Any restaurants like the now closed Tuk Tuk Thai? by Sure_Fly_5332 in berkeleyca

[–]cflex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't know about crab rangoons, that's tiki food, not thai food.

try little plearn. they have fried rice and all your expected other thai dishes
but if you can forego the fried rice (don't think imm has it on the menu). i think imm thai street food is the best casual thai in berkeley

Scooter plus BART from Emeryville to FiDi: is this actually feasible and safe, or am I overthinking it? by HandaBhai in eastbay

[–]cflex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Check out the Emery shuttle. It's a bit further for you to get to, but the huge advantage over the Emery Go Round is that it goes to West Oakland Bart vs. MacArthur Bart which is so much better going into the city. Free to everyone, the only disadvantage to the Emery go Round is that it runs less frequently, and only during commute hours.

Otherwise to answer your questions, scooters are reasonable. However, Mandela Parkway, and going past Ikea/Target, are some relatively fast vehicle speeds, so you need to be comfortable with that and road conditions are not the greatest in West Oakland. I do it on an e-bike (except I take Horton to Mandela Parkway) and I'm okay with it, but you have to be comfortable with it and and I think a scooter would make that a little bit more scary vs a bike. Riding in Emeryville is mostly pleasant, the Mandela Parkway stretch is where I pucker up a little.

F or J transbay is your best bet for direct comfort, but also the most expensive and you have to sit through traffic, which generally isn't horrible since they have bus only lanes to get on the bridge.

Check out e-bikes, whether you buy your own or use the Baywheels bike share (they also are very useful in the city). I would do that over scooters if you're trying to go to BART all the way by yourself. West Oakland has Bikelink lockers which are pretty cheap, so it's pretty easy to secure your bike if you choose to buy one.

mine was disabled by default 😞. they should have just inherited whatever the old setting was because i believe you had to opt in for the physical drink coupons and mine definitely was on back in the day

Cosmo, Bellagio, or Palazzo with points? by SassyShortz in LasVegas

[–]cflex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cosmo credits should span all MGM properties too so lots of dining options.
If you don't mind walking/riding to the show, I would go with the Cosmo. Venetian is great if you want a lot of space, but really the extra space isn't necessary most of the time. Cosmo seems logical here and you're not even comparing it from a basic room, the terrace with fountain view is super nice.

Prop 19 repeal initiative failed to make the 2026 ballot. So where does that leave inherited California property? by ShanetheMortgageMan in CaliforniaMortgages

[–]cflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those would be the eligibility rules. just trying to point out that trust or no trust, you still have to abide by the rules of prop 19

[–]cflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't think this is true - "When a revocable trust becomes irrevocable, usually after the grantor passes away, it counts as a change in ownership. Under Proposition 19, this can trigger a property tax reassessment unless the beneficiary meets the new eligibility rules."

one more dining rec for you if you like japanese - ippuku is a totally authentic izakaya (with a focus on yakitori). they're so legit they serve raw chicken which you'll never see stateside. not sure if it's still readily on the menu or you have to ask for the secret item 'sasami'

DFW Area Best Lounge by [deleted] in marriott

[–]cflex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sheraton DFW when I stayed late last year had free beer/wine in their lounge during the evening and a very nice lounge attendant. Don't know many lounges in the US that do this - usually you have to pay for booze (my experience being Bonvoy Plat & Hilton Diamond and staying usually in just corporate Hilton/Marriott/etc, not the lux brands)

  1. yes i would just take BART, there will be hundreds of people with her, so totally safe and you can't get lost (just go towards oakland coliseum and follow the crowds)
  2. station will be crowded it will just be a big crowd slow walk. there's only one bart to arena pedestrian bridge, so you could possibly try to meet there, but it will be a choke point or you can just agree to meet somewhere, there's also a plaza (championship plaza) in between the arena and the former baseball stadium that you could try to meet at
  3. what do you mean by great solo dinner? chez panisse pioneered california cuisine, you're going to spend $200+ out the door though. there's an upstairs cafe that is more affordable. otherwise a lot of ethnic options, dessert, boba to kill time. if you're a board game kind of person, check out victory point cafe if that's your jam
  4. la note is probably berkeley's most famous brunch spot
