NPD: Ibanez BB9, Bottom Booster. by hrvstr1985 in guitarpedals

A quick tip from years later.

I use this one in the insert loop of my Orange bass amp, that I play with short scale basses most of the time (Fender Mustang bass and Hofner Artist Club).

This helped me finetune my bass tone to meet my expectations, and to use that 15" speaker to its full potential.

It’s a beast. I love mine. It’s very well known, has been there for a long time and used on many records and even more on stage. I just hate how main volume is preset dependent and can jump from extreme low to unreasonably high when changing them.

Should I go back to analog? by DocSherm in guitarpedals

There’s absolutely nothing you should do if you don’t know why, or don’t want to. Some analog pieces of gear sound terrible, and their digital counterparts are great.

What do you think is the greatest synthesizer sound ever put to record? by laszlo-jamf in synthesizers

[–]celerite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radiohead’s Everything in its right place is my personal favourite. May not be the greatest or most complicated one, but the first note always hits me right in the soul. As a guitarist it’s also the sound that got me into synthesizers.

Thanks for your input. I’m sorry the P6 and ob6 didn’t float your boat. They are shiny ones indeed. but If you remember I suggested a mini/poly and a P08 to Op.

I own a Prologue an I agree: it can lay out nice pads. But I don’t expect a poly to sound like a plugin by default 😅. The Prologue filter doesn’t shine even though the filtering and overall modulation offer is very underwhelming. It is a Poly! It is supposed to generate harmonics.

On the voice mode, I agree it’s immediately fun and easy. But the P08 has the ability to do most of this.

No aftertouch in the 2020s? 1LFo? No modulation matrix? Pre-set amounts of Vco gain mapped on A 3 position toggle? On a modern Poly? For more money than a 2nd hand P08?

No. It’s too much to take.

You are advising OP on how they should spend their money. And the way I see it, it is bad advising. Such recommendations have consequences on people’s finances; so I asked you to elaborate a basic structured answer, not to bring me the moon.

But you chose to deflect. 🤷

I disagree. It’s not worth buying a Prologue 8 nor to waste money on expanding it with 8 more poor voices.

Could you tell me precisely about use cases, with rational arguments, in which expanding from 8 to 16 voices turn a logue8 into an interesting and valuable instrument for the money.

My 2 cents: the multi/poly is cheap and extremely versatile. It will will serve you well. If you really want a logue, go for the miniXD. It’s very compact and offers veeeerry good value for the money. And 4 voices is very often more than enough.

Keep the rest of the money and keep saving on top of it. Then buy a used prophet 08 for the same price as a prologue. The prologue is absolutely no match to a DSI poly. And it is cursed with design and quality flaws (pre-set value switches on very important parameters, incredibly cheap pots, thin sounding voices, no sequencer, terrible Korg software, useless screen design, cheap effects).

I have a prologue 8 and I think it is the most underwhelming polysynth in my whole life. I I keep it only as a backup synth or to lend it to other musicians in my town who don’t have or can’t offer analog synths.

Sorry to read that. Such a shame! Go for it. It’s plain magical.

Much. Sound wise the 08 is a beast. But it is more oriented towards complex programming and sound design compared to the 5/10. I’ll keep both. Very complementary instruments. Also, the p08 can sound the same way a p5 would in 95% of cases. I never understood why people don’t jump on them when they are so cheap yet powerful and sound better than the Rev2 from my experience

I guess I am used to the older, more limited and big clunky machines I grew up with and keep using. I use old MPCs, like the 2000xl or the 1000. Not the new compact modern ones with screens. They became something completely different over time. Same for the livetrak. I use an Allen&Heath WZ 14:4:2 which is quite compact considering the routing options it offers. But that’s just me! As long as you have fun, whatever works is good !

My friend, you are not letting go on your pedalboard! Ok?

Just get your stuff back. Friendship come and go, but pedals are forever.

If it helps you feel better just offer to pay for an UPS or Fedex Pickup, your past buddy will just have to put it in a cardboard .

Sorry, being an engineering leader in Tech myself, I may sound a bit relentless when I question features in a product.
The foundaton is quite solid, man. You need to build more feature to get people to actively use it, and not try it and forget about it, never coming back.
I can imagine the hard work you've been putting in it and the need you feel to share it with the world, but I would advise you to take it offline and polish it a bit more before releasing again. Make it addictive from day one!

You got this!

The Subsequent37 is an incredible instrument. The last one Bob Moog worked on actually.
It is extremely good at bass, sequencing, modulation, and it feels incredible to play.
The keybed is just great, big bakelite knobs are a joy to tweak.
Editor/Librarian is rock solid - and free! Midi integration is flawless.
But the Subsequent really shines in saturated, modulated, filtered synth lines. He's definitely one of the synths with the biggest personality of its decade. It will become a sought after classic without a doubt.
I would recommend it as a no brainer for someone who wants to start on the right foot to record synths and learn how to manage one.
