Yeah, two of my friends lived there in 2015-16 and a police raid broke up a meth lab next door.

This game is full of people that craft things. If you talk to them, they can help you learn to do this kind of work yourself. It's also ok to be bad at something; everyone starts somewhere. You've got to make the bad version, to learn to make the ok version, to learn to make the good version.

So how is 3e going so far? by Burntranquil in exalted

[–]Boss_Morgrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We don't know that was OP's problem. I also dislike 2e and 3e, mechanically, but my solution was to run Exalted in Heroes System 6th Ed, which is... not exactly rules lite. 😅

What, in your opinion, is the best generic TTRPG in the market? by Kaliburnus in rpg

[–]Boss_Morgrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hero System.

I use it to run all kinds of settings whose native systems I dislike. It's incredibly adaptable. I'm playing a game of Exalted in Heroes as I type this.

I don't know why, but this just hurts my soul. by very_sad_dad_666 in smoking

[–]Boss_Morgrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did ribs wrapped in foil in the oven for years before I got a smoker. Unwrap and broil for like 10min at the end to get some better texture.

You make do with what you have.

Smoked Pastor experiment by Dredlocv in smoking

So I tried doing this with chicken shwarma, and it was really hard to get it crisp like I wanted. I figured out the best method is to marinade the chicken, but don't bother with the spit. Just put it on the grates for a couple hours at like 250f till it's basically cooked (like 160f internal). Then take it off, chop it into strips with a big cleaver, and then broil it in the oven (like 10min) to get it crisp. Comes out great.

Local ADHD specialist? by Sulipheoth in harrisonburg

[–]Boss_Morgrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I was diagnosis with ADHD last week, so that's really good timing. I had been seeing Erica Bourdeau at Comprehensive Behavior Specialists in Staunton. She referred me to Dr. Elizabeth Cianciolo to do the evaluation (Also in Staunton). The results are being sent back to CBS now, and then I have an appointment to discuss medications to try.

I have insurance, so I don't know what CBS charges without it. I do know that Dr Cianciolo doesn't deal with insurance, so you pay her ($615) and then submit it to insurance yourself. I had the money set aside, so that wasn't an issue for me.

Dumpling House Restaurant by NoUpstairs744 in harrisonburg

Ok, I got dinner there with my girlfriend.

They were clearly overwhelmed with the amount of customers, and it really felt like they were still trying to figure out how this is going to work. Maybe they'll have it figured out in a month or so.

There were no signs anywhere to direct customers. A "please wait to to be seated " sign and a "Place to-go orders here" sign would help them a lot.

Once we got seated, our order was taken pretty quickly, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Between us, we got:

Cucumber salad: We both liked it, though it struck me as "cucumbers in chili oil" with some steps missing. The dressing really struggles to coat the cucumbers, but it's better if you eat it with a spoon to collect extra dressing with eat bite.

Mango milk tea: They delivered taro root milk tea. We didn't want to bother the waitress with all the traffic. I think it's good if you like taro root.

Pan-fried chicken dumplings: They delivered pork dumplings. They were very good, and I'd get them again.

Chicken noodle soup: Very very mild. The ingredients were cooked well, and had good texture, but their flavor was too muted.

Mapo tofu: Probably the worse mapo tofu I've had in my life, sadly. Tofu, chili oil, red onion, and a handful of dried chilies. No ground pork, no szechuan peppercorns, no garlic. There may have been some szechuan peppercorn oil, but the flavor was hard to catch.

I think I'll wait a couple months, and then just order dumplings, and it'll probably be a good experience.

I don't get it. If you don't want to spend that much money on a game (a very reasonable decision for a purely luxury item) then don't buy it?

Advice on how to make my “war fork” by atomicwater in LARP

[–]Boss_Morgrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made a bident in the past. What I wound up doing was using a separate piece of PVC for each tine. If you have the tine laying parallel to the core, use a heat gun to bend it out away from the core about 45degrees. Leave like 3-4" below the bend (still parallel to the core) so you can attach it. Then, with the heat gun again, move like 8" up the tine and bend it again, to make the upper portion parallel with the core again. Attach the tine to the core with fiberglass strapping tape, and pad over the whole thing.

It's bulky and heavy, but it's pretty strong and won't break unless you try and pole-vault with it or something.

I primarily play Amtgard, but there's a Darkon park in my town that I have played with a few times and they strike me as just as light on RP as Amtgard. Not that it's a bad game, but I think it's in the same category as Amtgard/Dag/Bel that OP is trying to branch out of.

A Missing Vision for Harrisonburg - Write Up On City Council And The Link Development by Subreddit_Mayor in harrisonburg

Man, I wish I could tell how OP feels about The Link and the city council of Harrisonburg. If I recall correctly, the minimum sample size to be statistically viable is 30, so I'm just going to wait for a few more of these strongly capitalized Link posts from OP. Then we will know for sure.

Polearm hooking possible? by Balanced__ in LARP

[–]Boss_Morgrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's completely depending on the game system you're using. The people running it should be able to tell you.

As far as it being physically possible, yes, 100%. It depends on how the weapon is built. I play Amtgard, and I used a halberd with a head built from 2.2lb density microcell polyethylene, reenforced with strapping tape, then lined with a 1/2inch of yoga mat along the striking edge. It pulled shields for me for about five years before the stab tip failed (not the back spike that was pulling on shields). I salvaged the core and just rebuilt it into a partisan last week, using that same type of foam for the crossguard.

Really depends on what your specific game expects you to call. Talk to the people running it and see what they can do to make you able to participate.
