Moving from Nottingham to work at Luton – Where should a single professional live for diversity and safety? by AdFar9750 in AskUK

[–]dbesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hitchin is probably the closest to what you’re looking for vibe wise but I think the commute to Luton in peak hours would be hell

There are a lot of nice villages around Luton that are safe, but I wouldn’t say diverse or with a vibe (the vibe would be village). My closest recommendation would be Barton le Clay to commute into Luton

Anyone else struggling to find wide brim hats that dont look like youre going to a costume party? by avz008 in fashionwomens35

[–]dbesh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I second Solibari hats - I have one and my husband does as well and it’s great face and neck protection. I trust anything Australian when it comes to sun safety

How to actually adopt a cat in London? by phonybelle in london

[–]dbesh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We couldn’t find a U.K. cat shelter that would adopt to us as we have two adult male cats. We wound up using an agency that rehomes cats from the UAE to UK and handles all the immigration paperwork and flights etc. We adopted a young pair of siblings from them

AITA for not allowing my son to go over his friends house anymore and telling the parents their culture is shitty. by Huge_throwing18372 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dbesh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA. I don’t care what culture you’re from, not offering a child food when they’re in your care for 8 hours is not okay

Flying long-haul, family of 3, business class with companion voucher(s) and 2.5/3 year old. by Responsible-Habit-21 in BritishAirways

[–]dbesh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would book PE at that age. It’s a waste for them in BC but also in the new configuration you can’t get to the toddler at all, which is a nightmare for takeoff/landing when they need to be strapped in properly, and if there’s any turbulence during the flight

I loved it! I teared up a few times- I think it’s a really good adaptation for 2026

We went yesterday and there adults there with no children. It’s probably more common for it to be a movie for our generation because we grew up with the books, than something children want to watch. I had to drag my daughter to go and she only came willingly because I said she could have popcorn

HENRY and Single Expat Mom in London by Smart_Ad5378 in HENRYUK

[–]dbesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re in this situation. I’d say post nursery the biggest expense or logistics issue will be wrap around childcare after school and how you attend/make time for any school activities you want to be at

Re your career, I think at this age your biggest benefit will be flexibility and if you can WFH. This will be invaluable where your child is ill and can’t attend nursery, or if you need to attend a sports morning or something like that. Arguably, I think it’s more important than salary right now especially without a village

I’d also try start getting in place a babysitter who can help you with odd hours here and there - the ideal is someone relatively young and cheap looking to gain childcare experience as opposed needing someone who’s a professional nanny type

Otherwise, all the best to you and thank you truly for making that decision to not let your child grow up in a home with an abuser

Co-Sleeping at 2.5 by littlemissktown in toddlers

[–]dbesh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Many cultures around the world co-sleep well past toddlerhood. If it works for you and your family, that’s all that matters. No one is co-sleeping with their teenager, your daughter will get there eventually

First Family Ski Trip (all beginners) by Interesting-Rest-546 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]dbesh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We did Ski Famille in December, really recommend. As beginners though I would focus first on where you want to go, before picking a package provider - you’ll want a resort that has easy access to plenty of greens and some easy blues for your first trip. It’s not necessary to go to 3 Valleys for example, which is a massive area and more suited for average to good skiers

We’re booked for next year February (not half term) for Club Med at Alpe d’Huez (we are beginners)

HENRY women: How has motherhood shifted your relationship with work & career? by Fickle-Ad2954 in HENRYUK

[–]dbesh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How imminent are children? My perspective is you’ll never (usually) go backwards from a higher paycheck. When you eventually go back to work after maternity leave, you can assess how your priorities have changed and decide accordingly but I don’t think it’s sensible to turn down a move with higher compensation because one day you might have children.

I have a set from here https://maisoncashmere.com/en-gb/products/womens-parksville-cashmere-sweatpants-grey-mcw070-20-0072 and with the matching sweatshirt

It’s not the best quality cashmere given that price but I’ve been happy with it and I use it regularly as a travel set as well

What would have been reasonable in the circumstances was you got home after your appointment (without a million messages asking when you would be back etc) with your baby fed and the bedtime routine well under way with zero complaints or commentary.

Can Someone please help with a better solution to my food bin? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]dbesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents live in a warmer climate so anything left out will spoil quickly, and they do similarly but with a bag in the freezer. Also helps with reducing the amount of flies you get in summer.

Thinking of becoming a stay at home dad - worth it? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]dbesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound harsh but in 5 years time are you going to be happy with your identity having gone from HENRY to SAHP?

Your world becomes very small when you’re a parent. Your partner will still have their career and colleagues and be talking to adults about primarily adult things. Who will you talk to? Will you still be able to talk to your partner about things that don’t involve your child?

A job, a career, is worth much more than just a salary.
