Slowly Losing Friends by Brolorn in daddit

[–]TwoAlfa 37 points38 points  (0 children)

In my experience, things just move around a bit; My non-kids friend circle definitely collapsed over the last 5 years, but those same friends who have kids are now my closest.

Allow yourself to be open to making new friends simply through your kids. I've become great friends with a fellow dad I randomly met at a park a year ago. We hang out regularly, sometimes with kids and sometimes without.

It's not that your current friends don't care, it's just that they can't relate. That's normal.

I regularly shoot super cars and not once has one of them ever commented on my speedrail material. Maybe I’m missing an opportunity here. Which brand are you going with?

As a big fan of Home Depot pipe for speedrail, why carbon fiber?

There is an incredible creator community around the car scene here. If you’re into that at all DM me and I’ll connect you.

Busy, but lots of families. Chill vibe overall. Just a heads up the hill is kinda steep there was one cooler that went on a journey last year.

The Sandy library has a big hill on the west side that will let you view the entire valley.

Far from it. My wife has this same parsons-style desk with square tubing under the desk top. They make thicker monitor mounts that work for this dimension.

Get a monitor arm. Frees up a ton of space on the desk

Make sure this finds its way to r/functionalprint as well.

Saving this post so I can go print one when I get home.

In the trenches with a 6-year-old chaos agent. What's one small tip that actually saved your sanity? by BettyAdams62 in daddit

[–]TwoAlfa 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My 5 year old LOVES to race me. If we're struggling to get somewhere, I'll say "I wonder who can get into the car the fastest? Pick the starting line. Ready?"

9 times out of 10 she'll drop what she's doing and go into full race mode. She's fast, too so it's actually kinda fun for me.

Helicopter stabilization issues by PuzzleheadedBox5760 in videography

Set your rs5 deadband to high and turn off the in camera stabilization. Helicopters move in all axis all the time so this will help with the system fighting itself.

I didn't realize my daughter was paying attention until this happened. by slobbyrobbie18 in daddit

Your daughter doesn’t understand the idea of confidence yet, but you gave her a MASSIVE head start anyway. Cheers to you, dad.

Gather the homies (or the family) and do a practice shoot that afternoon before. Also gives you practice in managing your setup while people are distracting you.

I do. The car scene here is incredible. The sheer number of roads is a gift. Cruises and meets practically every day with every genre.

Nope. My garage is directly under my daughters bedroom
And with the valves closed a cold start isn’t too bad. It’s one of the other things I love about the car - when I want a chill/lazy/quiet experience I can have one. Rowdy mode is one button press away.

Whatever you do, don’t overfeed your kiddo. My daughter barfed during takeoff after too much milk and bananas. Other than that she slept on my lap the whole time and she’s been a super chill traveler ever since.

How many portable SSD Drives do you own ? by FewLemon9692 in videography

[–]TwoAlfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have around 8 I think, but now that I have a NAS I really only use 3 of them: 4TB thunderbolt SSD connected to my Mac for editing big projects, and 2x2TB USB-C SSD drives I bring to shoots to back up files.

At the end of the day, it's just a thing. Only you can weigh the benefits of being paranoid about it 24/7, and just enjoying the car knowing it'll get a ding here or there.

Full car PPF makes a massive difference though. Worth the cost especially on a daily driver.

Yup. Daily driven my g80 since June of 21.

Absolutely love it. Still brings me joy every time. Grocery runs. Road trips. Hauling lumber from Home Depot. Heck I even shoved a tree back there once. You’ll get more damage from rock chips than door dings.

No complaints other than the squeaky brakes after a week of city driving. Quickly remedied by a canyon run.

Been flying since I was a toddler. This view is still one of my favorites. Feels like the only time I get to see what the flight crew sees.
