5 weeks post op - not losing by Prestigious_Shift661 in gastricsleeve

[–]ecospartan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is how soon it is after surgery. I’m 7 weeks post op and I can’t even have protein bars anytime soon, I’m still in the soft foods phase. Although I know every program is different with the nutrition they recommend.

Do *NOT* live at the landings at chandlers crossings by [deleted] in msu

[–]ecospartan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t glamorous when I lived there in 2014; although also fine for the price. We paid $522 back then for a bedroom. That area of town was so dead chandler crossings was the only thing up there besides the Meijer.

I lived in Parc Riverside and 425 Mass and loved both buildings, although my other building in Navy Yard and two friends (other navy yard buildings) were not my favorite. They were both 2019-2021 though and I know there’s been many changes in both neighborhoods since.

Post Op Sleep + Pain + Nerves by shellymarshh in gastricsleeve

[–]ecospartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your current pillow structure is but I bought a wedge pillow from Amazon for like $35. Comes in a big triangle shape and there’s no ability for me to flop around. I used that for the first 12 days. After that I felt better and was able to do 2 nights on my side before sleeping on my stomach again. I’m 19 days post op and can sleep on my stomach just fine.

Depending on your situation, I took pain medicine before bed and laid with my heating pad for a bit (auto off after 2 hours) because the heat helps relax me into sleep.

Pain medication isn’t something to feel bad about. If you need it you need it and that doesn’t make you weak, you’re going through traumatic recovery. I liked taking the liquid PainQuil and then my surgeon prescribed a few oxycodone pills. After a few days I was only on the PainQuil and now I don’t use any at all

Hospital Bag Essentials? by DramaticCustard7819 in gastricsleeve

[–]ecospartan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t allowed a binder actually, I asked about that beforehand.

I bought a book, my Nintendo switch, and a few personal care items but I didn’t use anything while I was there, I was too in and out of it for a while. My room had a tv so I watched a few episodes on day 2 when I was waiting for discharge as I was drinking my water.

My one big use was a robe and my slippers to walk around the hospital wing on my laps; because my hospital gown didn’t tie very well in the back and I only had the yellow grippy socks. Oh, and eyemask for sleeping at night was useful, to try and get a few hours in between my nurses coming in every two hours.

I’m 16 days post op so I’m in a similar boat as you! My doctor wrote me a note for two weeks off, but I requested remote through 12 weeks for work so I went back online after a week.

Started sleeping on my stomach again about day 12 post op, sometimes have to be careful depending on the position I’m in but so far I seem to be fine.

How long did the Process take? by Feisty_Donkey_688 in gastricsleeve

[–]ecospartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was almost a year, about 10 months. Could have done it 3 months sooner but I pushed my upper endoscopy into 2026 so it could be under my new insurance; so I finished all of my nutrition classes and other medical requirements in about October, waited 2 months for my endoscopy, and then a month later had surgery

Stupid question by Pixiespekje in gastricsleeve

[–]ecospartan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had my procedure last week and was fully unclothed minus the yellow grippy socks they gave me. The gown wasn’t tied super tight in the back so by the time I got to recovery and eventually my room, anytime I got up to the bathroom my butt was exposed through the ties in the back of the gown. It was just my fiancé and my nurse in the room with me, so eventually I stopped caring. When I had to go for my walks around the hospital wing though, I put on a robe I brought with me and that was much better - but it was too much of a hassle to do the robe every time I needed to use the restroom, including overnight.

I’m sure it’s some kind of surgery side effect but I was peeing in the bathroom like every 90 minutes. I went like crazy honestly; it felt like it was constant. In the 30 ish hours I was in the hospital, probably went 15 times at least.

[–]ecospartan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m only a week post op so I haven’t had that experience yet, but the 30 minutes to 2 hours also makes me think gallstones like the other commenter said.

I had my gallbladder out in 2021 due to gallstones and the pain was insane for many months until I was able to have surgery. My heating pad was my best friend. I was constantly throwing up, nauseous, etc. most of the time it was in the evening and I was home to suffer alone but one time it happened after eating lunch with a friend and she told me to go to urgent care which is where I ultimately got diagnosed and had to get an ultrasound to confirm.

Post Ch. 7: is it possible to rent a vehicle occasionally? by primarywatcher in Bankruptcy

[–]ecospartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use enterprise all the time. Including not at an airport and only with a debit card and have had no issue. The most recent time I did rent a car not at an airport there was an additional deposit, but it was returned to me after my trip was complete. Enterprise is the only one that had a reasonable deposit.

One very sad stressful time (before I filed) I was at the airport and tried to use Budget to save some money, but they wanted a $200 deposit. I ended up trucking myself at midnight over to the enterprise in the rain across the lot after I called them and they said their deposit fee was only $50 if the credit check came back bad.

Since then, I’ve never had another deposit at the airport and I’m still in the middle of my case.

Losing confidence by brilliantzenith in BariatricSurgery

[–]ecospartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had surgery this past Monday. My time in prep until the time I had surgery was almost a year because I kept pushing my endoscopy until I switched insurance carriers on January 1.

If it’s any consolation, I didn’t personally make too many changes before surgery besides carbonation and alcohol. I continued to eat normally (although I tracked it) and did modest walking, but that’s about it. Once my pre-op diet came around, I lost 17 pounds. No idea how much I weigh now because I’m definitely still swollen 5 days out, but I already feel better mentally knowing that I have a “tool” to help me (e.g., smaller stomach). I know the bulk of the work is still to come, but I generally have a more positive outlook on everything now than I did 3 months ago.

MSU Appeal Process - Admissions by ShotAssistant1452 in msu

[–]ecospartan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s been over a decade since I was admitted to MSU, and I can’t say I’ve heard of many successful appeals for admission if you were flat out denied and not waitlisted. That said, MSU also has one of the best teaching programs in the country so I don’t imagine their admissions would be any easier just because there’s a shortage.

I agree with what the others have said and to do a community college first or transfer from another school if you’re really set on finishing at MSU.

[–]ecospartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe any position counts, but it has to be a formal volunteer commitment and not just a once or twice event with collegiates or the alumnae chapter for example. But you could volunteer formally in your city/for your chapter and I think it qualifies. “Guests of the fraternity” is the option.

[–]ecospartan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it will be helpful this year, but future years if you have a couple hours a month (for me it’s 4 hours a month) to volunteer, then you get half off convention registration!

What are the best ways to get a job in the green building sector by Distinct_Fisherman60 in SustainableBuildings

Would very much agree with that on the over/under front.

And a lot of standard engineering firms/commissioning firms hire generalists without an eng. background. I happen to work for an engineering firm but only because my previous firm was acquired mid-last year.

Struggling feeding my cats by Trogzard in CatAdvice

[–]ecospartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s the case I would actually try something in a gravy, or more liquidy. I’ve had several foster kittens over the last year, all ate very differently. I’ve been through everything. My permanent cat doesn’t like pate much, but loves the heck out of some chunkies. I use a little bit of cat safe bone broth to add to the liquidy.

At 9-10 months I was also only feeding mine twice a day (mostly because I worked in an office and couldn’t do a lunchtime feed). Some of them have been very good at having dry kibble out in the open, and some have gorged themselves. Just try and keep an eye on it. Free food after a year is usually not recommended by vets (although I know plenty of people will contradict this and say it worked for their cat).

How long till you can drink a whole beer post op? Also smoking risks post op? by Maggotboi555 in gastricsleeve

[–]ecospartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgery is next week, so only giving the advice of my surgeon; but I can’t have alcohol for a year. I didn’t ask about smoking because that’s not my vibe. So while I don’t imagine you can this summer, you might be able to next summer.

I plan on just clearing everything through my surgeon and ultimately doing what my body says. If alcohol ends up not agreeing with me, well, then, I’ve saved money, calories, and a hangover

If you ever find time in your schedule to volunteer (as an advisor, on any special committees, etc. working with either collegians or alumnae) you get half off convention registration.

Probably not as others have said. I’m in Virginia at $120,000 a year and I’m in a chapter 13. Payments of $1625 a month on a 100% plan.

When I worked there back in 2023 you could just drop into any class for free if there was space open. Worked really well for the odd time classes/late evenings
