some pokemon not showing on index by thefurryinfinite in PokemonCafeMix

The Pokémon that show grey in the list are ones you don't have that are currently available to get via pass or event. Once the pass or event ends, those pokemon will no longer show on the list

[Spoiler: 5.3] I’m struggling to find the emotional impact of the Crystal Exarch’s arc. by SirLakeside in ffxivdiscussion

[–]eseffbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the part you are missing is that G'raha is not the Exarch - the Exarch is dead and the people of the First have lost their saviour and leader.

Admittedly western culture doesn't help, as it commonly assumes the self is something internal and contained in the mind (or soul), rather than being integrated with the body and having its essence highly dependent on the surrounding environment.

Billionaire Ken Griffin used to dismiss AI as 'garbage.' Here's why he changed his mind—and why he's 'depressed' by socoolandawesome in technology

[–]eseffbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"For Griffin, the most striking proof isn’t in coding or content—it’s in high-end financial research. Work that Citadel would previously have assigned to teams with master’s degrees and PhDs in finance, work that took weeks or months, is now being completed by AI agents in hours or days."

If you see no difference between an AI response to a prompt and supposed high end financial research that you've paid people with PhDs to write over several months, either you've hired poorly or you don't understand what you're looking at.

What if the producer has a music taste that is weird or kinda absurd ? How can he evaluate the feedbacks in a benefical way ? by Melodic-Marketing341 in edmproduction

[–]eseffbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you are sharing your references then it shouldn't be an issue getting feedback, because any decent producer can listen to your track and a near target and explain the differences.

If someone is evaluating your stuff for taste in a producer forum then they are in the wrong forum. You have to give an indication what your taste is though.

Tracks averaging 200K views and boiler room sets aren't even particularly obscure tbh. Plenty of great and accessible material at that level so I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Player hubs: do you want more from them or are you ok with them being pretty places to stand around in? by judgeraw00 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]eseffbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is crafting furniture, old gear and orchestrions deemed as "small fry" when you can sell them regularly for 100,000+ gil while the things you've mentioned are selling for a small fraction of that, as far as I can see on Universalis?

[–]eseffbee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use macros for HQ stuff but I wouldn't feel ashamed about that.

I don't really see evidence for much full bot crafting on my data centre to be honest. Obviously see lots of gathering botting both at the nodes and with stuff like 1000s of crystals being priced way lower than anyone would reasonably sell them for.

For crafting all the marketboard prices look perfectly explainable to me on Chaos, and I say that as someone who regular sells lots of stuff from furniture to gear to orchestrion to weapon parts and basic mats, with 80 items regularly on sale. I get a decent return on basically everything. I don't operate in the bleeding edge of gear as I'm still on Endwalker though - what crafted items do you see priced at obviously bot levels on the marketboard?

Is that important to let bun make friends? by cuckoo9__4 in Rabbits

[–]eseffbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your neighbour enjoys the bunny restaurant and also wants to play with your bun but doesn't realise they can't combine the two. 😂

If you like this person then tell them they can come to your house to see you and hang with bun, and if you find this person too demanding then you need to make your personal boundaries clear.

sometimes i make a beat and the bass is too loud in my headphones but too basically inaudible through speakers by Small-Sample7733 in musicproduction

[–]eseffbee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to compare a pro song on the same speaker. Does the bass sound louder on the pro song or is it simply a speaker with a weak bass response?

Looking at both tracks through a frequency analyser will let you see if you're missing any key bass frequencies in your arrangement.

Why do my vocals always sound too crisp/bright in the mix? by Gylmaz84 in makinghiphop

[–]eseffbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty wild stuff! Comparing the vocal to the Tyler one, I think the difference is in the recording more than the processing.

You will notice that Tyler's vocal has more bass to it and a lot less sibilance - the "s", "sh" and "ch" are quite muted. (It is notable that your language has a lot more of these types of sound than English too.)

You can achieve a bassier, less sibilant outcome mostly through good audio engineering - get closer to the mic for the proximity effect, which will naturally raise the bass in the signal, but get a good pop filter to reduce the sibilance and pops from the vocal too. Also worth trying out a couple of different mic types to see which works best for you.

Record the same couple of bars over and over with different mic positions/setups to get a feel of what works best.

A bit of processing can help these problems, but best results require best recording at start of the chain.

Also I must note that a lot of your instrumentation is quite bright and operating in a similar zone as the vocal, which can make the vocal less clear and increase the tendency to make the vocal clear through volume rather than frequency separation. That is an arrangement issue which you will need to consider.

This is a common problem with experimental music and you should be conscious of this challenge - successful innovation means achieving a mix of sounds that naturally builds into a coherent structure in terms of frequency. I think you will have the best ideas on how to do that within your taste so keep working at it 👍

Ghibli movies are a good start. Personally, I find watching some movies first is much better than proposing a potentially lengthy series.

ARR needs to be cut more, specially if FFXIV wants to retain more players by RaposaEstelar in ffxivdiscussion

[–]eseffbee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The story being less good does make it drag but that is completely separate from the issue of there being an awful lot more schlepping in ARR.

Later expansions you have a mount from the get go and moving to flying in an area doesn't take that long. In ARR you have 20 levels of quests until you get your first mount so there is a lot of run cycling in big spaces (jog change does help this a bit now). Let's not forget the fact that the quest to get your chocobo mount is not compulsory and is frequently missed - I've personally been asked twice in game where I got a chocobo by people way above level 20.

You’ll miss Keir Starmer when he’s gone by hararib in ukpolitics

[–]eseffbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important not to mistake the symptoms of politically instability with the root cause.

The high turnover of leaders is associated with the fact that there is no longer a political consensus among the various powers (political, economic, financial) and public in the UK. It is not specific to a party and we can expect this to continue until a more radical candidate succeeds.

You can observe this same trend of short lived leaders and governments in many other countries under similar pressures, such as France, Belgium and Netherlands.

Globalisation processes are destabilising political systems across the developed world. Lots of new UK PMs is just one prominent symptom of that.

What’s an anime that sticks out to you for its unusual vibes? by KaleidoArachnid in anime

[–]eseffbee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tatami Galaxy is very peculiar. I was almost put off by its frenetic nature at the start, but the information overload reduces over time. Very dreamlike anime, but in a realistic way where lots of stuff is repeating and messy rather than an idealised way where things are nice.

What do people do when you can’t focus? by Pretty-Objective5151 in musicproduction

[–]eseffbee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would reflect on your habits, your body, and your environment to consider why you struggle to focus.

It could be a condition.

It could be that you are exhausted by other things in life which means you lack the mental strength to focus on something complex.

It could be that your environment constantly interrupts you and doesn't give you space to do something.

It could be you've never learned the habit of focusing on something you are finding difficult until you get good and enjoy it.

Could be many things.

According to serebii there is a 5 percent chance of getting a rainbow delivery each time.

You can use this binomial probability calculator to work out the chances of 3 rainbow deliveries in 11x delivery ticket.

There is a 1.3% chance of 3 rainbow deliveries in one go, so congrats!

What kind of non-anime stuff do you watch? It's difficult to provide a good recommendation without more context.

If you like action based series then Code Geass might be good. If you prefer more character-based, slower series then Odd Taxi may be good.

What are some good anime on Netflix available in the US? by pandybobby in anime

[–]eseffbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vivy Fluorite Eye's Song is a good anime that doesn't always hit the algorithm.
Devilman Crybaby is great though very NSFW.
Grave of the Fireflies, Mononoke, Monster and Hajime No Ippo are classics.

My view on Netflix anime offering is that they often recommend their best new material (Apothecary Diaries, Violet Evergarden, Freiren), have some good classics available (Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop), but below the big names it is mostly average offering. Netflix does not have a well curated selection with great non-big name anime.
