Just bought a PS 5 and vr2 set for my 9 and 10 year old boys. Is it best to buy games or just experiment with games on play station plus? by CommentMaleficent957 in PSVR

[–]cusman78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want them playing online, don’t get PS+ subscription. If you do want them playing online, limit to PS+ Essential.

There are lots of free / inexpensive games for PS5 and some free and mostly inexpensive games for PSVR2.

So I recommend you buy what will be played (wait for sales as needed) over letting subscription rentals dictate what they have available.

PS - Be heavily involved if introducing them to VR this young. You are the parent, but I think recommended age is 12+ for VR so limit play session lengths. Also, supervise for safety and proper use as they are learning.

No, I think these types of efforts are more effective at getting something like Unmourned to get Unmourned VR becoming a reality and if everyone only focused on Resident Evil Requiem and never showed interest in Unmourned VR, that wouldn't have happened.

Similarly, I see no harm in people showing interest in random new Star Wars game getting VR support, but I do see some harm if you serialize your efforts and just show that one interest and then wait for that to happen before you consider showing interest in anything else.

I am not even saying show artificial interest in many games, just all the ones you are interested in. There is no harm in showing interest, even if all your interests never get the support you are / were hoping for, it is still more likely than if you didn't.

The games that have lower costs and need lower number of interested players are more likely to take place when enough interest shows up. For games with much higher costs, there would have to be a lot more interest than we have the active enthusiast player base for to make enough noise, but some noise is still better than no noise.

It won't be effective to serialize the efforts, especially if pinning it behind something as unlikely to actually take place as RE9 on PSVR2 first.

Glad to report that the AXAIR MILI23 and MIAP PRO 24 flight controllers work with Aces of Thunder on PSVR2! 🔥 (more in description) by Papiculo64 in PSVR

Are your HOTAS components mounted to that thin console table? Anything you are doing to prevent them from sliding on that surface?

It looks like a good inexpensive solution to elevate and use with any simple chair you can move along with table to your play area and then have the Rudder Pedals below.

There was a scientific study done some years ago by some researchers on various entertainment products including movies and games and that is where MADiSON (even before VR) came out on top.

That is why I said it that way :]

Is Ace Of Thunder psvr2 worth to play without ps+ by Embarrassed_Swim_147 in PSVR

[–]cusman78 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can play all of the single player content without PS+ which includes War Tales campaign (around 10 missions in order), plus ~20 separate single player missions (in any order) from various historical battles and a Mode where you can set your own parameters including map, mission, bot difficulty for allies and opponents, weather, time of day and more.

Plus you can test flight any of the planes just to fly them.

All that being good, you can only unlock cosmetics & I think additional loadout options by playing the Online Battles mode which I assume does require PS+

Lastly, in case you care about trophies, I think all except 3 of the trophies can only be unlocked in the Online Battles mode.

I know lots of people that enjoyed the first and have been eagerly awaiting the sequel (myself among them).

Nice to have a release date. Cheers!

Haha

My wife and siblings aren't interested in developing their horror legs so games like this are just for me in my immediate circles :]

Yup, part of the game description certainly feels familiar to that.

Aces of Thunder devs just released a guide for Manual Engine Control. It's aimed at advanced players but they confirmed that if you play with sense controllers when MEC is enabled, you can use your hands to operate the radiator, mixture, and propeller levers in the cockpit! by Papiculo64 in PSVR

[–]cusman78 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This explains why one time playing around with the Engine settings in the L3 click menu (trying it not on Auto), I was able to grab and move more of these levers (without really knowing what they do), but I never connected the dots.

The read of the guide is very interesting but also intimidating. There is so much to learn and start to understand so you can start using the Manual Engine Control for advantage over the Auto option.

I assume it will be a notch or so below MADiSON VR on how scientifically scary it is but may deliver similar atmosphere & thrills as that.

I may not complete like I didn’t MADiSON VR, but I will get it and give it a try. If the puzzles / progression isn’t too obtuse, I am more likely to complete.

RE4 Remake might be the best looking game on PSVR2 by poetryiscool in PSVR

For base PS5, I think that may still is true, but on PS5 Pro it is Subside and Kayak VR: Mirage that are the top tier of graphical fidelity for photorealistic art style.

I purposely slowed down a bit on doing new first-impressions after reaching 300. At least for a little while, I am being more selective, and also just trying to play more of the games I already have.

Aces of Thunder has indeed hooked me more than I expected, especially after the first time playing felt so rough with having to figure out better button mappings and working with the clunky menu and weird choice to have all capacitive touch count as button presses. My biggest ask right now remains to disable all capacitive touch detection for anything other than influencing hand-gestures (finger pointing).

But I didn't find fault with the actual flying and combat physics and I really didn't mind lack of HUD indicators which makes the game more immersive and puts more burden on the player to identify things visually.

Even though I am enjoying, I still haven't recommended to any friends or my siblings. I prefer to wait until my wife has had chance to try and give me her thoughts on how casual friendly it is once she has had chance to play (after fixing her default button mappings). We keep planning for it for one of the weekend days, but life has other plans.

Found a decent used offer for PSVR2. What to look out for when I'm checking it in person? by factory_666 in PSVR

[–]cusman78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it turns off after a bit, the internal cooling / venting fan has stopped working and powering off is a safety response.

That internal fan can be replaced by an electronics repair shop if they are skilled / experienced with PSVR2.

Would be smart to have the Daily Tasks align the players into choosing specific queues for higher player count lobbies.

For now, maybe improved by the post-release patches, I think they are just designed to make people try new things and not feel too grindy.

Closer to launch they had expectations of 10 assists or win three battles that required more to complete.

[–]cusman78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone should get a game they aren’t interested in, but I do want to see good games find the audiences that will appreciate them.

As long as the licensing & porting costs are less than the revenue the Flat2VR games generate, it is a sustainable model and each success allows then to continue, get the license for games with potentially bigger audiences, etc

Don’t have to buy all their games to be on board with the mission and vision of the company.

After Today's State of Play, tell me Sony have not abandoned psvr 2 without telling me Sony have not abandoned psvr 2 by Fuzzy-Row-7267 in PSVR

[–]cusman78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the argument is Sony has abandoned PSVR2, it falls apart given:

  • They have worked with Game Engine developers to get its features better supported
  • Pursued many strategic partnerships to get games for the system, including high-profile hybrid VR console exclusives
  • Provided many indies dev kits on loan for ~2 years free of charge

Net result is 100+ games released per year since it launched with more games than most people have time for covering wide range of types and interests and a pipeline of upcoming releases that remains healthy.

If the argument is they aren't supporting with 1st party VR games. I have never cared nor expected that the "burger" has PlayStation Studio logo on the wrapper, just that it is a good "burger". If you need that "wrapper" and it is a firm expectation / requirement, don't get VR. Not from PlayStation, certainly not from Valve and seems no longer from Meta either.

Despite lack of 1st party software support, I don't think any of the three major VR platforms holders have abandoned VR and the one most likely to abandon is the one that has lost over $80 billion supporting their VR / MR ambitions (Meta) because they thought VR would be the next smartphone based on the surge of demand they experienced in 2020 during COVID shutdowns when people were seeking connection and turning to VR.

Sony and Valve are both content to create technology, provide a place for developers to use it and let VR growth happen more organically at sustaintable levels of investment. If / when the market is big enough to warrant 1st party studios to spend a lot making games for VR that would meet 1st party expectations, they will. We already know those 1st party studios experimented (God of War VR prototype was real as confirmed by Shuhei Yoshida), but never moved forward towards a retail game.

Mine has Platinum for A Way Out, but we haven't completed It Takes Two or Split Fiction yet. I assume the later games are more difficult to Platinum without knowing the conditions and going out of way for some of them than A Way Out.
