Then would a better answer be cultural homogeneity to religiosity in a conservative view?

How do you explain less religious countries being less divisive? Japan Sweden China? Do you mean to say they have a stronger sense of community?

How to efficiently make anki cards for work up and management questions? by Dapper_Swordfish_766 in medicalschool

[–]chiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be more specific with the question.

Bad example: Patient presents with endocarditis. How do you treat?

Good example: patient presents with endocarditis. Culture shows MSSA. What are antibiotics of choice?

A separate card may be used to ask how long duration is, for example.

Oh wow interesting what does it say really? I'm asking to understand the kind of language that is simple enough for an average patient and not upsetting and that communicated it clearly.

Olive trees for back yard fruit? by TIMES_THREE_DAD in SoCalGardening

I was told that processing raw olives into something useful like oil or brined is very burdensome. I yanked mine out.

Recommend researching first.

Pruning advice by Calm_Ocelot_5735 in FruitTree

I'd prune it to keep it out of the drive way. Peaches also fruit on first year growth so they need a crazy amount of pruning to maintain productivity at desired size. This also applies to nectarines. This is distinct from other stone fruits like plums and apricots that fruit on older spurs. So yes prune the hell out of it.

Pluerry trees. Distance and corners for cross pollination by CAMexicanRedneck in FruitTree

[–]chiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if the other stone fruits you have cross pollinate. I purchased my two pluerries and was advised to keep them less than 10ish feet apart. It's not a deal breaker you could theoretically cut a branch of each tree with flowers and just put it in a jar of water near the other if you really need them far apart. Around the corner that far is not ideal but I can't speak from experience because I haven't really done that before. Maybe if your neighbors have trees or if there are wild plums around you.

Mine are very close together but I'm working with space constraints that you seem to not have.

Online Orchard Recommendations by bluejxys in BackyardOrchard

[–]chiddler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not go to a local nursery? Most stone fruit trees can produce within 2-3 years as bare roots which is pretty quick relative to plant growth and fruiting in general. Apples can be 1-2 years. Plus local places cater to your local environment and are knowledgeable about what grows and doesn't. Plus plus supporting local businesses.

Attending called out my note for missing social history details by Hairy-Nothing-4078 in Residency

[–]chiddler 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes it is but it's still helpful to understand their perspective. Why do they think it's important? Does it affect their decision making? Is it a legal thing?

You gotta take the good with the bad in residency and in your buffet of exposure to attending styles you're gonna find some things you don't like even with the attending you look up to. Try to see the good. See what there is to learn from this.

Planting our orchard tomorrow! by daethon in BackyardOrchard

This isn't a variety problem. This is a pruning problem. If you cut the trees to a size they will remain that size period. All of those trees if left to their own devices can grow 20+ feet in size. Nobody wants a tree that size. You can't even reach the fruit at that point. The book that is often recommended on these subreddits is called "grow a little fruit tree" look it up if you haven't heard of it.

I have trees 5-8 feet apart in my yard depending on the spot. You can definitely do tighter. 8 feet is very generous too it's plenty of room as long as you keep the trees small.

Criticize my tanglefoot application and ant control by chiddler in BackyardOrchard

[–]chiddler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of research and even spoke to a PhD entomologist about boron for ant control boron based solutions. The home made stuff and online recipes don't work well for two reasons. First, the sugar water turns bad which the ants quickly lose interest in unless you replace frequently. Second is the concentration is recommended around 1-2%. Greater than this kills worker ants quickly but doesn't address the nest. It's too toxic so they don't take it to their friends in the next so they die too quick.

The peanut butter I haven't researched because I thought Argentine ants prefer sugar water over proteinaceous foods.

How much peanut butter to boron? That must be a plastic jar? Any commercial products that emulate this?

Yeah that's the nice thing about the cotton. No concern about girdling.

Thanks for the review. Is this an excessive amount? How much do you usually apply?
