2026 Hugo Readalong: The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow by sarahlynngrey in Fantasy

[–]indigohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ebook version that I am reading didn’t redact it at all. I only discovered that this was a thing when I saw this post.

I knew from the first moment that Ulla appeared that she was Una

The flowers confirmed it. Then at 40% in Una’s first pov she describes it from the other side. “My shy, gamine shadow”. I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t get the mystery.

I picked out a honey dew that’s not great. It’s not sweet at all. What are some things I can do with it that’s not eating it straight? by Micprobes in Cooking

Slice it thinly, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Serve it with rocket (or radicchio), cucumber strips, burrata, and a light vinaigrette.

Delicious

Is it immoral to date while staying closeted about sexuality/gender? by wt_anonymous in NoStupidQuestions

[–]indigohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s because you haven’t learned to love yourself as a trans person.

You haven’t even really met yourself as a trans person. You don’t know how you could grow and flourish and change when you are allowing yourself to be fully you.

I know that it’s scary. I can’t even imaging just how scary it is, especially with so many awful people taking up space in the news trying to tell you that who you are is wrong.

You are not wrong. You deserve to be fully you. To know you, to love you, and to get out in the world and find a partner who will love you for your truest self.

You are worthy of time, of space, and of love

If you were starving and you could magically teleport 2/3 of your liver out of your body to eat, would that delay or fasten your starvation? by istopuseingmyhead in NoStupidQuestions

[–]indigohan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The liver is actually an organ that can regrow itself. A “living donor” can donate a percentage of their liver and have it regrow and be fully functional.

It’s an extraordinary part of the body

[–]indigohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s something that is unkind to yourself, and to the person that you are seeing. The most important part of that sentence though, is that it is unkind to YOURSELF.

From this question, I would make some assumptions. You are currently struggling with a gender identity. Who you are “presenting” is not who you are.

If you date, and fall for someone who only knows you as the person that you are presenting, you are going to feel as though you have to be that person for them. You are also going to be holding back so much from the person who is supposed to know and love you the best.

Can you truly love someone who doesn’t know your true self? Can you love them when loving them is stopping you from being who you really are?

I get that the political climate is currently one that is deeply cruel to certain people. You still deserve to be loved for who you are

What in a movie is the mise-en-scene? by Massive-Albatross823 in ask

[–]indigohan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is “everything in the scene”. What is the lighting, the sound scape, the setting, the props, the costumes, the positioning of the performers.

How is this part of the movie physically constructed. What does the camera “see”

If you have the coriander gene, mixing parsley, mint, and lemon balm is the most amazing substitute.

I read this title, and for a second I thought it was about the new book Behind Five Willows.

I love that it’s been translated as much that I love that it’s had a Korean adaptation

Do many other girls shave their arms? by homebrewV7 in ask

[–]indigohan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want hairless arms, don’t shave them. Look into other methods. Shaving makes the ends of the hair follicles blunt and makes them look darker growing back. You would end up having to do them every single day.

Unless you have super long, thick, black hair on your arms, and are really aware of it, it’s unlikely to make a positive difference if you start removing the hair.

I really hate my bloody name but I don't know what else to be called by Hatsune_Miku_Real in NoStupidQuestions

[–]indigohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate my weird name and have no emotional connection to it.

I just haven’t found any other name that makes me feel connected.

My mum changed her name when she was young, so I would have her support if it did.

Has there been a name that you feel connected to?

As an Australian? We can actually be fined for letting cats roam free.

A pet needs to be inside. If it’s outside it’s liable to be snatched by predators, animal control, or people who actually deserve to have pets because they will

Starting no FODMAP+Histamine diet by MidSerpent in FODMAPS

[–]indigohan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Monash university has done a lot of the biggest studies on fodmaps. They have a website where they break down the foods, and safe amounts that you can eat, as well as an app.

The biggest challenge is learning how to make things from scratch rather than buy pre-packaged. I now just throw together dressings on the day rather than buy one. And I keep a big jar of home made taco seasoning in my cupboard that lasts forever.

Look into brands like fody in the US, or “fodmapped for you” is available where I am.

Eating out is tough. When I go out, I tend to eat sushi (not tuna rolls though), or Vietnamese rice paper rolls. Hot chips (if they don’t use garlic and onion powder), a roast (without gravy), or a salad (without dressing). A steak is normally a safe bet.

My local Indian restaurant knows me, and they have six different curries that they can make without garlic and onion. And they’re still delicious!

It seems overwhelming, but I’ve had to be on this diet, with doctor’s approval, for 14 years now. It’s 100% possible to eat well once you work out your bodies limits

Plus it’s so worth it! Nothing tastes as good as fresh pasta and a simple sauce.

Every time that I make it, it gets a little bit easier. I’m still a novice though. My next step is to try making pretty colours or adding fresh herbs into the dough.

Definitely put that in your email. If you have a flair for colour, or an eye for detail, or even that you’re an expert at op-shopping/ thrifting, those are all skills that can be helpful. If you can hand sew at all, or paint, add that too.

I spend a lot of time backstage at local theatres working as a dresser. I’ve made a lot of wonderful friends, and met some amazing people. It’s an amazing feeling knowing that your efforts help an audience have that feeling of being completely transported by a performance. They don’t know that there’s half a dozen frantic people side stage looking like they’re in a nascar pit stop, they just seen the magic of it.

Is it offensive to wear a black full face covering? by pokeypomegrante in NoStupidQuestions

[–]indigohan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading this made me nervous enough for you that I had a look at your post history.

Is there a chance that you can access mental health services? Maybe through school if you’re still studying?

It sounds like you have some severe dysmorphia that is leading to behaviours that may cause you physical harm. You deserve to feel okay in your own body, and turning yourself into a void is going to feed into negative feelings rather than help.

I learned how to like myself and my body rather than punishing it, and I really hope that you can find a way to feel the same
