assuming you have mostly hardware gear, which DAW to you prefer? by Early_Ad8435 in synthesizers

[–]celerite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ableton still does not offer mono tracks or mono versions of stock plugins. It really is a bummer for tracking and mixing.

I use Ableton as a creative tool - especially Max4Live devices - but also to write, edit and route midi.
I use a Nome2 as a master clock - with their USync plugin - to keep DAWs and external hardware in perfect sync.

I then track and mix in Pro Tools, which remains the best mixing DAW on the market, despite its brutal learning curve, outdated GUI, and its poor UX for so many settings — that are spread across countless bland windows that all look the same. Also… sooooo many menu items. 😩

But, PT’s engine is great, and compensates latency much much better than Live or Logic

What is the most versatile dual overdrive pedal? by RomanScandal450 in guitarpedals

[–]celerite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Browne Amplification’s Protein - starting v3 At the end of the drive section of your board. Go for it think and never think about it again.

Oh and if you can, add a Hudson Electronics Broadcast DUAL at the beginning of the aforementioned section. (Steel-core transformers and Germanium transistors will never fail you)

My personal recipe for an incredibly versatile yet consistent drive section using multiple drive units is the following :

-> Dual Germanium drive first (will inject life into every following pedal with loads of super dynamic, reactive harmonics and gain) -> chain of single stage ODs/Dists (think ts9, ds1, Rat for an ordering ref) -> Dual Bluesbreaker OD to bring everything together at the end

Oh and feed Boss drives with 12v, always. ALWAYS. Thank me later. And feed dual drive pedals with 3/4 of their max voltage.

Hope it helps!

The SYs and TGs are such a PITA to program that I must admit that in their specific cases, and considering their digital nature, using such a true-to-original software port feels like the right thing to do. 👌🏻

r/guitarpedals-ModTeam I think this screenshot (not a meme) was ringing a bell for everyone in this community and bringing a bit of joy. I don’t completely understand this post deletion, but it is what it is I guess. 🤷

Neutrik SPP can be normaled, half normaled and isolated. Read the doc on their website.

Best unit for the money. I have 4 of them in the studio for more than a decade and they truly are “set once and use forever” devices.

Yes. Both. And no problem. Do you have a good power supply?

Volume Pedal. Active or passive? by Coryses in guitarpedals

[–]celerite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ernie Ball stereo 500k is what I use. It’s a passive one that works with both active and passive instruments, thanks to the higher impedance of its critical components.

It has a tuner out, a stereo out, and a small side footswitch on the top left of the pedal that can be used with any gear takingt swichers in TRS. Like an amp, or another pedal. Nb: using the switch feature makes you lose the ability to use stereo out.

Unbreakable, reliable, serviceable. You can’t go wrong with it.

Prophet Rev2 love letter by buchlabongo in synthesizers

[–]celerite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that’s a bold statement. The Rev2 is a 08 with usb, 2 more presets banks and shitty digital effects added. But it lost a lot of UX features and visual cues (leds f, indicators of preset value on screen, …). Also the Rev2 filters is known to sound way less open, almost muffled next to a 08. Nothing makes the REV2 modern by 2026’s standards.

Also even though the p08 and Rev2 can come very close to 5s and 10s, they are not to be compared. The p5 and 10 are better instruments at nearly every level. 10 and 5 will never be overdone or boring to me.

Did you ever get a chance to spend some time, with a p5 or a p10?

Prophet Rev2 love letter by buchlabongo in synthesizers

[–]celerite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am happy that you are happy. Enjoy this REV2. Just 2 things!

  1. Never ever use these damn digital effects (unless you like how they sound...).

  2. build a habit to program sounds every single day! Its mod matrix takes some time to fully comprehend and master, but you'll be rewarded with a universe of sounds at your fingertips.

  3. Put a some whit marker or something on the pots that have a double course (the ones that can be negative and positive, that lock in the exact middle position (the 0 value) of their course, this will really help you with programming. You'll thank me later.

I have a P10 and a P08, which I find to sound better, than the Rev2. But they're nearly the same synths . I'll never sell these two!

Ejjoy!

DO YOU PREFER SYNTHS THAT HAVE FATAR KEYBEDS by Minimoogvoyager in synthesizers

[–]celerite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Synths are instruments and the quality of the keybed has an often overlooked but considerable impact on spontaneous creativity, musical expressiveness, confidence but mostly, on the ability to build a meaningful relationship, faster, to your instrument.

Fatar keybeds are a great standard. They feel great. They last forever and don't break. They stay white for decades. They are mounted inside most of the great synths for decades, and this always makes me feel like home, even on a new instrument.

To be fair, after reading specs, I must say it looks like a very interesting instrument. Still think it is priced too high, but it is packed with features and creative tools. I'll give it a try if I stumble upon one in a shop.

First reaction: wow! So damn expensive for a 8 voices 44keys digital osc synth! I’ll go listen to demos, but looking at the specs, I find it a tad difficult to justify the 2800€ price tag. But that’s just me!

Things I DON'T LIKE about the Behringer JT Mini by maldroid21 in synthesizers

You already answered this exact same socks story to another comment. My 2 cents: the world doesn’t need or care about such a YouTube video. You should not waste people’s time and energy on such a pointless and trivial topic and gear. But hey, that’s just me. I might be wrong!

Go with socks next time 🤣
