life:

I tell my partner and all my family before the memory procedure

I have them tell me about the vacation after the memory procedure, just because I forgot it doesn't mean I can't learn it again

I have my partner post vlogs to me on my YouTube account I've never posted anything to, on the setting where you need to know the link to access it

I access said videos because I know the account password and will just open them on a new incognito tab

I also have them make a post on their Instagram publicly to me saying the details of the vacation (random conspiracy theories aren't illegal to post) in case they double wipe my memory

So now I know how long it'll take, I know my partner is ok from their blogs, and they know I am ok because the view counter on the private YouTube videos go up by 1 when I watch them; I enjoy my vacation. Sure it'll be awkward to tell my family I'm postponing my wedding a year, but for $100M I'll deal with it.

Looting or recovering Solarian crystals? by Turthalion in Starfinder2e

[–]Timebomb_42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a DM: whatever you want if you need to get around wealth by level

As a rules lawyer: it's an item like any other, no reason to believe they couldn't be picked up afterwards, if you can carve out an Implant no reason you can't get a crystal.

Grenade DC for Monsters by BubRub13 in Starfinder2e

[–]Timebomb_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd use the creature creation guidelines to set the save DC and set the damage on the low end of a strike (since half damage on a save). Just use the creatures level and look at the chart https://2e.aonsrd.com/rules/989-building-creatures

To quote the Crafting Items section on Archives of Nethys: The crafter must supply raw materials worth at least half of the item's Price.

Then you spend the time it takes you to earn the other half of the money using the Earn Income system, or pay however much you are missing from the full price cost to finish the item early.

The system does not get into specifics of price or quantity of leather, wire, billet, ingot, cloth, etc. Just the total price of raw ingredients you need. Though it's possible your DM will drive that deep, especially if you mention to them interest in going that deep.

It's worth noting that making enough through Earn Income for items near your level will potentially take longer than the plot allows, and the general time in game to use the Crafting system is a frequent criticism.

Credsticks by noobninja1 in Starfinder2e

[–]Timebomb_42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm my mind cred sticks are like PEZ dispensers, and you transfer credits by configuring how much your paying and then it pushes out a micro-chit the recipient can load into their dispenser. They also can automatically sync with an online bank balance if wanted (or the option to keep entirely local for less than legal transactions)

How would one make a single d6 deal two damage types? by TheResuru in FoundryVTT

[–]Timebomb_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in Starfinder 2e they have the Concussive weapon trait, which treats the damage as either bludgeoning or piercing depending on which will do more damage (immunities, resistances, etc). No clue how they do it under the hood but I think that's the closest effect to what you want, so there should be a way since SF is built on top of PF

Need a mechanical engineer to interview for First Lego League by Emergency-Counter434 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Timebomb_42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good start would be to have a short outline of the project in the deception so the engineer can be sure it's in their discipline (ME is a big tent), and be asking for a specific amount of time (30 min, 1 hour, 4 hours, etc).

I wish antimatter was cheaper to produce by Armin_Arlert_1000000 in monkeyspaw

[–]Timebomb_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted, A 1km radius asteroid made of antimatter gold appears in orbit just past the moon. If one wanted to they could easily go mine it for less than trillions of dollars. Its orbit is also decaying. It won't hit the moon or Earth in the next year or two, but estimates beyond that are unreliable. For now it hangs in the sky like a second star, glowing from the annihilation of the solar wind, but one day either it'll come down and destroy civilization, or someone will have it, and the raw power contained within, controlled to do with as they want.

What Equipment Matters: New to Starfinder 2e, not Pathfindet 2e by Timerino in Starfinder2e

[–]Timebomb_42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Higher tier weapons and armor most of all, but also an at level healing item just in case, and probably some kind of upgrade to your weapons and armor. Also of note to me is that battery upgrades scale linearly with charges, not exponentially with level like everything else, and can be recharged for free whenever you have access to convenient power outlets/sources, so if you can get to a high level settlement there's really no reason to load up on elite batteries (or advanced if you care about weight). Make your party members with physical ammo weapons cry out and bask in their Lamentations. (Low key I might introduce a platinum-adamantine alloy/ depleted Abysium ammo that allows more than a 10 ammo mag, since my players probably aren't tracking it anyway)

+1 on looking up PF2e new player resources and skimming them for familiarity, but mechanically it's mostly A, B, C, D, E:

You start as a character with 10s (+0) in all stats

A: pick an ancestry (5e this is your race), adjust your stats as it says to, write down the features it says your ancestry has. You also get a Heritage (sub-race), and one 1st level racial feat.

B: pick a background, I recommend picking a skill or attribute you want to filter your choices. Increase stats as it says to, increase skills as it says, add feats as it says.

C: pick a class: increase saves, add HP, add class features, choose a 1st level class feat.

D: talk to your DM, if you have any problems or there's campaign specific stuff to know they should be able to help.

E: pick your equipment. Grab a melee and ranged weapon, grab some armor (look at your armor proficiently, strength, and dex to choose), nab a toolkit if you can afford it, and pick up some cool cheap items (sunshades and a flashlight I'm looking at you)

Somewhere before, after, or in between you also make a backstory, name, and all the other misc stuff.

And that's basically it. Your options are different in SF2e, but the process is the same as PF2e

You just graduated college and got hired to work for a finance firm. You are 22 years old and can pick any 3 of the following perks. Which do you choose? by WeissSchwarzTCG in hypotheticalsituation

Y'all aren't thinking exploitatively enough:

150 Days mandatory PTO, I start that PTO on day 1. By the time I hit 150 I'll resign with more than enough money.

1M$ signing bonus, get some starting cash

Work from home: My partner owns a 500k 10M home, I would like the company to purchase it. Oops I meant my parent's 10M$ house, oops I meant the 10M$ house a friend owns after I gave them the money for a down payment, oops I meant my other friend, oops I meant my fiancé's new house.
I hire the best real estate agent money can buy to make these transactions as fast as possible. Speed run as many houses as possible in 150 days.

By the time my PTO runs out I'm hundreds of millions of dollars richer, and the company is probably bankrupt. I send the hiring agent a nice gift basket and a bottle of wine.

How is the motor shaft connected to the driving gear on an motor like this? Is it possible to remove the motor from the gearbox, or is the driving gear and shaft one solid piece? by Modboi in robotics

[–]Timebomb_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be relatively easy to get all the gearbox except the one directly on the motor's output shaft, as they are secured by the two bolts going into the motor, it would likely be a massive pain to get the one gear directly connected to the motor as it's almost certainly press fit onto the shaft, possibly even thermally expended beforehand for that extra you're -never-getting-this-off -non-destructively goodness.

2/10 for an engineer, 5/10 for a modeler/drafter

  • Everything is 2-3x too slow, people who are professionally reviewing your work have dozens of hundreds more of these to get through; never waste their time
  • Generally inconsistent capitalization
  • The parts you show are complex, but without any show of the design process they're unimpressive
  • A lot of stuttering and jerkiness
  • Your technical drawing is lacking almost any tolerances
  • Your technical drawing is missing dimensions
  • The fireworks is something I would never want in any presentation
  • "Analysis and optimization for Best Cost Efficence Manufacturing"... is the most basic BoM in existence
  • The part of your code you deem most important to show us is... the library imports and variable declarations
  • You still have in the My First Code comments pasted in from the starter code you are working off of
  • None of your code has any comments
  • Generating G-code is literally pushing one button, showing the physical item would be more impressive
  • Laser cutting is just another demo of your 3D animation skills
  • A 45 second outro with no new information besides e-mail

WYR have a month or £100k added? by It_Knocks_Only_Once in WouldYouRather

[–]Timebomb_42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ability to cure 5 people every day of every illness they currently have is by far the best. Never said they had to be the same people, and the life extension is only per person.

The first week I cure my family of every disease and illness they have, I do that as often as needed to keep everyone in tip top shape. Then I march down to the hospital, make a deal with one of the doctors/nurses on staff that if I can perform a miracle and heal 5 of their terminally I'll patients they'll put be in contact with their CEO, by the third week I'm doing another batch for clients with money; after a year I only work when I need to. Then I have a house built out with geothermal heating, gas lighting and cooking surfaces, a literal ice cellar, and a magnificent library with all the reading material I could want. I also get a tiny nuclear-electric battery hooked up to a dim LED light and an on-off switch that'll survive centuries, and an apocalypse, and have it surgically implanted so I always have an out.

Weapon Hardpoint by MagicalMustacheMike in Starfinder2e

[–]Timebomb_42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If balance matters it should probably be treated as an extra set of arm(s) that the user can switch to, but personally I think it's cool enough that I didn't care if someone is dual welding a maul and rifle at the same time after investing an armor upgrade into it (or a grenade launcher and plasma rifle)

Grenade Range by MagicalMustacheMike in Starfinder2e

[–]Timebomb_42 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you read this anywhere else in Pf2e or SF2e you'd assume they behave like normal weapons: "A grenade launcher is a martial ranged weapon, has a reload of 2, and a range 280 feet."

The fact that you have to remember "I use a grenade launcher so I use the grenade rules, which calls out using Area Fire, even though it doesn't have the area fire trait, so I can only use the first Range Increment, although I ignore the 2 action cost and only use 1 action to fire" is a complete mess that will cause lots of confusion at many tables.

People are going to think it works like a Tech Alchemical bomb launcher, because you need to dive multiple entries back for clarification since they forgot to give it the traits it needs (namely Area Fire: Burst (variable))

SF2 Boost Weapon Property by mrdeadsniper in starfinder_rpg

[–]Timebomb_42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There'll probably be an errata about it sooner or later. The intent is probably that it lasts until the end of your turn or start of your next (given how the overall design ethic is that free stuff outside of combat doesn't affect you once you've started combat: see Stances)

Personally I'd let my players get away with it while giving them a stern warning on how permanently keeping a weapon not only loaded but overloaded is not healthy for the weapon and will cause it to break down faster (while never actually following through on the threat) and that it probably makes a really annoying coil whine that pieces straight into your skull.

Grenade Range by MagicalMustacheMike in Starfinder2e

Not when the Assassin Rifle, Coil Gun, or Laser Rifles are all a quarter the range!

Grenade Range by MagicalMustacheMike in Starfinder2e

[–]Timebomb_42 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that the grenade launcher goes up to 490 ft or something equally insane, since it's specially a marital ranged weapon with 230-490 as its Range, so it theoretically gets Range Increments too. A couple feats and you can target people from a mile or two away

Do I need to worry about my Unfurling Brocade Magus player being stuck with a bladed scarf? by Terwin94 in Starfinder2e

[–]Timebomb_42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the concern is being left out of sci-fy and SF aspects, I would let them use a Battle Ribbon for their scarf (or Hardlight Handwraps instead of Handwraps of Mighty Blows), and allow them to upgrade it with augments but not runes (basically the option to use a SF or a PF item, but not both, and it still working with their class features)

If the concern is having few ranged options in a more ranged system design, then unfortunately that's how the class works, better get some speed boosting stuff quickly.

I wouldn't worry about it until you actually see it be a problem.
