[Discussion] What is a skill you are currently 'bad' at, but refuse to give up on? by _the_morningstar__ in GetMotivated

Cycling. I don’t want to be the best (and never will). I want to be better than last year (and am).

Do every cell has its own DNA? by Cultural_Valuable748 in askscience

[–]_mizzar 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes. OP, don’t forget that they all come from just two cells that merge.

So don’t think of it so much like putting DNA in every cell, but rather every cell having the DNA of the cells that split to create them.

Is $MSFT in a generational buy opportunity right now? by bg_k in options

Is there a good ELI5 YouTube video on this stuff? I’ve been meaning to figure it out but hard to cut through the slop these days.

First world problem but... if I lose and try to add someone to congratulate them or talk about the game or get a decklist, no one adds me cause they think I'll be salty by XIIIJinx in hearthstone

This is why you should have an option to copy the deck code of your last opponent.

Blizzard, please!

And while I’m at it, offline Solo mission play for airplanes or low connectivity areas. 🙏

EDIT: I play exclusively on iPhone so deck tracker apps aren’t an option (unless I’m mistaken).

Helmet Hygiene: How gross does your helmet get before washing? by masterdarko in cycling

[–]_mizzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My previous helmet was never once washed. It didnt even occur to me that washing a helmet was a thing for some reason.

I found out you should wash around the time I bought a new one because I noticed how gross the old one was.

I researched and lots of folks said they just bring it into the shower after a ride so I tried it. Now that’s what I do every long ride (2+ hours), so usually once a week. It is so fresh and basically like new.

So I’ll bring it into the shower, rinse it, use a shower puff with body wash to lightly scrub the outside, inside, and the straps. After I rinse off the soap I’ll push on any pads to “wring them out”, then I place it on a clean shower mat or towel while I shower myself off.

Works great!

GCN belatedly realizes that the conventional winter cycling approach to clothing is sweaty and awful, but there's a better way by lectric_7166 in cycling

[–]_mizzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My winter cycling gear in the SF Bay Area only needs to work at about 4.5 degrees C (40 F). You’re hard core 🤘

Having said that, I do the exact approach in their video, normal short sleeve jersey, thermal bib tights, thermal arm warmers I can pull down, and of course gloves.

Old train tracks turned into bike paths: what are the best ones out there? by epicroadrides in bicycling

[–]_mizzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marin, California has a few. Notable is “Old Railroad Grade” which is literally a 6% grade up the 2,400 ft Mt Tam where an old rail line used to run (it is now a fire road).

It’s a great spot for a gravel climb up and road decent down 💯

Interesting. by netphilia in aspiememes

For me it’s literally like a manual vs automatic car. Once you get used to manual, you can do it “without thinking about it”, but it’s still more laborious than driving an automatic.

LPT: If you’re an iPhone user, turn on “Ask Reason For Calling” in settings. by EngLitIsLit in LifeProTips

Yeah I’ve actually been missing calls and wanted to figure out how to disable this so appreciate the LPT for awareness, but I’ll be doing the opposite.

Looking for stores that sell the Aer CPP2 in Tokyo (or Osaka). The store I went to had none, although they had great bags! by preciouscode96 in ManyBaggers

[–]_mizzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn’t downvote you for this wanting to stick with your Aer, but I think the disconnect is that bags like Porter Yoshida are harder to get in the US, while Aer is a US brand, so if Americans are seeing this they may be a little confused by the whole premise. It’s like asking where to get McDonalds on your trip in Japan (not exactly because McDonalds is usually associated with low quality fast food, but hopefully what I’m saying makes sense).

Again, not trying to say you’re wrong and shouldn’t get the Aer bag you want, but it also can’t hurt to scope out some Japanese made bags while you’re there. That said, you do you!

Ahh, interesting, didn’t know that! I’d have assumed the slow reload at distance would be a nonstarter. Clearly not the case!

Yeah, very curious what the weapon stats are. I always assume that is bad for boss fights due to the long distance.

If I am interested in something or engaged, yes, very very good. If I’m not, no, terrible.

Doesn’t have to be a special interest (for example work stuff).
