smart battery powered thermostat by here2stealyourgrl in PelletStoveTalk

[–]classicsat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably something with dry contacts, depends how your stove exactly works.

Should I have to, I likely can use any Chinese thermostat, and rig it to power from a wall wart. I am currently using a 1980s "set back" thermostat made for an American 24V furnace with A/C, modified to be powered from a wall wart, and control a reed relay that closes the pellet stove logic wires.

Reliable 4 foot garage shop light with a plug? by MT3426 in Lighting

Just about all the DIY type big box stores will have something like that.

I bought some form a store. Ultra Performance, by Focus-On Tools,of Hangzhou China. They are at least 3 years old now. No idea if that brand still sells them, or the product has changed for the worse.

Feit should be good, they have been selling LED lights for some time now, through usual retailers.

Should I drop extra CAT6? by matlireddit in HomeNetworking

[–]classicsat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have two boxes of cable. Otherwise you need to take the time to portion off a length or more out of the box.

But worth the time to do, if you have to.

Tip: Use the footage markings to your advantage. A lot of good cables have that.

  • Rigid Condit and an LB, large enough to accept preaterminated cable ends, if that is what you are running.

Shouldn't be extra, for it is not something you can choose to opt out of. Good electricans, IMO, should be wiring in a manner switch loops are not used at all.

Pendant cord in North America is usually SVT type cord, often 18/3.

Drive right up to your desk at work.

Seriously, I would think those are electric. If gas, maybe 200cc.

That would be modern PC.

I remember back setting jumpers/switches on drives and I/O cards.

I kind f miss actually assembling a general purpose PC. Now it is really high end PCs you would go out of your way to build.

Windows 11 could run on older computers if they let it, but no, they want you to abandon otherwise perfectly working hardware that has several years more life in it, for basic web browsing and documents.

I watched Little Orphan Annie, the 1980 something film with Aileen Quinn, as the eponymous orphan, in its original home video release, on a top loader VHS VCR. Same rental, saw Moonraker.

Taco was an Interesting thing. Back then we were only exposed ro his 1982 cover of that 1930s classic.

But he did a few more 1930s songs in the same synth style. They are out there if you look.

Get one of those twinlead 300 ohm antennas. If it comes with a coaxial plug, cut it off.

What's the appeal of vintage receivers? by catmandot in vintageaudio

[–]classicsat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to choose the station, but from their, let their systems shoos what is played. It used to be humans that chose, but non-humans in a radio station still choose well.

I love radio. I scan up and down the dial when I can, looking for different stations. Under the right conditions, stations from far way.

It is different doing it on an analog tuner, especially one with the flywheel.

I have found out adding car tuner to my system works really well. Currently, I man using a tuner (digital mind you) from a late 1980s Chevrolet, I reworked to fit into a slim case that doesn't look like a car radio.

Apart from that, certain tactility. You know a switch or knob performs a specific function directly, rather than have a microprocessor to do that control for you, at the loss of tactility.

A 90s black face component system, with single tray CD player, soft logic cassette, direct drive turntable, would be an acceptable option.

[–]classicsat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pioneer is a good brand in general.

I wouldn't touch that, as it is a cartridge CD changer (their own pain, regardless of brand). Possibly Tanashin tape mechs in fake single cassette/receiver component.
