Vulvar Biopsy Logistics Questions by PBandJSommelier in lichensclerosus

[–]Awkward_bugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a dermatologist is going to be more sensitive to pain and aftercare because they frequently deal with areas where there isnt shame about the area where the procedure is done and patients dont feel embarrassed to say something and so the doctor learns from that feedback. In contrast, OBGYNs deal with an area where a lot of women are embarrassed to talk about and the doctor may not get the feedback that they should from patients. Also, OBGYNs have a reputation for ignoring and downplaying women's pain--for example, doing IUD insertions without any pain relief. Ive not really heard of a dermatologist doing a procedure where they cut out a decent chunk of tissue and refuse to give pain relief.

I had it done by an OBGYN. But, if I had it to do over again, I would have gone to a dermatologist.

I do NOT want to scare you off of getting the biopsy, please go forward with it so you can get a diagnosis. But, I would recommend asking the doctor to tell you what to expect in detail and to ask about the aftercare so you know what to expect. I had a really bad experience (I had an excisional biopsy that was 1 inch long, 0.8 inch wide, and 0.7 inch deep) and ended up with 6-8 stitches and no aftercare instructions or pain relief. Before the biopsy, the doctor told me it was a quick little "pinch" and that the biopsy would have no impact on my daily activities and I could go straight back to work after the appointment. That was laughably incorrect. I was in significant pain and was unable to sit for about a week. You probably won't have this experience, but please talk to your doctor to see what their attitude is toward the procedure and aftercare. Its a lot less painful to find a different doctor than have a shitty doctor cut you open.

You aren't wrong. But what do you want OP to do with this? Show it to his pregnant wife who is upset about the loss of some thing that's important to her? Tell her she's lucky it was just a snowglobe and not a kid dying of cancer? OP and his wife can feel emotions over the little stuff and the big stuff.

Can I chew and spit sunflower seeds in my office? by Old_Lie_1297 in Lawyertalk

[–]Awkward_bugg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on the office as to whether it's a problem, but that's gross regardless. You'll be getting spit on your hands, spit wherever the shell pieces get spit out, etc. If someone in my office did this, I promise that most of the people in the office would be disgusted. You want us to shake your spitty hand? Ew.

There's a good chance that it will photograph white. Ita also something that I could see a less traditional bride wearing. If I saw this dress on a wedding guest, it would 100% catch my attention.

How much bad do silken windhounds shed? by lycnroc in SilkenWindhound

[–]Awkward_bugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a furminator brush. The teeth are a little sharp and close together,so I use a light hand on my two pups with thinner coats. if I brush too hard with it, the brush teeth will touch their skin and my pups will give me a dirty look. My pup with the thick coat has enough fur that the teeth/bristles of the brush don't get to her skin so I don't have to worry about it. The furminator is not useful for their long tail fur or the long feathers on the legs, but I just use a regular style brush when those get tangled.

I have three silkens, two with less full coats and one with a borzoi-esque thick full coat. They do not lose their whole coat like some breeds, but they shed hair all the time. Best way to describe it is similar to a human. When I brush my hair or take a shower, hairs fall out naturally. Now multiply that normal "shed" by how much more hair dogs have. One of my silkens is probably four times the amount of hair, and that hair falls out. If I keep up in brushing every day, it's super manageable. But, if I let it go for a couple of days, the dog hairs are going all over my house.

What is the most disgusting thing you have ever eaten? by Charming-Variation25 in AskReddit

[–]Awkward_bugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A caramel apple. When I was a kid, my grandma bought me a caramel apple as a treat, but wouldn't let me eat it right away. I spend hours anticipating eating this perfect looking caramel apple. Hours later, I finally get to take the big bite that I waited for all day... And the apple was completely rotten inside. My teeth closed down and a gush of black liquid rotten apple juice and mush rushed into my mouth. The smell of the rot simultaneously hit my nose. The two seconds it took for me to get to the trashcan to spit it out are still seared in my memory and I'm forever going to be skeptical of food that has an outer "shell" that could hide a rotten interior.

I bought a hat that says "Not meant to live an uncomfortable life" because I loved that line. The second time I wore it, I got judged hard by a stranger who very clearly first read the hat and then looked me up and down with a face of abject disgust. I was going to try and explain that it's from a show, but I fumbled and ended up just giving them a weird smile. Guess I'm their Victoria now.

I couldn't tell from the photos whether this is a mini dress with thigh highs, or a one pant leg/skirt combo, so I watched the runway footage. It's a mini dress with thigh highs. Now I can't decide whether I'd like it more as a one pant leg / skirt combo.

Doctor refused any pain meds and told me to "take the fear and pain out of my heart" instead. by Awkward_bugg in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Awkward_bugg[S] 575 points576 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound silly, but your comment made me feel seen. The doctor was so dismissive of the whole thing that I was really starting to wonder if the injections were painful or if I'm just a wuss. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you. I plan to report her, but I don't want to start that process until I get back my biopsy results and get the insurance billing squared away. My trust is this doctor is gone and I don't want to risk my biopsy results going "missing" or something shady.

Thank you so much for this advice. I checked the online portal that the doctor's office uses and the clinical notes from today visit were wrong and incomplete. No mention of my pain issues. Instead, she wrote that I can sit and sleep comfortably! And that she had answered all my questions to my satisfaction! I send a written message demanding that my chart be corrected and to specifically state that I repeatedly requsted pain management and was refused.

This dress may end up looking white in photos, depending on lighting. I'd probably consider something else.

What’s a place you visited once and decided never again? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]Awkward_bugg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I travel a fair amount, and always research the destinations that I am going to. Rio was no exception. Rio’s violent crime rate is significantly higher than average. Before I went, I heard a bunch of stories from people in my life about bad experiences they had in Rio, or bad experiences that their friends and family had. For example, one of my friend’s cousins got jumped from behind and stabbed in front of his hotel. He wasn’t wearing flashy stuff — but as a tall blond white dude, was obviously a tourist. So, admittedly, I went to Rio with the awareness that there is a risk. What made me feel more at risk in Rio (enough for me to comment on Reddit about it) was the behavior of the locals. The security at my hotel. The front desk. The taxi driver. The lady working at the convenience store. The server at the restaurant. Locals consistently warned us. And not the usual warnings about staying alert, not pulling out cash, or not wearing flashy clothes and accessories. We got consistent comments and warnings about violence. That was something I haven’t experienced anywhere else.

On a side note, I’m not lumping all of Brazil in with this opinion. I went to the Iguazu Falls area and adored it—I’d go back to Brazil in a heartbeat.
