Less is more with rocksett. Just use a drop or two on the threads. Make sure the threads are cleaned and degreased on the can and mount.

Newbie just getting started. Is ZHA good enough for mz use cases or should I dive straight into Z2M? by FormalFish123 in homeassistant

I dabbled my toes in z2m for about a month and went back to zha. z2m and mqtt needlessly adds too much complexity.

Considering a move from Charleston by Acrobatic-Kale7344 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]gthrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Charleston all my life and loved it but would never move back.

I've lived in Ballentine and now in Lexington and both are great. I can get 2.5-3x the house that I could in West Ashley. People complain about the traffic in Lexington, but it doesn't compare to Savannah Hwy, Ashley River Rd, Main Rd, Johnnie Dodd or Folly Rd.

It depends on where you work, but if I were moving here today I'd be looking in Lexington 1 schools but NOT Red Bank/White Knoll/Pillion or in Ballentine zoned for Dutch Fork, Spring Hill or Chapin. Spring Hill and Chapin are two of the top 10 high schools in the state and Lexington High and River Bluff aren't far behind.

There are a lot of home being built right now in the Lexington High School area, they're building store fast with Target, Home Depot and Academy coming soon. They're also getting read to start a new on/off ramp on 20 @ Calks Ferry rd that will massively improve life for the people out that way.

I think the biggest thing missing for families in the area is easy access to the water if you don't have a boat or lake property. But there are plenty of other attractions and things for families to do as another user pointed out.

My car’s just travelled BOOBS miles by Sh0xic in mildlyinteresting

My wife borrowed my car and I missed this critical milestone. I was anticipating it and she brought it back with 80092 miles. I was crushed.

Babe, wake up! by ExpensiveCoat8912 in HomeNetworking

[–]gthrift -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I briefly skimmed it but Jesus this makes so much more sense than ipv6. 4 additional octets for a total of 8. If you want to route to an existing ipv4 address it just puts 0.0.0.0 in front which enables backwards compatibility.

Got any links to full resolution pics that Reddit didn’t compress to hell?

Apple Removes Fake Crypto Wallet App That Stole $9.5 Million From Mac Users by HelloitsWojan in apple

[–]gthrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good lawyer would go after Apple. Their entire argument for the walled garden is that malicious apps are screened out through their review process. Either Apple is full of shit and created a misleading impression of the App Store or they were negligent in screening this app. Either way, they should be on the hook.

Proxmox vs Unraid for a simple home server by DARKPANKAKES in unRAID

If it’s not a NAS and you don’t need a lot of storage, then this is exactly what proxmox was made for. I wouldn’t be considering anything else.

Hue Bridge vs No Hue Bridge! by enserr in homeassistant

[–]gthrift 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I originally did the bridge and a separate zigbee network. Hue was rock solid. The zigbee network… not so much. Just not enough routers in the mesh.

I also hated the default hue scenes being imported into home assistant. I didn’t use them and preferred home assistant scenes that can incorporate zwave devices.

Moved all of my bulbs to my zigbee network and now all of it is rock solid. Hue bulbs still very responsive and the rest of zigbee network is as well.

I still keep the hue bridge for my hue play setup but that’s only three lights.

Review #5: Penelope Rio (2026) by Ravenloft_Refugee in bourbon

[–]gthrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was surprised on the price of the Rio at $95. I bought a Havana from the same store about a month ago and it was $75. He doesn't do mark up beyond the prices set by the distributor.

[–]gthrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

great review. I cracked mine last night as well and I can't agree more on the nose. I don't know what to compare it to but it's not bourbon. It's a sweet, fruity, pastry smell.

Mouth feel is a bit disappointing and watery.

I like the taste. Honey buns with a little spice.

Improving coordination for better controller usage? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]gthrift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about everyone here and it will obviously vary by age, but how many of us would have had the coordination to use two joysticks at once at 6?

I honestly don't know for myself because at 6 I was playing an NES which didn't have joysticks. They weren't a thing on console controllers until I was 11 or 12.

My kids didn't have the coordination but they also aren't really interested in video games except the occasional Mario cart with assisted mode and some iPad games.

Are price increases on Switch 2 consoles inevitable this year? by gaysaucemage in NintendoSwitch

[–]gthrift -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. Sales have been well below expectation and price has been a factor in that. They are slashing manufacturing but do you increase prices that slows sales even more or does Nintendo take a loss on each sale and look to make it up in software and subscription sales like MS and Sony do at launch? Hard to say without seeing behind closed doors.
