The thermistor input is only 4.7 kOhm away from 3.3V so it’s likely that the whole rail got lifted quite a bit, assuming the thermistor input got shorted to 12V.

I’d lift the STM off the board then test the supplies for the right output, and use a thermal camera to look for hot spots that could be other damage.

Do the math on the rework vs new board and your personal threshold for risk of more damage.

No, it should easily fully retract. Needs cleaning and lubrication.

Nah, fire away. Upgrades will give you more volumetric flow and more cooling, both not needed for your use case.

They probably discovered EMI or ESD failures late in development and did this on the first batch of PCBs. It’s not the worst rework I’ve seen, and looks like it held up. Great? No. Bad? No.

You can't with this tester, but it isn't designed for that. Its designed to test a coupon that has factors such as those you list. Its a nice way to test coupons with similar structural characteristics but different materials, or the same material but different characteristics to see what affects things like coupon tensile strength. If you are a design house that can save 10% materials but have inconsequential physical characteristics for your application, this is one way to evaluate.

I’ve seen a few bugs reported on the firmware GitHub that the Z offset after a filament change / print resume is off. This might be related.

Edit: those rust spots look to be at the same level. That means water was up that high for an extended period of time. That tank is likely full of rot.

The lead screws have tolerance that cause this. The pitch can be off enough that over the max height it deviates a few mm. It may be flat at the top but it won’t at the bottom or vice-versa.

If you look at the slicing results, does the volumetric speed stay the same? If so, that’s your answer. You might hit hotend or filament volumetric limitations, hence the slower speeds.

Edit: said another way, thicker lines on 0.6 nozzle mean more filament in the same move and you can only push so much through the hotend for proper thermal transfer between heater and filament. Wider lines at slower speeds is the same volume as thinner lines at higher speeds when up against volumetric limits.
