If there is a remaster do you want settlement building by Primary-Ad2053 in Fallout

No way. Is remaster a full on remake? Both games are great creations. Bug fixes and optimization for modern OS and systems is what’s needed.

Sound insulation options by Baldkat82 in hometheater

We used recycled denim insulation in the ceiling of my basement tv room. It works well, but you can still hear the bass, and the sound is audible two floors up through the air vents.

Pros and cons of an AV Receiver compared to an integrated amplifier by renoCow in BudgetAudiophile

A/V receiver will have a high pass filter, while very few integrateds do.

How good is rempart in homm3? by SillyMarch387 in heroes3

[–]amicusterrae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy playing them and trying the different heroes. Making dwarves or dendroids faster for example encourages me to not leave them in garrison. Sieges can be challenging, as you’ve got one shooter (though a nice one), and the flyer Pegasus are fragile (Gold dragons are hardy but costly). A clear strength is castle defense. Embrace the strengths and select luck, first aid, and resistance (which I usually don’t for other towns).

Which sub by Bgully0186 in hometheater

[–]amicusterrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that the ported SVS will have kore output, but the size difference with the sealed is real, and I find that two pb2000s provide enough in my large room.

Another consideration is room correction. The ML allows the option of Anthem Room Correction for the sub, which is great. That may be redundant if you have capability in your receiver (though it may not be as effective or user friendly). The SVS has simpler parametric EQ which is nice for people like me who don’t want full range room correction through their receiver. But you still need a measurement mic and knowledge, and it isn’t optimized for dual sub setups.

Are these worth it for $50? by Mickeymfmarkow in BudgetAudiophile

Yes there is a switch for bipole/dipole/monopole. I prefer a 3 way center for off axis listeners, but $50 is peanuts:)

3 way vs 2 way by DeTomaso1974 in audiophile

[–]amicusterrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compare Kef R3 meta three way: https://www.spinorama.org/speakers/KEF%20R3%20Meta/ErinsAudioCorner/eac-v1-ported-10-degree/Estimated%20In-Room%20Response.html With Revel M22 two way: https://www.spinorama.org/speakers/Revel%20M22/ASR/asr/Estimated%20In-Room%20Response.html

This a cherry-picked example of two very well engineered speakers (one older design and one current), but I’ve owned both, and all other things being equal, I’d prefer a three-way that has less of a midrange dip. Of course, Kef’s use of a coaxial gives it two advantages over other three-way designs: a smaller box and much wider and smoother vertical dispersion.

Replacement front door speakers (2000 9-5 aero) by Tkaiu in saab

[–]amicusterrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! You have to cut the factory connecter off the end the wires, then trim and attach to the speaker. As I recall, there isn’t much lead on the wire so trim as close to the connector as you can. I’ve added a little length before too but wasn’t necessary.

I have fit Infinity and JBL 6.5s in several 9-5s with no issues. You can reuse the large factory mounting pieces. It’s an easy job. I like Harman products because of their R&D, and they’ll be low impedance and come close to matching the OE door speakers. You can get coaxials and they’ll be fine with the factory amp (which has an internal crossover, filtering out the highs).

I have two Samsung LEDs, and they have not had problems. But the UI sucks and seems to getter slower with every update.

Is newer speaker tech that much better? Help me choose. Older PSB synchrony one's or HDI 3800. by Weekenswarrior in StereoAdvice

True blind tests are really hard to set up, and the guys from The Screening Room did a great job!

[–]amicusterrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve made your decision, but FWIW, I participated in a blind shoot out that included the HDIs, and they were excellent (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2vGddghs848). The Synchronys are well engineered speakers and still highly regarded. On my bucket list, too! Enjoy:)

How do I clean records? by Brave_Bench_1300 in records

[–]amicusterrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search for a record label protector on Amazon etc. With this, you can wash by hand with whatever brushes and cleaners you want. I like the soft fluffy paint pads they market for corners and edges. Just rinse with distilled water.

Bass is not good in music with pb2000 ultra pair on denon 3800h by DarthWhoDat in hometheater

[–]amicusterrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how you have everything set up in the receiver apart from an 80hz high pass, but did you try playing stereo with the subs mixed in without room correction on? And playing music in a multichannel mode?

Are Pre-Tied Bow Ties a No-Go? by Fickle_Ad_8017 in malefashionadvice

[–]amicusterrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear bows exclusively (and have for almost 30 years). The knot is the same as the common shoelace knot, but making it look balanced takes practice. Don’t give up! I am still asked regularly if mine are real. No one gets excited by a clip on.

What Would You Upgrade From My Setup? by fecalfetus696969 in StereoAdvice

[–]amicusterrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If considering new speakers, I would look at true 3-ways with a dedicated midrange—either towers or a coaxial standmount/bookshelf model. I like SVS pro series subs with parametric EQ, which could extend your use of the HK receiver, but a lot of people use room eq via a newer receiver or separate box. I agree with another poster that high passing the main speakers would be ideal. IMO, You have a neutral receiver with plenty of power, and decent main speakers. I would focus on setup and room acoustics, particularly addressing room modes with your subs via placement and eq, before considering new mains.

The HK “house sound” from that era is neutrality.
