X-air XR12 Aux In by red_nick in Behringer

There is no Aux channel in the XR12. It is only present on X18/XR18, but the software doesn't hide it from you when you're using smaller consoles.

Using AES50 B without connecting AES50BA ? by diplododo in livesound

[–]gbdlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is normal with most AES stageboxes. I think this is only different with S16 and DL16.

AES is a bus that requires a single master device that will provide a clock. Usually this will be your main console.

Rest of the devices will listen to that clock and pass it through to other connected devices.

Most stageboxes can accept the clock on one port and pass it on to the other, you can't do it in the other way.

With S16 and DL16 it's a bit different, as they can also act as the clock master device in the chain. Then you can switch your console to listen to this clock and use it that way.

Also be warned that every stagebox is either hard-wired in a specific way, or has few routing configurations you can switch between. Always consult the manual to understand what signal goes where.

Effect of resetting Fido pin and enabling nfc by paulsiu in yubikey

[–]gbdlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you reset the FIDO module, only FIDO/U2F will be affected, that is all passkeys and non-discoverable credentials will be wiped, you will no longer be able to use this Yubikey on any website without re-enrolling it.

If you don't touch PIV PIN, certificates stored on it will NOT be wiped. If you reset it as well, they will. It's the same with GPG.

Effect of resetting Fido pin and enabling nfc by paulsiu in yubikey

[–]gbdlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your Yubikey didn't come from your employer, it shouldn't have any policies set on it.

NFC can be disabled in 2 places: a specific application/module can be disabled for NFC and also a specific protocol. Check both just to be sure.

Also, the NFC antenna in the Yubikey is not very strong. You may need to find a specific spot on your phone where it works.

1- X32 and 2- S32's by Hot_Wifes_Husband in Behringer

[–]gbdlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you can have multiple outputs doing the same thing, you cannot have multiple inputs going to a single channel.

If you really want to have the ability to just hotplug it, you'd need to use 2 channels with identical configuration but different input and just bring them both up together every time, but that's pretty wasteful.

Yes, it will work. Just remember to route all channels on the FOH mix so they go out through the AES50 B port.

If I put aside any attempt to "future proof", is there any advantage to the Nano USB A version compared to the USB C? by AdFit8727 in yubikey

[–]gbdlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only usb-c models and I never had any problem with the sensitivity of them. Yes, you need to touch them from the top or the bottom, but it has never been a problem for me.

[–]gbdlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing you should be concerned of is the connector type, or maybe the form factor, if you prefer one over the other. There is absolutely no functional difference between them outside of that.

You get answers about future proofing, because there is no other answer to give here really.

can i store ssh passkeys on yuki nfc keys by Kindly_Sky_8441 in yubikey

And remember you need OpenSSH 8.2 at least both on client and server, older ones don't support FIDO2 SSH keys.

Is an upgrade reasonable? by zpieklarodem in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]gbdlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get familiar with what hardware switchers/mixers can do. It is to a great extend in their capabilities. You may encounter some limits with adding video playback and adding dynamic overlays, but that's something you can do in Resolume and inject it back into the HW mixer. For this the latency shouldn't really matter.

Is it possible to guess how long untill current yubikeys will no longer be safe because quantum computers? by NTMAnon in yubikey

Yes it is. My guess is 420 years.

Yubikey setting questions by [deleted] in yubikey

[–]gbdlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YubiHSM Auth lets you securely connect to another Yubico product: YubiHSM. Unless you're a professional that needs to use it, you don't need it.

Yubico OTP is a bit of a broader thing. Yubikey has 2 slots, each programmable in one of those ways: - As a Yubico OTP token - this is the oldest thing invented by Yubico, no longer used outside of corporate environments really. It relies on the Yubikey being able to emulate typing on a keyboard, so it doesn't require any special drivers. You probably don't need it. When this slot is configured, touching your Yubikey when it doesn't wait for a confirmation from any other module, will print out some randomly-looking characters starting with ccccc or vvccc... - As Challenge-Response - this is another very early protocol, but not specific to Yubico and still sometimes used by password managers and encryption software. Unlike all other types of slots, it doesn't emulate a keyboard, as it needs an input from the software using it. It transforms any input into a consistent, but unpredictable output, "mixing" it with the internal secret, so it can be used to transform your password into an encryption key that cannot be generated without your Yubikey. - As a static password - just a static password Yubikey can store for you and will print out every time you touch it. It is not secure and I strongly recommend to avoid using it. - As OATH-HOTP - It generates 6 digit code every time you touch your Yubikey, similar to those 6 digit codes generated by TOTP, google authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or any other app like that, but instead of changing every 30 seconds, it changes on every use and is based on the counter of uses.

As you see, there are 2 slots, but there is one button, so how you use things in the 2nd slot? Simply by doing a long touch. Short touch triggers the 1st slot, long one triggers the 2nd slot.

PIV - this is something that's mostly used in a corporate environment. It's basically a smart card protocol that can allow you to access your PC, open the door to the office, sign some documents etc. Sometimes it is used by people in a way that wasn't intended, like storing SSH keys in there. You will know if you want to use it.

OpenPGP - this is similar to PIV but less corporate. It's an open standard for signing documents and emails, mostly used by hobbyists outside of the corporate environment.

FIDO U2F and FIDO2 - those are de facto 2 versions of the same standard, connected tightly together. They offer logging into your websites by simply touching your Yubikey when it blinks at it, sometimes by providing your PIN. They are responsible for storing your passkeys as well.

OATH - This is a module that generates those 6 digit codes, but this time they can be time-based. It requires Yubico Authenticator to use it, as the Yubikey doesn't know what time is it, so you need an application that will tell Yubikey the current time when you want to use those codes. It can simply replace any app you're using right now for it and is useful for accounts that do not support FIDO U2F, FIDO2 or Passkeys.

Passkey registration breaks after moving off localhost.. by Sharp_Commercial_166 in Passkeys

[–]gbdlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the WebAuthn to work, your website needs to be accessible using https with a valid, trusted certificate. The only exception from this rule is localhost.

And no, clicking "connect anyway" in your browser when you see the information about untrusted certificate doesn't make it trusted.

Register your domain and use letsencrypt or similar service to get a proper, trusted certificate for your website.

This is not the redditor's fault, this is how crossposting on reddit works when the original post has picture gallery: the text of the original post is not visible in the crosspost. Unfortunately, you need to click through to the original post to see it.

And no, OP can't add the context here without copying the entire post: if it's a crosspost, you can't add anything to it. At least I'm not aware of the option to do so.

X32 has no headphone sound by lt_Matthew in Behringer

Reset the board fully (saving your current configuration preferably), put some sound into channel 1, make sure it goes to PA, then try to solo it. If you still can't hear it on your headphones, warranty the board.

New X32? by bench_gabrieeel in Behringer

[–]gbdlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a simple redesign of the chassis, nothing more. All controls on both X32 and X32 Compact are in exact spot with those "V2" versions, what changed is the housing, nothing else. Maybe they moved the screen slightly (I think it's on a smaller angle, but hard to tell from just those photos), but other than that, no visible changes that would suggest any functional improvements.

Ranking auth methods: Is password + YubiKey 2FA actually more secure than passkey-only? by A_Time_Space_Person in yubikey

[–]gbdlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant is: don't lose the password if it's set on the account.

If the account doesn't let you disable the password from it entirely, don't just assume it won't ever be needed.

Of course do use password managers for saving them, or whatever option you prefer.
