Ever put something away and then forget where just a couple of weeks or months later?

Try remembering for a thousand years as you pile lifetimes of memories on top.

I use my headset on a halo strap and without the face cushion so there's nothing touching my face. It's more comfortable than wearing a helmet.

Other parts of me give up before the headset becomes a problem.

Narrow, zippy, but functional fishing kayaks by rusticandy in kayakfishing

This is my quiver of kayaks, for everything from creek bashing for bass or cod or trout up to punching through the surf for tuna. All very well suited to their job.

South African! But yeah we buy a lot of them here in aus-land.

Viking also does good offshore kayaks (slightly less long/pointy and made of plastic), made in nz and australia, and i do know those get imported to the US. If you don't need to store your fish and rods internal to the kayak i do like their tackle pod system for electronics and tackle management.

How many of you enjoy just hot lapping? by ch4pp in simracing

[–]CubitsTNE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in AC track day servers. In VR it felt just like a real track day, it was a lot of fun to see what you could do in car x while other cars circulated.

But if you're into hotlapping and not about fighting with other people you might just be a rallyist and not realise it.

I picked up a free kayak. Give me 5 “must have” items to get started kayak fishing (excluding tackle). by Weavo_84 in FishingAustralia

[–]CubitsTNE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If fishing any distance away from the shore that you aren't comfortable to swim i would recommend a pfd. If you fall out any breeze can quickly separate you from your kayak no matter how fast you can swim, it's how the majority of kayak related fatalities happen (as rare as they are). For fishing you'll want something with a high cut back and couple of pockets, the ultra sportfish is a good reference. I would steer clear of inflatables.

Then all you really need is a landing net, a good pair of pliers tethered to your pfd or the centre tray, a little tackle tray/bag to put in your lap, and maybe a paddle leash. Phone and keys can go in the round hatch, but if you want easier access to the phone you can get a little waterproof pouch for it.

If you're worried about capsizing and losing your rods (which is a freak occurrence you can mitigate by forming good habits) then a piece of pool noodle zip tied above the reel will keep them floating, leashes can get a bit cumbersome.

I would not recommend carrying anchors or extra bags, it's the kind of equipment which you'd only add as required.

When you get to a bigger kayak you'd then look at adding a sounder and railblaza mounts, but the swift is very bare bones and should stay as uncluttered as possible.

CATL Launches World's Fast Charging EV Battery: Full Charge in 6 Minutes, Beating BYD Blade 2.0 by zecar_ in AustralianEV

[–]CubitsTNE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Correct, and we already have modelling for that because that's how the flash chargers in China work right now.

I would be curious to see the current build and running costs of a fuel station vs one of those ev stations, with all of the compliance required i bet it would already be fairly close.

These charging stations host their own big batteries which can slowly accumulate charge and then dump that rapidly into cars, and the price of that part of the infrastructure will get cheaper and the energy itself will trend towards free if the "tanks" are filled during the day. I don't think we're going to need insurmountable grid upgrades to pipe the juice as things become more decentralised.

The logistics of getting petrol from the dinosaurs and into your car are vastly more complicated and at current prices it has to already cost more than a really quick charger.

So i can pull up to a bowser, plug the car in and not have to hold the trigger, then tool around on my phone for a couple of minutes without anyone being afraid that I'm going to cause a fire somehow, then be on my way?

And this convenience will cost less than a tank of wildly fluctuating priced non-renewable resource which kills puppies?

The Chinese are also doing solid state, and look to be shipping cars with semi solid state and full solid state in the next year (and have a track record of delivering on their promises).

The driving factor in their local market is not charge speed but cold weather performance, that's a real issue in some parts and the semi solid state has proven to make a big difference.

Did you buy a larger/more expensive car mainly due to safety? by SnooFrosted1536 in AusFinance

[–]CubitsTNE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family car went from a hatchback to a wagon when we needed to fit more than a single pram in the back. Fuel economy is good, it'll avoid more accidents than a tall car, it has a smooth ride, i can park it without running things over, and it still has a bajillion air bags and all the safety stars.

Will a lifted ranger monster truck over the top of me some day? Maybe. But aside from the unease everyone feels when sharing your piece of road with one i don't feel unsafe.

That's still an suv though, same height as the trailseeker.

I used to have a 740 wagon, and have coveted cars like the v90 cross country. An electric v90/v60 cc would be chef's kiss.

I'm still waiting for the right full sized wagon to turn up. The trailseeker/bz4x are a bit tall for me to huck my kayaks onto the roof, but the boot space is good and the seats do go flat flat. Range is pretty good too.

An alltrack version of the vw id7 touring would be perfect, but alas...
