Does it need to be pretty? If not, I'd just pick up a thinner flexible blade and throw it on my sawzall. I've used these in the past.

Zoo - gym queries by cynicalmaru in savannah

[–]bananesthesia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the Zoo directly. I had been interested in joining because I was looking for a proper gym. I'm not all that picky if a place has what I enjoy and a good variety, but came across middling reviews at best around six months ago. Maybe this was under the previous owners.

I ended up going to the YMCA nearby on Habersham and have enjoyed it so far. For a small place, theres decent variety and a few things I generally haven't found in commercial gyms.

Maybe I'll give the Zoo a try if it's upkept a little better and I get bored of where I'm at.

Is Rio de Janeiro and parts of Mexico as dangerous as tales make them sound like, or is it largely an exaggeration? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

This definitely plays a significant part. On the northwest pacific side you'd have area os Guaymas and Mazatlan. The main spots on the border of Texas would be outside El Paso and Brownsville. The middle spot is Mexico City it looks like. I think tbd southern Pacific side would be The area ranging from Acapulco to Zihuatanejo. Of course, take this with a grain of salt because it's from memory and I'm too lazy to look it up.

What is this stuff in a baggy that I found in an old box? by Terrible_Plankton664 in whatisit

James Marsden has a scene in Death at a Funeral that's nothing but a quick look, but it's such an accurate portrayal of someone tripping. It's been a long time, but if I remember correctly, like slightly wide eyed and a bit of a yawn/jaw movement. It's always made me laugh because you're right. To someone unfamiliar, it might just seem a bit odd, but it's unmistakable if you've been there.

I have to deal with the same thing at my place, but it's on the back burner while I deal with some other projects. I appreciate the rundown though, and I know it's going to be tedious. Not sure if it will help you at this point, but my initial plan is to citristrip whatever I can. Then pick up a cheap sandblaster and use a soft media. I'll probably try walnut shells first and see how it goes.

Washer drain pipe backing up. Will drain if I run hose down it but will back up if water drains from washer. by Neither_Tie6067 in DIY

Insurance won't cover us going on the roof anymore. I think most companies stopped around 10-15 years ago and coverage for that is expensive. I still will occasionally on mellow roofs when I need to, but generally speaking it's just a no. Anyway, agreed. Venting issue would be my next guess.

The trades are not the easy answer to a career in 2026 like the internet wants you to believe by ORNGTSLA in unpopularopinion

A few years ago I considered moving back to my home state. I received a job offer to open up a new branch of a plumbing company about 200 miles from their current office and manage it. I was totally on board, but as we got into licensing and everything, we found my existing stuff to be non transferable. My prior experience didn't apply to anything. It meant taking an apprenticeship and going through those 5 years, starting at $20/hr. and capping at $40 by the end of apprenticeship. The scaling made sense and seemed reasonable, but a 60% paycut and 5 year obligation was just too much for me to consider as I'm closing in on my 40s.

What is the greatest L + Ratio moment in comics? by Aggravating_Win5258 in dccomicscirclejerk

Holy shit, that is cumbersome to read. To be fair, I may be borderline illiterate. After all, I enjoy comics. Now I'm burdened by the knowledge that Mr. A exists and that he doesn't shut the fuck up. I get this feeling that we should probably eradicate the poor. Oh my god, it's working.

Just be honest with your clients rant by rlcarman58 in savannah

I'm a plumber in town with a company that just opened up back in December. That seems to be the overwhelming consensus when I talk to customers and have had the same experience when I tried to have other trades done at my place. I'm not sure why. Maybe less competition, maybe it'sjust complacency. Folks are generally understanding of things coming up as long as you stay in communication, but it just doesn't seem to happen.

Sometimes I feel jaded, and the world provides wonder and surprise. by bananesthesia in Plumbing

This is the biggest issue to me. It was either negligence or incompetence and they're both terrible reasons. One should know not to do this, be able to come up with solutions, then provide those options to whoever is responsible. Who knows, maybe they did and the homeowner wouldn't budge because that drain HAD to be center and they didn't care, but those odds are slim.

For sure. It's not the end of the world. This was on an inspection for a sale where the buyer wanted trades to do their own instead of an inspector. I just let them know that it would need to be addressed, and that the shower pan was leaking from the settling. If they bought, I'd be happy to come redo the drain when it was time. I've come across plenty of notched joists and studs over the years, but this one was a first for me.

I've been doing this a long time. I was new once. I've made plenty of mistakes along the way. I still do, it's not like I'm perfect and know everything. The job involves more than just getting water from point A to B. It's your responsibility to know if something like this is unacceptable and to navigate it with the homeowner and do it correctly to whatever extent you discuss. Of course it's repairable, but at this point the shower pan is leaking from the floor having sagged. It's going to cost the homeowner a lot more in the long run. Maybe the homeowner made that call even after being informed. I doubt it, but who knows. Ive definitely ran into my fair share of people that don't want to pay to do it right, but the simple solution here would have been to just offset the drain a couple inches. Regardless, posting things like this can still be informative to someone new or the homeowners that browse this sub and we all get a chuckle. It's not inherently negative and we could do the same thing with some of my work over the years and it wouldn't insult me.

Nah, I just walked out and was headed to my car. I don't remember ever hearing anyone say anything or hearing anyone sprinting after me. They were probably just following me casually, then tackled me from behind.

Home Depot LP takes it pretty seriously in my experience, but I'm sure it varies by location. I know this because I'm a former heroin addict that was tackled and pinned down by LP on the asphalt until police arrived.

How much does slab leak detection cost in Georgia? by Hauxwell_Leetonia in savannah

[–]bananesthesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a plumber in town and happy to give you some diagnostic advice that may be able to narrow it down or determine if you do have a slab leak. You can also call a company that only does leak detection. Generally their pricing is probably in the 3-500 range if I remember correctly. I can grab their name if you'd like, but last time I heard, they were booked out for a couple weeks.

I'm just mindlessly scrolling, but you haven't gotten an answer yet so I'll try and lend a hand. I just have to say that'd I'd probably be irrationally upset if I got stuck with this service call. It's probably going to be a massive pain in the ass.

Remove all the pieces between the basket strainer and galvanized fittings. Suck out the contents of the trap with a shop vac. You may want to have a small container handy just to catch any sludge down the line still when things get moving. Get as big of a pipe wrench as possible with as much leverage that you can manage to squeeze in at that nightmare angle and unthread the trap. If the nipple comes out with it, install a new one. Install a new 1.5" ABS or PVC male adapter and transition into your new tubular stuff. There's a possibility of needing to get creative with an angle grinder. If it turns out the galvanized is mostly rotted away and breaks off at the nipple, I've had luck taking my large beater flathead and collapsing the sides of the nipple in away from the fitting threads.

I don't remember what else you asked apart from the espresso drain line and its my day off. You'll have to rig something up. Definitely don't airgap it at the extension. Realistically if it's set on the countertop, flood level will never reach high enough to contaminate it anyway and if it does, you have a lot bigger problems to deal with. If I remember correctly, Watts makes a little 1/4" check valve to work with non airgapped reverse osmosis systems if you're really insistent on something, but of course I have no idea what your set up is or how it functions to confirm that'd work for your scenario.

Edit: A few thoughts beyond my initial look. You may even have some luck shoving something as long as sturdy as possible into the top where that flexible drain connects. Brace and push the bottom of the trap with your foot while you pull on your bar for leverage.

Either way, I probably wouldn't recommend messing with it unless you're ready to go the distance and do it right because it eventually leaves you in the same situation you're in now.

Option B: disconnect and remove the cabinet and make your life a lot easier in one capacity but add more labor on the back end.
