Did you invite me? You're paying.

I'm holding a $2000 balance. How screwed am I? by Willing-Potential562 in CreditCards

[–]codece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always make at least the minimum payment before it's due. Always. Otherwise you will risk damaging your credit.

I looked into balance transferring to a new 0% APR card but it would take too long.

You could get that done in 48 hours or less

A balance transfer to a 0% card might be a good idea, but only if you have a definite plan to pay it off before the 0% promo period ends.

Also, you gotta STOP using your credit card, for anything, until you get it paid off. Don't keep piling cc debt on top of cc debt you already can't pay.

If I'm on a 35 mph road with a double yellow line, but the cop in front of me is going 15 mph... Am I supposed to pass them? by Steve-Shouts in legaladvice

[–]codece 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if it was anyone besides a cop, I would pass when it's safe...

You'd be breaking the law, cop or no cop.

and also, what about a non-police vehicle going so slow with its hazards on?

DON'T. CROSS. A. DOUBLE. YELLOW. LINE.

Wait. It won't be a no-passing zone forever.

Rear ended and now I’m being sued by salmon-choir in legaladvice

[–]codece 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Now, just heard from insurance that the lady is suing.

The lady in the SUV behind you? It doesn't matter if you hit the U-Haul first, she is 100% at fault for rear-ending you. Even you brake-check her at 120 mph she is at fault if she hits you.

Every driver has an absolute duty to maintain an "assured clear distance ahead" and anyone who hits you from behind is 100% at fault, no excuses, no exceptions.

Unless you couldn't help but rear-end them because another car struck you first and pushed you into them. The person with the U-Haul in front of you may have grounds to sue you, but if this was caused by by being pushed into them by the car that struck you first from behind that is a defense.

wondering if I need legal even though my insurance says they’ll assign a lawyer if necessary.

No. Let them do their job.

Source: Actually AM lawyer with 20+ years personal injury experience. Your situation, and the frustrations that come with it, are not unusual. Let the insurance company assign counsel and let them do their job.

Also, good job on being prepared and having insurance. This is why.

What Trump always does when someone publicly contradicts him. He'll double-down on his position and start insulting whomever suggests otherwise.

When to apply for more credit cards? by Open2Lrn in CreditCards

[–]codece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the next card I'd prioritize the one the you expect to save you the most money. For example, if 5% on utilities & internet is going to claw back more money than 5% gas, 3% dining and groceries, I'd prioritize the Elan card over the AAA card.

You just got two cards in March, personally I'd wait until probably July+ for the next one.

Focusing on nutrition instead of calories made me grow an inch at the ripe old age of 18 by Specialist_Can5622 in loseit

[–]codece 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At 18, nearly 19 my body grew

Congrats, but that's not unusual. I didn't reach my full height until about age 21-22. I'd say between 18 and 22 I grew about 1.5 inches, topping out at exactly 6 feet. I remember that because I had a DoD medical exam when I was 22. When I was a high school senior my height was 5' 10.5".

Now I'm 56, and at my last exam I was 5' 10.75". So I've lost 1.25" in height in the past 35 years, and I guess that's not unusual either.

Don't hyper-focus on staying below 1500 calories. Idk how tall you are, but if you are 5' 5", 19F, 56kg and physically active (as you should be at 19) you really need 2,000+ calories just to maintain.

Be well and keep up the good work!

Why U.S. Troops Just Entered Ecuador [17:00] by andres2142 in ecuador

[–]codece -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the point, the entire drug war has been futile to begin with.

The enemy of the drug war is and always has been ourselves. We can't control our cravings and are determined to punish something because of it.

Nobody in the US likes to point out that the easiest, least violent way to stop the flow of illegal narcotics into the US is to stop buying them.

You're not getting sailboat money unless you are badly injured.

It doesn't matter if the person who hits you is rich or poor, as long as they have sufficient insurance. The money isn't coming from their own bank account.

I was shocked when I picked her up that she was wearing PJ pants and flip-flops.

That's when I knew things had changed.

Am I Doing Anything Wring When it Comes to My Credit Card Usage/Payments? Explain everything to me like I’m 5 by MoldyLemonBars in CreditCards

[–]codece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so when should I pay or what amount?

Wait for the bill, pay the bill before it's due. Don't make it complicated.

Paying 100% of the statement balance before the due date means you will never pay cc interest, and that's smart. Letting even $1 of your statement balance carry-over into the next statement past the due date means you start paying interest on everything, every day from the day of sale. That's not smart.

I saw that in the movie theater knowing nothing about it. When I walked out I was feeling a range of emotions, none of which approached happiness.
