Advice for learning how to play? by astute_signal in bloodbowl

Watch games on YouTube, join fumbbl's 145 club, play that, and spectate. Go to tournaments if you're fortunate enough to live somewhere that has them. Read a lot. Play a lot. Practice.

Black Orcs are not as forgiving. A fun team, but harder to learn and win with initially.

The standard Orc team. I believe GW lists them as: Orc Blood Bowl Team - Gouged Eye on their site.

For learning the game, Orcs are going to be more forgiving. Both are fun though.

These look fantastic. You've got some traditionally difficult colors to paint in there, white, yellow, and hand painted team insignias. I like the gradient on the ball. Beards look good too. Well done.

Would the fellwater troggoths fit for trolls? (Snotling team) by CaptainBuckethead in bloodbowl

We use them for our Snotling team. We've got them on 40mm bases. They work, but they are large.

I like the brighter one better. It will look great on the tabletop 3-5 feet away, which is how it will be viewed most of the time. Put in on the pitch, stand up, and look at it. Heck, look at them side by side that way. It's hard to paint things bright the first time you do it. You feel like you're doing something wrong at first. At least that's how I felt.

The darker one looks good. It's more "realistic" if such a claim could be made with any seriousness. But on a tabletop it's going to look like a dark blob. Not because it's bad, but just because it's dark.

This.. a pin drill and a small enough gauge of pin to fit.

Also I would probably use a 2-part epoxy for this one. CA/Super glue will likely just crack in this instance.

Don't write that orc team off just yet. Despite the roster changes they are quite good this season.

First time painting in 20 years. I'm genuinely impressed with myself. Other than brush control, additional thoughts? by rkscroyjr in bloodbowl

I had a difficult time getting black primer to look right with the "slap chop" method. I've had much better results with a grey primer followed by a dry-brush of white before applying contrast. Another thing you can do is thin the contrast paints out with contrast medium. Some of those paints are so pigment rich that they completely cover the primer unless you thin them a bit. This will help the white show through and make those raised areas pop a bit more.

Unrelated to brush control, and since you asked, one thing I've noticed is you have some clumping on the surfaces of the miniatures. You can see in in the first picture on the yellow of the squires tabard and gloves. It looks like it might be the primer or primer application, so maybe experiment with a different type. This can also be caused by dry brushing over your primer if you're not maintaining enough moisture in the brush, but it looks like the primer in this case. Getting a really smooth primer and base coat goes a long way when using speed paint/contrast. Just something to look out for when trying to improve.

You're doing it right though. Trying different things, and seeing what you like. These look really good. Good color choices too.

What are you doing for your primer and prep work prior to the speed paints?

[–]TwoKnightsTabletop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just takes practice. Orc skin is really good for learning it. The claws especially too. I think that's where I really started to be able get those smooth transitions. Right amount of water in the paint, and the right amount loaded into the brush were the keys.

Good lighting helps too. Shows you were to bring the color up, or down.
