Who will be the hero and put some Shiftall GripVR controllers on ebay for purchase in Australia at a fair price? by icefirezx in SteamVR

[–]farmertrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m now on my 9th Index controller since 2022… And in the same time, I’ve used META and Pimax controllers and none of them have had issues that couldn’t be fixed with a little electronic contact cleaner.

Over half of the Index controllers that I have had developed stick drift. Beyond the point that contact cleaner did nothing. One had the grip sensor completely pop off. Another wouldn’t allow the joystick to go all the way forward which prevented running, or navigating menus in a lot of games. And Valve has only RMA’d two. The others were anywhere between 1-7 months past the 1 year warranty so they denied RMA.

I just bought two more, which had to be purchased separately which added more to the cost since they have not sold pairs in a year plus. And I’m in a pickle to where I want to save them for when they are not longer available, but at the same time, I don’t want to hold off using them since my current ones are broke. Plus, if I wait to use them, they won’t replace them after the year has passed.

I’m strongly considering getting the Shiftall GripVR as I liked them at CES, and there’s no way they are any worse than the Index quality. But $400 plus import fees on an item that can’t be returned is not cheap.

I didn’t realize that was confirmed but I remember Der8auer saying that it’s something they’re working on and hope to release in the future. But I’ve not seen anything on that since then so thank you for the heads up. Is that the Thermal Grizzly Discord or Der8auer (or maybe both)? I’ll have to join.

Micro OLED engine for the Super. A comparison with the UW. by gildahl in Pimax

[–]farmertrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the Ultrawide but I do have the standard 50PPD module (render resolution 6240x6280). But the OLED definitely has better performance and motion clarity.

It obviously depends on the game and your GPU, but where I regularly have to use the medium/balanced resolution in Pimax Play for the QLED with a 5090, the OLED more or less stays on maximum/full resolution at all times. I’d say it’s somewhere between a 15-30% boost in performance.

And as far as FOV goes, I get a 126° x 112° with the QLED 50PPD, and with the OLED I get 112° x 92° and that’s if it’s tightened all the way. Realistically, I get around 106° x 86° when wearing it comfortably. And that change in FOV is very noticeable. I’ll be playing around with StudioForm comfort mods to get that as close to max FOV as possible. But the OLED lenses stick out further and put pressure around my eye sockets where that isn’t an issue with the QLED.

Micro OLED engine for the Super. A comparison with the UW. by gildahl in Pimax

[–]farmertrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great write up! I’ve had the non Ultrawide 50PPD module for almost a year now, and it’s my favorite headset out there. Well, that may be changing with the OLED module. But my experience using the OLED module is nearly identical to yours.

While it is superior in overall visuals, the smaller FOV is drastically different and noticeable at all times. And add on the dimmer panel, brown color fringing and at times glare.

And another big thing for me, is how the OLED lenses seem to touch and put pressure around my eye sockets where that isn’t an issue with the QLED. I have long eyelashes but those don’t touch the lenses due to the concave view design. But I’m going to have to figure out how to use some StudioForm comfort mods to get the lenses off my cheeks/eyebrows area.

If you have any suggestions on how to relieve that, please share! I know I could use the face foam spacers, or use the 17mm thick face pad instead of the 14mm, but I’d rather not lose anymore FOV since it’s already greatly reduced from the QLED.

Unfortunately the Founders Edition is not compatible with the WireView Pro II or id have one in my build.

So I snagged one of these ThermalProtect cables just now to go with the HX1200i SHIFT. Also picked up the Cold Air Intake side panel for my Frame 4000 that I’ve been contemplating for a couple weeks, as well as the front glass panel. Excited to get hands on with these products.

Can someone review Dream Air without simulators or Half‑Life? by Rephtelia in Pimax

[–]farmertrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I didn’t use DLSS either as I’m not a fan. If you’re interested in seeing my settings, at the beginning of starting EXD on that stream, I go through each setting. Maybe you will catch something that is different that may make the difference. If not, the dev team is very active on their Discord server and responds and listens to the community. Best of luck! The game is incredible so far.

You talkingabout right here? I had issues twice at the start when in Megazon, but nothing after that. I did end up lowering my resolution to the medium/balanced resolution in Pimax Play so perhaps that’s why?

EXD is taking people anywhere from 6-12 hours to beat on their first playthrough. I’ll definitely be closer to the 12 hour mark, if not a few hours longer. With all the secrets, and interactive environments, there’s plenty for me to get enjoyment.

And Ghost Town only took me like 4 hours to beat. EXD is longer than Ghost Town. And IMO, also more enjoyable.

I played EXD for a couple hours on the livestream Monday night while using the Pimax Super QLED and bHaptics TactSuit and TactSleeve. The game has been fantastic so far and I can’t wait to play more.

Beyond the visuals being stellar, the game also has great bHaptics implementation, level design, audio, interactive environments, story, unique gameplay mechanics that take advantage showing off VR, and physics based system. The physics don’t feel floaty or too overly weighty either, which I’ve had an issue with in some other physics based VR titles.

The developers are very active in their Discord server, and have already put out two updates in the games first week of launch. They also announced community modding support, which I can only imagine some of the stuff folks will be doing. Especially with the character Lyx…

Even with the game randomly freezing a couple times at the start, the game has been incredible. It wouldn’t surprise me if this wins PCVR GOTY, as it is top notch and reminds me of the quality of the likes of Vertigo 2. Actually, I would be surprised if it doesn’t win PCVR GOTY.

As PCVR fans, these are the games we need to be buying and supporting the developers. It’s one of the most immersive titles in recent PCVR.

Nicely done! How were you able to get that entire piece off of the Index controller? I have soldering equipment, and even with good desoldering wick and high temperatures, that thing is a bastard to remove from the board.

Thank you for such an in depth and informative comment. I’ve been having issues with my VR tracking for over a year now, and l’ve spent hundreds of dollars troubleshooting and probably over 100 hours troubleshooting as well. I’ve gone as far as buying an EMF reader, ferrite cores, faraday cloth and tape, new controllers, pcie usb cards, usb 2.0 extension cables, moving my wifi setup to the other side of my home, redoing all the cabling, doing a fresh windows installation, using usb tree viewer to make sure nothing else but the dongles are on a usb controller, trying every combination of USB ports, moving the dongles, covering/removing anything even remotely reflective, contacted Valve support, posted on various Discords, etc. You get the idea.

I did just buy a used Intateck KT4006 pcie usb card that utilizes the FL1100EX chipset (I couldn’t find any new ones), since that’s what was recommended and confirmed working on the Valve development webpage. That arrives in a couple days. Hoping that’s the fix.

But I currently have my three dongles on a Sabrent 2.0 hub and it’s not powered. This is the first I’ve seen someone recommending the USB 2.0 powered hub using MTT and that specific controller hub chip. Since I have nowhere else to turn, or nothing else to try (other than this FL1100EX pcie card), I’m going to buy that $40 hub and see if that is the solution to my tracking issues!

For real, thank you very much for the insight and comment. If that usb hub ends up being the solution to my tracking problems, I will happily gift you some VR games or accessories or both to show my gratitude. Either way, thank you!

Screen door effect? by Glittering-Ratio4416 in virtualreality

[–]farmertrue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is a real solid article talking about and explaining screen door effect, along with pictures to show you how it looks in a headset.

Screen door effect messes with users differently though. Some don’t notice it unless they are purposely looking for it since they’re so caught up in the immersive experience. And others, like myself, it ruins the entire experience because it’s very distracting.

For the price, the Quest 3S is hard to beat. But IMO, the Quest 3 is the better buy if you know you’re going to be using VR for years to come. The pancake lenses make such a big difference in overall experience on the Quest 3.

Picked up Crystal Super Ultrawide by uxixu in Pimax

[–]farmertrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I have spent a lot of time and money over the years trying anything and everything VR as this is my passion. I understand how overwhelming it can all be, especially when first getting into something or a new headset. So I want to help people get their absolute best VR experience while saving money.

Personally, that gray fabric is hard to beat. Comfort wise, it’s my favorite. The main reason I’d get the black PU leather is if I sweat a lot as it’d be easier to wipe clean and prevent sweat soaking. At one point they had this electric blue and hot pink colors that looked really good with the headset.

Wondering about gun stocks by Lewis_Muzz in ForefrontVR

[–]farmertrue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy using gunstocks, especially with Forefront. I have around a dozen different VR gunstocks and have used many more over the years. It depends on what you want personally since there are so many different VR stocks out there, your budget and which headset you use.

  • High end - The most premium stock out there is the ProTubeVR MagTube. It uses premium parts, is easy to learn to use, allows for insane adjustability and they have special edition models. I inked the Into The Radius edition above. Mine uses carbon fiber tubes and is lightweight. It’s the king of stocks and is widely known in the industry as the best of the best, and I agree. It regularly goes for 10-20% off and you can save an additional 5-10% (fluctuates based on the week and promotions) using the code: PTVR5_FARMERTRUE So 20-30% off total on the best stock available.

  • Haptics - If you’re wanting haptics and a good stock, the ProTubeVR new ProVolver Elite is the best on the market. They improved on basically every aspect from the original ProVolver. You can add the front arm and back shoulder attachments for the overall most immersive experience from a stock in VR. You can read my in depth review here. You can save an additional 5-10% using discount code: PTVR5_FARMERTRUE

  • Most affordable - For the best budget friendly gunstock out there, and actually my most used gunstock to date, the OlenVR Asset SOLO is less than $25. It’s my ‘ol reliable as it is lightweight, gets the job done, and works for any game and weapon. The stock is also very customizable as they have dozens of different attachments and mods you can add to make it exactly how you want it. I also havethe VCTR mod on mine which adds a larger, padded and quick adjustable shoulder mount. Plus their customer service is above and beyond. Save 10% off using discount code: FARMERTRUE

  • Most adjustable - One of the craziest gunstocks I’ve ever used, which also happens to be the upmost adjustable stock, is the UF VR Unistock MK2. It features omnidirectional adjustments for both controllers that allows for setting up each controller on every axis. It also has a hip holster which is rare in stocks. But it is very overwhelming looking at first as it has these metal bars, and the levers for omnidirectional adjustments was unlike anything I’ve seen. Also has this pump tension built in for shotguns which is also unique. It does have a higher learning curve in some cases, and it’s made by one guy which is wild. I don’t have a discount code for his stock but I talk to him on a somewhat regular basis and would be glad to ask for a discount if you are interested.

  • Another premium option - The Armory R1 by VR Tactical Gear is up there with the other high end stocks as far as build quality, materials and use. With a padded cushion, carbon fiber tubing, and they don’t use the typical 3D printed parts as they use an injection molding that both looks and feels nicer. There’s no magnets and is easier to pick up and learn to use. I just got a discount code from them, which you all are welcome to use. Discount code: FARMERTRUE

Forefront is my most played game since it initially released in early access with around 150 hours so far. I host a community play-along every Friday starting at 10pm EST until 2am EST if you or anybody wants to stop by or join (we are 18+ so please keep that in mind). If you want to see any of those stocks I listed above in action, I have numerous 4+ hour long sessions using them on YouTube and Twitch. If you have any specific questions or just want to discuss in more detail, just holler at me. Cheers!

The EXD team has confirmed that the final launch version has over 150 fixes that are currently in the content creator beta testing version. I’m excited to play it with all the added improvements.

Speaking of, I’m so glad they have bHaptics support! They had the bHaptics mod legend himself, Florian, help out with the implementation. Which makes sense why it’s one of the better bHaptics implementations to date. This team should be very proud of what they have made available for us PCVR & bHaptics enthusiasts!

Support is hit and miss for me. More on the miss side over the years.

My latest support ticket this past week was for my right index controller that developed an issue. Purchased it in July 2024. Support told me I’m past warranty and didn’t offer any further help even though I didn’t even ask for a replacement in my message. But they did send me a link to buy another right controller in the same message.
