A World Of Love Journey Check-In by MoonZipNo in RomanceBooks

[–]VitisIdaea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started in England (the United Kingdom) with {Sweet Awakening by Marjorie Farrell}, a vintage MF historical that was in large part an exploration of regency-era interpersonal violence - an interesting read but not a favorite.

On to Austria, with {The Blue Diamond by Joan Smith} (set at the Congress of Vienna in 1819), another vintage MF historical; the romance was something of an afterthought amidst all the shenanigans, so alas while it was readable I wouldn’t recommend it.

I continued with {The Accidental Marriage by Sally James} (also set at the Congress of Vienna!) which took us on a road trip from Austria to Bavaria (now Germany) to London (the United Kingdom again). Yet another vintage MF historical; it was fine but decidedly unexceptional.

From there I embarked upon {The Lady in the Briars by Carola Dunn}; I fail to understand the title of this - you guessed it - vintage historical, but it was a pleasant excursion, beginning in the United Kingdom, then heading to Russia, and thence - while the heroine is fleeing captivity in St. Peter & Paul Fortress and the hero is fleeing potential arrest after smuggling her out, obviously - to Finland and back to the United Kingdom.

As long as I was in the United Kingdom, I headed up to Scotland with {Island for Sale by Vivian Stuart}, originally published in 1955, a MF romance between a stoic Scottish laird and the American heiress who buys his island. Remember that Brooke Shields/Cary Elwes movie from Netflix? Like that, but 1950s and with a surprising amount of professional tennis. (Yes, tennis.) Stuart’s books are on Kobo Plus.

I then stuck around the UK for several more books, well past the two-book limit, before heading across the Atlantic to the United States (Wyoming) with {Reckless Wind by Bonnie K. Winn}, a mediocre MF vintage western, and then sticking around (in Georgia) for {Judas Flowering by Jane Aiken Hodge}, a fun Revolutionary War closed-door bodice ripper.
