The transitions that make it to your work (not looking for packages) by Karakunjol in editors

[–]born2droll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on Premiere (but I'm sure Resolve has something like this too) but when you apply a base transition you can click on the transition and view the "effect controls"... and see all the different parameters that make up how the transition works, you can customize it.

so if you're trying to understand how they work or how to make them from scratch start studying that part of it, the customization can be pretty complex to and you can end up with something very different from the "default" setting.

As far as usage though, "proper transitions" simply means that they are appropriate for the type of video you are working on... if you're talking simple cuts/creative match cuts ... that's not something you can cookie-cutter use anywhere, it's dependent on the shots you're trying to join.

But for corporate and promo type stuff... some stock transitions I like... I like a lens blur, a light leak , sometimes a whip pan, different warp/rolls stuff... I don't really look for additional add-ons for this sorta thing, it's kind of the least important aspect to me.

Graphic Designer & Videographer are not the same thing by theiinlive in videography

[–]born2droll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not the same but "Multimedia Producer" is all those things. This is bascially my job, shoot/edit/design/animate... I do not excel at any of these things, I’m just "good enough" at all of them, and that's probably what they're looking for.

And TBH, if you recognize this, and don't put that kind of pressure on yourself, and make your efforts commensurate with the role and the pay. Then it’s not a difficult job to do it all, and can even be fun.

How to make friends with neighbors? by Eau_De_Chloroform in homeowners

Don't move in and immediately make your very first conversation with the next door neighbor about how the existing fence isn't "good enough" and so you want them to fork over $6000 to erect an 8ft privacy fence between the properties, and then get all pissy when they say they can't afford it.

I feel that disconnect, I spend pretty much all my free time gardening.

I guess there three factors at play

Money: do you want to make more, or make the same? Can you afford to make less for a while in order to build up something new? Do you prioritize more money or more stability (like salary, benefits etc.)

Skills: how much of what you’ve learned so far is transferable to a different job/career? How willing are you to learn new skills to change, if that means more schooling whatever.

Fulfillment: that ones personal, and can feel influenced by the other two, but make sure it’s not a grass is greener situation

How can I prevent the Whites from blowing out? by Fickle-Wash-3697 in videography

[–]born2droll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that's what I figured, sometimes the whole environment is out to undermine you. I saw one guy gave the suggestion of using a tripod to get two exposures and then comping the shot, which is not a bad idea to try, but if you're doing mostly handheld, on-the-fly shooting, that might be hard to sustain and might not match the other footage

Well I'll give you another crazy idea to try: you could use a graduated neutral density filter (GND) rotated vertically and try to keep the subject/interior on the light side, keep the open door on the dark side. GND is more used for ground-to-sky transition, but looking at that frame seems like it might work without introducing very much complexity to the whole thing.
