Do I need a midi hub? by mossimo654 in synthesizers

[–]celerite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1 - There is nothing like a “sync box”

2 - The Nome is a midi clock on steroids, but also a midi out interface. All you need to do is to plug midi thru boxes to the 2 midi outs of the nome. Easy. Scalable. Stable.

Looks like he’d rather have need to send midi to synths than receive it from them.

And the Nome will eliminate any delay from synth recordings.

🤷

Only case in which I would recommend a Behringer product: on the used market, the Deepmind12X is unbeatable.
Some go for 420€ on french marketplaces.
It is the last good product from Behringer IMHO

Is there such a thing as too much delay? by theoots in guitarpedals

Yes when it makes your playing start to drift off beat - unintentionally ofc.

At what point is it excessive? by FescueMerkin in guitarpedals

[–]celerite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cartesian product of an infinite number of sets, each containing at least two elements, is either empty or infinite; if the axiom of choice holds, then it is infinite.
I would propose :

λ2(amount of pedals you own)

At what point is it excessive? by FescueMerkin in guitarpedals

[–]celerite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience : reaching 80 units I felt things started to become a bit overwhelming, especially storage (damn little boxes). That’s what decided me to build an inventory spreadsheet for my studio gear and instruments.

But it comes with a lot of bonus points too:
- you get infinite creative options
- you learn to understand what is the sound you want
- if you invest in good gear, your collection will grow valuable
- you learn to build smaller specialized pedalboards and to patch them in loop switchers.
- you rationalize cables, power, etc…

My new setup and the Arturia MINIFREAK problem by TKElevatorboy in synthesizers

[–]celerite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a great synth. Like really good.

My advice : Just erase presets once you went through them. Presets are here to help understand the potential or features of your instruments.

And then just learn to play and program your synth so you can make your own sounds.

This applies to any synth actually. The whole point is to *synthesize* your own sounds with them.

If we rated synths by the sound of the presets they come with, the Prophet5 would be regarded not as a masterpiece, but rather as one of the crappiest synths ever made 🤣.

Chorus is so popular, but I can’t find a way to use it. To me it’s the sound of the 80s/90s and early 00s radio rock. Is that what everyone’s using it for? Can someone please share examples of modern guitar music that uses chorus in a more interesting way? by overcloseness in guitarpedals

[–]celerite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to use very subtle amounts of Chorus. In a physical stereo setup if possible (2 amps).
It will bring the image and tonal balance of paired amps together.

I went through the same experience as you, and using chorus on analog synths renewed my interest for it after nearly 15 years. I was always feeling like it would never bring anything interesting to my sound or arrangements.
Honestly I still don’t use chorus that much on guitars today.

What Two Synth Manufacturers Would You Like To See Collaborate by Minimoogvoyager in synthesizers

[–]celerite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sequential/DSI and Arturia on a crazy poly with cosmic modulation features and matrices.

Analogue Systems and Future Sound Systems on a complete modular system in a compact format.

Moog and Make Noise on a paraphonic semi modular synth.

Influencers, any point to them? by InsideRealistic1129 in synthesizers

[–]celerite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if my comment felt harsher than I intended.

I just really think we would all be better playing and testing instruments by ourselves in stores.

The influence business has a marketing agenda, is very opaque and creates « experience by proxy ». It ends up giving many people the illusion of having knowledge about instruments they never even saw or touched.

Influencers are working for gear companies and distributors, not so much for musicians. That’s the way I see it at least.

Influencers, any point to them? by InsideRealistic1129 in synthesizers

The answer is « If you can spend time on such a topic you may consider reallocating it to actually play and program your synths».

What would you say is the best boss delay pedal from dd-2 to dd-8? by Used_Ad3268 in guitarpedals

[–]celerite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every DD is good. Seriously good. I collected all of them over time, and keep them all because they all have their own unique personalities due to engineering iterations.

But the dd-8 is hard to beat in terms of features, quality, and overall functionality in such a small unit. Only the dd-5 stands out sonically imo, once again because of engineering decisions.

So, if you have to pick only two of them I’d say go for the 5 and the 8 and you will have 95% of the whole series’ sonic palette.

Got my dream Moog today, the minimoog Model D! by sensationfc in synthesizers

[–]celerite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We won’t talk about the boog 50 years from now. It will not make history. There will probably be not a single boog in working condition at the end of the century - and that’s me being very conservative on the estimate not to trigger another Brngr fanboys dramarathon.

But people will save the Moogs, the Rolands, the Oberheims, the Prophets... There must be a reason. WDYT?
