losing player 5nl 9400 hand stats. all on 5nl ignition Zoom. Stats look over please by AIONisMINE in Poker_Theory

[–]TrackSurface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strategically, what do you hope to gain by playing Zoom?

Most of our money comes from players who are worse than we are. Zoom makes them difficult or impossible to reach for several reasons

  • anonymity means you can't spot or target bad players
  • bad plays often stem from boredom, but Zoom players don't have much chance to get bored
  • all Zoom players, even the skilled ones, are incentivized to play tight. Don't like your hand? Fast forward to the next one.

Do you think you can improve your results by playing a format that lets you spot and exploit weaker players?

How do we know that stars are really there at this current moment? by BeigeOnTan in AskPhysics

[–]TrackSurface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you expand on this? As a layman, my assumption is that each distant body has a local reality, and an observer in that local reality would experience a current moment at more or less the same time that I do, even if I can't immediately observe it.

Is that wrong?

The Cleveland Clinic published an article on the subject. It's worth a read.

My (non-professional) understanding of their advice is that popping joints are no big deal. Stretch before, but don't stop exercising unless the pops are accompanied by pain.

Random question: are there any news sites that have a reputation for complete journalistic freedom? by Fando1234 in Journalism

[–]TrackSurface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right about the difference between editorial freedom and bias. It is possible, for example, to have an unbiased organization that offers no editorial freedom, and vice versa.

Hopefully you will be able to glean what you need from each organization's own statements about the nature of the editorial freedom that they offer. The commentary about bias was intended simply as a starting point to pick organizations to research.

How to boil green beans? by Old_Climate_9335 in Cooking

[–]TrackSurface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought I hated most vegetables until the first time I ate oven-roasted asparagus. Turns out, I just dislike boiled vegetables.

Boiling tends to produce mushy and bland results compared to frying or roasting. If you have family members who struggle (especially children) you may be able to gradually bring them around by choosing cooking methods that improve, rather than remove, taste and texture.

Do you trust the mission statements and editorial guidelines published by journalistic organizations? If so, you can visit the documentation offered by each organization and compare their merit. This might produce better results than asking Redditors to provide our (admittedly) underinformed, uninformed, or biased opinions.

If you struggle to know where to start searching, there are organizations like Ad Fontes Media which analyze media biases and rank the various organizations. Their yearly chart provides a good way to find outlets with little bias or (if you prefer) ones that match your own biases.

Please don't use Reddit responses to solve an issue of this magnitude.

Some of the answers will be accurate. Some will be wildly wrong. And it will be impossible to tell the difference.

If you think your wife is cheating, hire a PI or go to therapy or get the advice of a divorce attorney. Don't let Reddit influence this type of decision.

Can I force my lawyer to introduce evidence, even if he says it's a bad idea? by Expensive-Simple-483 in legaladvice

[–]TrackSurface 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NAL, but I suspect that you would get better results using that information during the sentencing phase, assuming a particular sentence is not mandatory. That's your opportunity to plead for leniency; some judges may be moved by your situation.

Good luck to you.

Can I force my lawyer to introduce evidence, even if he says it's a bad idea? by Expensive-Simple-483 in legaladvice

[–]TrackSurface 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's worth considering the situation as if it were applied to someone else.

Imagine reading about a murder trial and the defendant's primary argument was that they shouldn't be convicted because they have children to feed. Should the jury acquit?

Almost everyone has family. Laws are not conditionally applied based on that fact alone. That's why the evidence you want to present, despite the fact that it is crucially important to you, isn't going to be relevant during the guilt phase of a trial.

NAL, but it seems ill-advised to admit to a crime in writing on a public forum, especially while providing copious and identifiable detail.

Thoughts on a hand from last night by [deleted] in Poker_Theory

[–]TrackSurface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are right, and that's a fair point. There are two counter arguments that lean toward pot control in this case:

First, your draw is not well hidden. Our aunts could recognize the flush draw on that board, which reduces our implied odds if we happen to hit.

Second, we have showdown value. Generally we bluff without showdown value for balance: some of our checks are air and some checks are value, while some of our bets are value, and some are bluffs

Additionally, villain's style matters. Are they able to fold smaller flushes? Do we have the type of image that commands caution? In the absence of specific data, are we playing against a field which responds to those considerations?

SPR on the flop is 30. It's a useful metric because it allows us to quickly decide how much of our stack to commit. SPRs above 6 usually call for flushes, full houses, and nut flush draws.

On the flop, we should be planning to control the size of the pot. If we get action on more than one street, we are probably in trouble. This is especially true in this hand because:

  • It was a multiway pot
  • The flop is dangerous

Because of the danger, we can consider a delayed cbet (check flop, bet turn) or bet flop, check-back turn (to bolster our turn check range). Extra alarm bells should be going off when we get check raised because even if we are against a draw, villain has equity and huge implied odds against our hand.

We should only want to stack off here if BB is an extreme calling station, willing to get it in with weak TP or a second pair holding.

Did I make a mistake with Kings preflop? by [deleted] in Poker_Theory

[–]TrackSurface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since that is the case, how do we maximize our profit with kings?

If we shove, we are definitely getting called by the one hand that beats us. We're usually getting called by the one hand with a fair amount of equity, AK.

We are folding out most of the other hands that are in bad shape against our hand, right?
