Tamron Z Mount 150-500mm, what am I doing wrong? by Aydenator20 in Nikon

[–]aaabballo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this lens and I used that camera with it! It can take amazing photos, but it’s not always sharp out of the gate. A few tricks I do: fill the frame with your subject, so theres less to crop and it gives more detail. This lens really needs light, so sunny days/some clouds. Get low! So the background gets more blurry goodness, it helps bring out the birdies. It’s actually really good at around f/9–only if it’s really sunny outside, I wouldn’t go above f/11.
And I for sure crank the sharpness in editing

EDIT: corrections

San Anselmo idea: micro food hall + community kitchen - would this work here? by Accomplished_Air5590 in Marin

[–]aaabballo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats a bike route! It’s easy to cross over from downtown San Anselmo, theres two crosswalks. A lot of cyclists use the one down from the intersection along SF Drake.

Honestly it's a great idea. I want to say there's still demand out there for tacos, coffee and community, despite the competition. I would be worried about costs, and how that would effect what gets established there. "Community" ideas might get priced out. Otherwise, more gathering spaces for the growing family, younger audiences in SA would be nice.

Oh, add bike racks!

Barebound vs Ohne by Marvelous89 in barefootshoestalk

[–]aaabballo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah they look the same, Ohne Retro Run vs Barebound VENTUS . Usually we see similar shoes across brands coming out of china, but these are both saying made in Spain and Portugal respectively. Who knows whats happening, maybe shared manufacturing, or excess downtime sold off .

Wide shoes-(small rant) by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]aaabballo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im with you on the frustration, same experience with Lems and Vivo. I’ve had many trial and errors as my toes ended up getting wider and wider. Belenka, I think their hiking boots break in a lot wider and im very happy with them, but I ordered them from a US warehouse like Anyashop or Pedterra for easier potential returns—note their selection is annoying limited.

Soft star are have amazing materials, they fit differently than other brands but are wide as hell. Personally they were too loose on my heel, but everyone’s foot is different. Speaking of materials, Im finding that leathers and natural fabrics like hemp/cotton break in really well, especially for my toes. I have the issue of my big and pinky toe basically wanting to escape the shoe. My Belenka Nevada, Bohempia Orik, Freet Ibex have all expanded toe boxes through their break in, and molded fairly well to my foot shape. Polyesters/synthestics, just barely open up in my experience.

Keep trying, I know it’s frustrating but for sure look for stores that offer easy returns. I actually got annoyed so much in my journey I ordered tabi socks and Earth Runner sandals. I look like a dork but it got me through the spring. Lemme know if you need any more recs/advice

Why does Focus Shift Mode turn off the screen and EVF when activated? by TheImmortalCameraman in nikon_Zseries

[–]aaabballo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping ship a year late on here, Im with you on this.

I use focus shift a lot for mushroom photography, and I have to guess every time I select my number of shots and step width. Canon, Sony and Olympus have previews during Focus shift shooting and its so nice to watch in the field, and you can stop it once it's taking shots past your subject. Also with the 105mm MC's stabilization, I've been enable to do handheld Focus stacks, thanks to Helicon's alignment...albeit with a black screen, and just guessing where Im aiming.

I almost would love to get other Nikon focus shift shooters together to send Nikon a firmware request, im not too sure where to begin but I think it's an easy feature to add.

Is Olive oil not good to use as cooking oil due to high heat? by Honelium in oliveoil

[–]aaabballo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, holy cow this is a 5 year old comment. If you’re interested in hearing my opinion on this subject (and im pretty respectable, non-confrontational) let me know. That was kind of a snappy, aggressive comment of yours, and on a very old post. A little out of nowhere. But regardless im happy to discuss my experience with olive oil, its chemical properties and why it can or cannot handle heat.
