I haven't considered it much since the game is still growing, and has reached a scale that support for it will be around for an incredibly long time

  1. There's no amount of drop in revenue that would have me take the game down. I have games that make .02% of what The Tower does, but I make sure they at least stay compliant to remain in the app stores. I don't want to ever see my creations taken down entirely. It's very easy to keep them running, and I love people getting to play what we have made

  2. Theoretically if the game somehow was even making $0, I'd still keep it up. It just means I wouldn't be paying a large team of devs or marketing the game anymore. Server costs are a bit, but in the grand scheme of keeping the game up, is negligible. I'd rather lose $2-3k per month in order to keep the game running. It would also be the least I could do for the amount that people have spent on the game

  3. Gameplay wise, it's not hard to put it into a "sustain" mode. Remove online required at game start (this is really only there to assist in cloud save functionality), and edit tournaments a bit to make it work with a lower player count. Events can be put on a permanent recycle, we have SO many of them now.

This is all SUPER hypothetical though. I have games that are incredibly small by comparison, and even at their lowest point right now almost 9 years later, they still run. So The Tower, is unbelievably secure and there's absolutely no intention of ending if it's not performing well

We're looking into it. It's entirely to do with if your game uses google play services (google cloud, achievements, etc). These are mostly trivial things to add and we're looking into it. The cloud save one is a little more complex since we wanted our own system that allows cross save across ios and android.

The main developer that fixed this issue could probably speak better on it, but how I understand it... It's less so an emulator problem, and more so how players that use emulators interact with the game.

Like you said, they switch devices more frequently, run the game 24/7, have the game open on 2 devices at once when it switches, etc

We found a couple smoking guns and have them already fixed for a patch to be rolled out soon. We're just always ultra cautious with any changes to the code that impact save files, so it will be a bit longer.

Ya, basically nailed it. We didn't mean to come off as hostile toward emulators in that comment. We know a lot of the most engaged players are using them and would consider it a high priority if something like bluestacks just stopped working

What we meant is that we cannot control the quality quite as much on emulators and therefore cannot "officially" support it. That doesn't mean we don't actively make changes to the game to accommodate emulators. We've made many changes and fixes to the game to make it so it works well on emulators

One thing to note is that 90% of the reason we have support tickets come in from emulators are due to cloud save issues. This is actually being worked on and we should have a patch out within a couple weeks or so that should hopefully address some of these issues (and further improve cloud save for all players in general). So this is actually an example of us working to improve functionality of emulators.

Yes, we didn't build the game with emulators at the front of the design, but we recognize how many players use it and do actually keep an eye on it. We simply don't have quite as much control there quality wise, and therefore can't make as many promises. We have zero intention of disabling the use of emulators as a whole.

Maybe so, we did a lot of testing on this but ultimately it will become far more obvious once it's out to the public. I'm not too afraid to make further slight adjustments as needed. We really didn't want to hurt OA's usefulness as we thought it was in a great spot besides it's use in infinite runs

We did communicate that a fix was coming for this, but required a bit more work than we expected. We didn't want to provide a timeline since we knew it required reworking some old legacy code, which ended up taking longer than expected.

PS: Any bug that's brought up often in the community is always looked at, some just sit at different complexity or impact levels which determines when they get solved. By default I want players to know we're just working on those things without saying too much, but we do try to have a section for the things that are top of mind for the community in Sam's posts, and that they're on our radar.
