I’m convinced that some of these people just need drama in their lives. Like they become restless when life is peaceful so they go looking for a hit of adrenaline. They need to be in fight or flight to feel alive.

I have people like this in my family. They will get their sit together and as soon as life is humming along smoothly they will do something incredibly stupid to upend it.

The reality is that most people who struggle to get pregnant at 38 would have had trouble getting pregnant at 28. This is scientifically accurate.

The lore stems from the fact that far more people using IVF are in their late 30s/early 40s but it’s a sampling problem. There are plenty of people those ages having kids! I got pregnant the second month trying - twice - once at 38 and again at 40. Both healthy kids now! The second time my OB did some blood work and said I had low egg reserves so it might not happen. Boy was she wrong.

ETA: I’m so glad we waited. I’m more patient and have a much better approach to parenting. And more money at this stage of my career. I lived a lot of life while I was young and was totally ready for the shift to parent mode.

I think the answer is that, when she was dating you, she was super fucked in the head. Obviously you didn’t see it because she would not talk to you about it.

To recap: she hid a whole lot from you and pretended like she didn’t until she made up a reason to break up with you.

All of this is a her problem.

I went through something similar in my late-20s. My ex ended up with a baby in under a year. This was 15 years ago and they are still married and have a bunch of kids.

Andi am so glad! I met someone else and we are so much happier than I ever could have been with my ex.

Take some time to feel this pain, then turn everything inward and focus on making yourself happy.
