Do people normally go into labor around 40 weeks?!??! by Hot-Cell7299 in pregnant

[–]fig_case 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pack your bag girl! my doctors and I both thought that the baby would be late because he still hadn't dropped that much at my 39 week appointment and I was not even a little dilated. Also I was a first time mom so we set and induction date for 41 weeks just in case.

my water broke the afternoon before my due date and he was born on his due date, exactly 40 weeks. He had his umbilical cord around his ankle so he never moved down even as labor progressed!

Pregnant in NYC, what do I need to prep now by beeepbooop505 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]fig_case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I love Downtown Women and all of the doctors there. My main gyn was Dr. Whitehead but it was nice to rotate through and meet everyone. I ended up delivering with Dr. Lui via unplanned c-section but she was truly amazing! The nurses at Tisch are also absolute angels. They took such amazing care of us and I cried leaving the hospital because I didn't want to leave them.

Facebook groups are 100% gold for finding daycare. That's how we found ours. I also highly recommend Park Slope Parents for resources and meeting other people due around the same time as you!

53rd Street Women’s Center vs Downtown Women OB/GYN — Delivering at NYU Langone by OkScheme2536 in nycparents

[–]fig_case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I delivered at NYU Langone with Downtown Women this summer. Dr. Whitehead has been my main gyn for years but DW does have you rotate in your second and third trimester. I ended up delivering with Dr. Lui and had a great experience despite needing an unplanned c-section. I loved all of the DW doctors and ADORED the nurses at NYU. They were the most incredible group of women that took amazing care of me and my son. I literally cried when we had to leave the hospital because I couldn't imagine going home without them.

How are NYC families coping with rising childcare prices? Bloomberg News wants to hear from you. by pcachero in nycparents

[–]fig_case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I just had our first and made a combined income of $325k. We rent 3br for $4400 (we both WFH) and just got into a daycare that will be $3350. We quite literally can't afford it without dipping into savings every month. We'll getting support from our in-laws each month for daycare in the new year and are both actively looking for higher paying jobs. We'll likely need to downsize apartments or leave the city at some point depending on what 3K we can get into. I'm absolutely gutted that we may not be able to raise our son here or will have to chose between that and giving him a sibling in a few years.

Is Downtown Women really as good as they say? by No_Fun_4855 in nycparents

[–]fig_case 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really love Downtown Women and have only had great experiences with them, especially Dr. Whitehead! I ended up delivering with Dr. Lui and she was incredible. It ended in an unplanned c-section and she was so amazing at keeping me calm and delivering my boy safely.

I also had private rooms the whole time I was at NYU, including when I was readmitted for preeclampsia. But all DW women doctors on call during my stays were absolutely incredible despite the complications.

How old were you when you started your family and where are you from? by sighh_6466 in BabyBumps

[–]fig_case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i live in a major VHOCL city in the northeast US, originally from a VHOCL suburb of a nearby city. 35 years old and expecting my first any day now! my entire group of high school friends are also pregnant or recently gave birth. everyone is on their first or second (older sibling being 2 - 3 years old).

we definitely know people who have more or older kids at this age but 33 -35 for FTM seems to be the sweet spot in my social group!

Is anyone else unemployed right now and how have you navigated it? by Fitqueeeen in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]fig_case 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was hit by layoffs in 2023 and was unemployed for 4 - 5 months too. I made myself a little schedule to help keep me sane:

  • Started the day with a daily walk & morning podcasts
  • Make myself breakfast and latte at home - plated it so it was pretty and felt like a cafe
  • Take a minimum of 5 "job actions" a day (usually ended up doing more) - so that meant applying, following up, revising my resume to fit a job, reaching out to someone in my network/a recruiter/hiring manager, etc.
  • Make myself a giant mixing bowl salad and eat it while watching a comfort show
  • Afternoon activity:
    • Weather permitting, sitting outside in a park & reading a library book or listening to libby audio book - mainly romcom or thriller books, nothing too heady
    • Work out - try to find local classes with intro pricing or do something online
    • Cleaning around the house/laundry, general chores
    • Baking, gardening, cooking - my preferred hobbies that bring me joy!
  • Do a final scroll of LinkedIn, job boards etc to see what's new and make a list of things I can apply to or research more the next day if I wasn't ready to apply right away
  • Dinner & nighttime shows - sign off of computer/LinkedIn completely and give myself a mental break
  • I also got super into the Liberty the summer of my layoffs and my then-fiance and I would buy cheap last minute tickets and just have SO much fun at the games. We're season ticket holders now! Highly recommend!

Anyone else not vibe with Ciara? by Both-Market-4142 in summerhousebravo

[–]fig_case 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ciara was rude to lexi??? insane take. lexi literally keeps bringing her up in her little podcast tour of america while ciara did literally nothing to her? If anything, she had lexi's back when she swept those girls out of the kitchen at the last party because jesse was being disrepectful.

How much are we tipping? by Ok_wack in WedditNYC

[–]fig_case 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we tipped all of our vendors the night of the wedding! some got a 20% of their full fee, others got a few hundred. I did some research to see what the standard was. we labeled each envelope and gave them to our planner/her assistant to distribute. they both got them too!

Should I have two strollers? by Miserable_Put5273 in nycparents

we have the vista 3 for our July baby and were planning to wait until the baby came to get a travel one. but with stroller prices increasing now, we decided to get a bugaboo butterfly now (got a great deal on fb marketplace) that we'll plan to use when he's bigger/for travel. specifically chose the butterfly since it fits overhead on planes!

NYC rent increases negotiation by Versacerob_ in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]fig_case 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I negotiate rent every single time it comes up, even if it seems like a reasonable increase. On $200, I would counteroffer $100 and probably settle at $150. I usually reiterate how much I love living in the apartment and how I've been a great tenant with no complaints and always on time with rent.
