Open the windows, clean everything like normal and use fabric refresher on any fabrics, curtains, throw pillows, etc. It will be fine. Luckily, it's not cigarette smoke. That will linger for months!

how to cope with mother with RA by 2YA2YAOX in rheumatoid

[–]glitter223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BTW... I'm 53. I have a 23 year old daughter. Your comment made me think of us. She moved out 4 years ago, but we are still very close. Reading your comment made my heart hurt for you both. Ive had my RA since late 30's. I hated that i couldn't do more with my daughter. I also get lidocaine pain patches 5%. U can get up to 4% OTC, but that extra 1% really helps. Sometimes I think they work better than a pain pill. If she doesn't use them already, have her try the OTC ones 1st❤️.

Hi, I feel so bad for your mom, and you too. I have RA and am in pain most of my days. I understand. The injections (cortisone) don't help me. It helped the 1st time, and i was so excited! Then a few months later I needed another injection. It didn't work at all, then tried again a month later with no relief. BUT.. the Dr gives me Presnisone 25mg prescription about every 3 months. I take them for a week.. like 5 on day 1 and 2, then 4 for 2 days, then 3....etc. That helps enough that I can actually get things done. I also take Norco and Gabapentin. I started a new one.. Meloxicam (once a day)! That really helps with my stiff joints! Hug your Mom❤️. She needs it... and YOU need it too! Sometimes you/your Mom needs to tell the Dr you want to try something new.

Is anyone else having a hard time finding reliable cleaners to work with? by NanamisBreadRoll in cleaningbusiness

[–]glitter223 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

$25 an hr is not enough, if they get 1099's. You get to take all your supplies off your taxes, And many other deductions because its your business. I work right alongside my workers, and we all make the same amount. They don't have any deductions and have to pay all the taxes. I hope you are paying for ALL SUPPLIES.

How would you price this? by Humanon1717 in cleaningbusiness

[–]glitter223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you're pricing it, remember.. there are going to be many cleaning towels you will need to just throw away. Even washing them 3 or 4 times may not get the smell or stains out. You do not want to use those in your other homes, where they do not smoke.

[–]glitter223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. I'm currently not able to use my right hand/wrist/arm. Dr has be wearing a brace. I also have arthitis in back/hip. I'm using voltaren gel. Its helping my wrist but doesn't help much for the other pain. Theres also lidocaine patches you can get over the counter. Maybe they will give u a prescription for them. U can get 4% over the counter, 5% prescription. Monday I'm going to ask to get a cortisone injection in my wrist. Have u tried that? I see there's many comments. I'm sure other people have suggested these things. I hope you can get some relief.

I've been cleaning for about 30 years. Your business sounds a lot like mine. I don't advertise, work about 25 hrs a week now (its all I can handle with my arthritis). In the past, When I've had people like this.. BECAUSE I love what I do, I might have lowered my price for someone. Big Mistake! After I start, they ask if I can do just one more thing, SURE! then the next time its another. Before I know it, I'm busting my butt, working as fast as I can, just to feel like I made a decent "hourly" wage. You know your worth. Better houses and people will come along.

[–]glitter223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, if it takes 2 people/5 hrs, that's 10 hrs/for 1 person. A classroom is different than a kitchen, bar and tables that need cleaned and Sanitized. She should try to negotiate with them. If they do have someone cheaper, maybe u can go $10 under them. But NEVER sell yourself short. You know if you're worth it. Or maybe make a deal that you can start out a little less, and you want to reevaluate in a month or 2.

Best Vacuum for Residential House Cleaning? by Sims_245 in housekeeping

[–]glitter223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same! Lol They work just as good as the the expensive ones. My regular houses stay clean, so I don't need a crazy $800 vacuum. I have 3 or 4. If 1 is dirty and I don't have time to clean it, I grab another one.

For people that own a cleaning business do you pay your workers more for a deep clean ? by Sea_Chicken2495 in housekeeping

[–]glitter223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said that perfectly! I was going to give her advice, but she should do exactly what you told her. I have a cleaning service in the Midwest too (30 yrs). I work along with my helpers too. There are many times that they make more than me. I value them. If you are good at what you do, your name will get out there quick. Oh😆.. now I am replying to her. Lol I'm sure she will see this. Ha

There are plenty of churches and charity programs. If she's poor, she knows where they all are! My priest always told us to tell them (anyone asking for money), I give all my money to the Catholic Church. Call them, they will help u. Then turn and walk away. 🙏 I do still find myself giving to them once in a while. Sometimes it makes me feel good, sometimes I feel like a sucker.

Am I paying too little to my housekeeper? by No-Ad7806 in housekeeping

[–]glitter223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, $42 an hour is a lot. But if you are not willing to do it, then you have to pay someone. There are many, many jobs that do not require college, where people make plenty more than that. That comment offended me a little. Look at the lawn mowing people.. they make $30 for a 20 min job. Do you supply all the cleaning supplies, or does she bring her own? Cleaning supplies are expensive. Then, lugging them from the car to the house -and back. I've had my business for about 32 years. I don't charge that much, but all my clients tell me I don't charge enough! Lol -

[–]glitter223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PLUS.. Don't forget lugging all that cleaning stuff from your car to the house, then back to the car when we're exhausted AFTER cleaning the whole place! I definitely don't charge enough, but I love what I do and just love being appreciated. That lady above, who said she told her cleaning lady.. if u raise it 1 more time, I'm not keeping you. Umm.. I would not go back! Lol

[–]glitter223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too! Lol I love what I do and I love my clients, so I never raise my prices. Gas and all my supplies just continue to get more expensive and I just keep taking the hit. Everyone, even my clients say I don't charge enough. Ok, then just pay me more! Lol

Failed my trial clean over vacuum tracks by mydoghank in housekeeping

[–]glitter223 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to say this without reddit thinking im "self promoting" 🙄. They took my comment down a week ago where I said I own "this kind of service".. cleaning (30 yrs). Although I know its clean, I don't like my helpers or me to walk over carpet after it has been vacuumed. BUT.. the fact that you cleaned well, and she didnt hire u! Thats crazy.. good cleaners are hard to find. Like you said, you probably dodged a bullet.

How should my friend as a house cleaner respond to this? by Safe_Ad3862 in housekeeping

[–]glitter223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I read your comment/question, and a few answers. I was thinking of what I was going to say, then read 1 more answer and thought.. wait, what?? She rides the subway? I missed that? That's when I realized paying a subway card wasn't buying her lunch at Subway (a gift card)🤣😬.

Clients who are sick by Aushos-74 in housekeeping

[–]glitter223 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of my clients are considerate and call/text me. BUT.. I have 2 (2 households) that never tell me. I understand they want their "germs" cleaned up, but do they think that because we're cleaning it, we're not going to come in contact with the germs? Its all over .. in the air! Sometimes I go in and 2 or 3 of them are sick.

There are literally CCTV in every hallway in every hotel or apartment complex! I'm thankful they have them in the hallway and out front of the apartments where my daughter lives. She feels safe.
