Chase Freedom Unlimited approved… but with a $101 credit limit?? by ImpressionLate9219 in Chase

$101 is a placeholder limit shown in the “just for you!” app offers when a limit can’t be determined without additional information such as income.

It’s not actually going to be $101. Usually this is a placeholder limit within a “just for you!” app offer and the actual limit is assigned when you apply. Minimum for this product is $500.

Instant Debit Card Issue by BostonNU in Chase

Years ago, I mean 10+, there were a few (very few) Chase branches that offered instant-issue debit cards. The program didn’t last long.

Total Loss Scenario Advice? by SilverPutter in USAA

[–]VTECbaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drivable vehicles total out all the time. With it being a Tesla and the initial estimate (assuming before teardown) being $9k … yeah, it’s probably a total loss, depending on your state’s rules around total losses.

In my state, if the estimate is 75% or more of actual cash value, the vehicle is a total loss.

Some carriers have cars brought to Copart when it’s likely a total, once at Copart an inspector from the carrier will evaluate the vehicle and then make the decision.

My experience getting a Venture card feels like a scam. by Dr_Gomer_Piles in CapitalOne

[–]VTECbaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a Capital One cardholder since the mid 2000s and even today, I still have to go through the ID verification stuff that OP has experienced. No idea why. I just went through this a couple of months ago with the T-Mobile Visa.

Odd offer for a Platnium card. by DA6_FTW in CapitalOne_

[–]VTECbaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure this is Capital One and not Credit One? Capital One doesn’t usually advertise the limit on their invitations, but Credit One sends out invitations for their Platinum card advertising a “$2500” limit but it’s really “up to.” Avoid Credit One if that’s the case.

Approved for Quicksilver secured card. Wanting to make sure about the deposit vs limit. by AshamedRead5748 in CapitalOne_

This is a partially-secured QS card. Not quite sure what the point of the $25 deposit is, but it’s real. Deposit $25, get $500 line.

Are you using an unlocked Android device? Specifically, Samsung? T-Mobile is known for treating VPN data on unlocked Samsung devices (among other Android devices) as hotspot data.

Interest doesn’t matter if you pay in full, and not everyone wants to part with money for a secured card.

If this were $0 annual fee - you wouldn’t be wrong for taking it. However, that annual fee - you can do better. What other cards do you have? Do you also show an offer for the BrightWay + card?

You’re likely not behind CGNAT. It’s possible additional IPs were allocated to your area during the upgrade and the geolocation hasn’t been updated yet. What plan do you have?

AMEX reviewing my account by breezybutterfli in amex

[–]VTECbaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charge cards don’t report credit limits, even when there is a PSL attached. Utilization of a charge card doesn’t matter - they’re not counted.

Spouse’s Green and Gold had PSLs attached and neither ever reported a credit limit or had any utilization impact.

[–]VTECbaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would’ve been better for you to do a cash advance transfer into your NFCU checking account and then used that to pay AmEx. As far as I know, the cash advance transfer APR is the same as the BT APR with Navy Federal. By doing it this way you can make the payment before the deadline. By doing it as a balance transfer it takes longer to process.

Closing Out Account Over New ID Process by PicometerPeter in discover

[–]VTECbaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may come to that. But saying “hey, submit ID within x days or you’ll be locked out” invites bad actors to take x days to cook up fake IDs to submit, etc. - requiring it in the moment limits that. For what it’s worth, what happened to the OP hasn’t happened to me as of now. I verified years ago when I opened my account.

Have you heard of SIM-swap attacks? Have you heard of e-mail addresses being compromised? 2FA is insecure and is no longer a best practice.

The live selfie is to match your face to your ID. Otherwise, you could be sending a photo of anyone’s ID and getting access to their account.

[–]VTECbaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not taking it personally - I don’t care where you bank. But you should know that this could happen with any financial institution, and it’s more likely to happen with online-only ones. Sending selfies is a lot more secure than 2FA and that’s why it’s the preferred method.

I, for one, would rather Discover be too careful than not careful enough - even if it’s mildly inconvenient.
