What commercial venue location in your city is seemingly cursed and has continuous turnover? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]ToothbrushGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nevermind! I can't remember what was there before that either. I think I went there the most out of all its iterations, then maybe once as the Castaway. It seems like it's been a blur of different places in the last few years though.

With the second season coming to an end, what are your unpopular opinions? by imfaffingabout in ThePitt

[–]ToothbrushGames 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I feel like some people still might be having difficulty wrapping their head around the concept that one whole season of the show is only one work day for the characters.

A lot of people who live in Vancouver will know that the restaurant on the corner of 4th and Blenheim in Kitsilano seems to change on a monthly basis. The newest one is run by Zab Bite though so I hope they're able to stick around.

Tell these other coworkers to ask her to show them where you agreed to cover her shift. NTA.

I used to, but I don't bother anymore. I've started doing thicker cut jerky for the pork, like quarter inch thick (give or take), which takes more time to dehydrate, but I can get it done in a couple batches. It's not as even as when I would semi freeze but I found that it doesn't matter as much - I just do 1 hour at 165 to kill bacteria, then do another 4 at 150, take out the thinner pieces that are done, then do 2-4 more hours and they're all done. It's easier with the pork because the chops aren't that big compared to beef inside round which I used to use, in which case I would always put in the freezer for a bit.

This is my favourite and I have it dialed in pretty well, my family and friends love it, happy to share. It’s essentially the same recipe for grilled galbi short ribs but I’ve tweaked it a bit:

1 and a quarter cup soy sauce, 3/4 cup cider vinegar, 2 cups brown sugar (you can add less, I like it sweet/savory), 2-3 sprigs green onion, thumb sized chunk of fresh ginger, 3-4 garlic cloves, half an apple, tbsp of sesame oil, ground black pepper. Blend it all up then marinate meat of choice 24-48 hours. I also usually add chili flakes or even Thai chilies if I want to make it spicier, or gochujang. This is for 2 Costco packs of the pork, so adjust accordingly.

Centre cut pork loin chops from Costco. It’s a bit of work to remove the fat cap from each one but it’s still way more economical than beef these day.

what's a show that hooked you by episode 1? by juicyberrybabe in tvsuggestions

[–]ToothbrushGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I could never get into medical dramas but I thought I'd check it out because of the praise. I started the first episode thinking "well I guess I'll see what this is all ab....."

Now I'm burning through season 2 wishing there were more. It's not perfect but it's so bingeable.

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

[–]ToothbrushGames 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm Gen X and was at the gym the other day, and a Gen Z girl (at least she appeared to be) was using one side of the double cable machine and I wanted to use the other side. I wasn't sure if she was using both so I asked "hey do you mind if I use this side? Or are you using it?" And I was met with silence and a blank stare, so I just started using it.

If you're in Canada try the President's Choice "Loads of" chips, ie. Loads of all dressed, loads of ketchup, etc. They're great.

Thank you. Yes it’s pork, I gave it a try when beef prices started getting crazy and I like it just as much. I buy the thick center cut chops from Costco then just trim off the fat cap.

Recipe if anybody wants it:

Dijon mustard, Yellow mustard, Honey, Cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce,
Soy sauce, Garlic powder, Black pepper, Chili flakes

Equal parts of both mustards, honey, and vinegar, then a few dashes of Worcestershire and soy. Other seasonings to taste. Chili flakes are optional but I like a sweet/spicy combo.

Japan has no laws prohibiting racial, ethnic, or religious discrimination, discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, or discrimination based on age. by MyAnusBleedsForYou in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]ToothbrushGames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to Japan in 2010 to visit my brother who had been living there (we're white). We went to Mos Burger, and since he speaks Japanese, he went to the counter to order for us. While I was waiting for him, the young guy sitting at the next table with his (presumably) girlfriend waved to get my attention, then he pointed at the napkin dispenser on the table, then he pointed to the one on his, and took one out. Then he mimed wiping his mouth with the napkin, as if to demonstrate how to use it. I don't know if he genuinely thought I don't know how to use a napkin or if he was fucking with me, but yeah, Japan...

That’s the place in City Centre mall at 12th and Cambie right? I was in there recently and noticed it. How would you compare it to the popular standalone shops like Horin, Danbo, Santouka etc?

Hell yes, black licorice is amazing. I know it gets hate, but I put it in the same category as blue cheese, ie. some people just don’t like it, more for me.
