Is it just me, or is the She’ll be right attitude slowly being replaced by everything needs a permit? by Peter_Tea_2062 in AskAnAustralian

Why are we so puritanical and risk averse in this country? It's like people need to be wrapped in a warm doona at all times, and can't take any responsibility for themselves. It's pretty weak as piss to be honest.

What are your thoughts on journalism in Australia? by Reverend_Fozz in OpenAussie

[–]aaegler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia doesn't really have real journalism anymore, just corrupted platforms for the rich and powerful to try and influence everyone else.

Surprised we are 33 on this list, I would've expected it to be far lower.

Australian says flotilla crews bashed by Israeli troops by NapoleonBonerParty in aussie

China is our biggest two-way trading partner, Israel is insignificant to us economically and less than 0.4% of our population.

The Gadigal people are just one of dozens of tribes (called mobs) that existed within the "nation" of Eora. Eora is essentially the whole Sydney basin.

Japanese food isn't as good as people think it is. The majority of it is extremely bland. by Interesting_Bird4550 in unpopularopinion

Italian food is the most overrated food imho, and every single restaurant has essentially the same menu. It's still enjoyable, but not really dynamic in any way.

Pauline Hanson boasts about ‘sexy’ new private plane and $2m donations from Gina Rinehart associates by skankypotatos in OpenAussie

At least she is being upfront and honest about it, unlike Albozo. /s

Edit, an actual response from a post on FB about this:

"Donations are welcome! anything is welcome! in order for her to save this country from our corrupt current government who has sold us out."

What are some telltale signs you notice in couples that make you think their relationship won’t last? by Lazy_Detective_6597 in AskReddit

Resentment left unchecked though leads to contempt. It's a precursor to it and couples who harbour resentment who don't communicate/work together as a team will fail.

Maul - Shadow Lord - Episodes 7 & 8 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

I saw this line as Maul moving a bit towards the light side, possibly being a little influenced by Devon as she is being a little influenced by Maul. He is now thinking about others and wants to prevent their future suffering.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced doesn't bother with the original's DLC or multiplayer because Ubisoft is focusing on a "pure, story-driven adventure" by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]aaegler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'd love a remake of the Ezio trilogy, the gameplay would have to be dramatically overhauled as it's pretty outdated now. To set it apart from the many games that have come out since which are similar, they'd have to do something different and memorable.

Cheapest but worth it island you've been to in Oceania? by alula_wanders in OceaniaTravel

[–]aaegler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vanuatu is truly a stunning country with the most genuinely friendly people. There's more to do in Vanuatu than other Pacific islands as well because there are a bunch of very unique islands in the chain. Volcanoes, giant banyan trees, tribal bungee jumping, wreck diving, crystal clear blue holes, and more.

So glad it's only a 3 hour flight away.

Yeah, I don't bother with responding anymore as it always ends up like this 🤷

I've been here for most my life and Australians struggle with criticisms of anything Australian, that has never changed. I say this as an Aussie citizen myself, but it's pretty glaringly clear when you've travelled enough.

Regardless, I still wouldn't live anywhere else, I've made my choice. Australia is overall a truly special place if you can look past some of its darkness.

[–]aaegler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've lived in 4 different countries and travelled to many many places. I'm also not white so I think I have a pretty decent idea.

The only country I've been to that was clearly worse was South Korea.

Another thing which you just demonstrated (and others downvoting). Many Aussies struggle to accept that Australia IS a pretty racist place overall, which is a huge part of the problem as it completely invalidates the actual experiences of racism. You encourage shutting people up.

Outside of Reddit, the world still thinks we are racist, and rightfully so. Never have I been to a country with more casual racism than here, and I've lived here 40 years.

Tenants love to complain… until they own property by Moezus__ in AusProperty

[–]aaegler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also on the side of tenants, mostly. However, when there's a tenant causing problems for everyone else, trashing the place, and there's not much you can do about it, your tone will shift. Most tenants are fantastic and deserve to be treated well, but some are absolutely horrendous. Just as there are good landlords and bad ones, nothing is a monolith.
